November 27, 200817 yr Commercial Member Captains-I thought you would all appreciate a quick update on the status of the PMDG MD-11 for FS9.Currently, development of this product is proving to be "difficult" at best. I've mentioned a number of times that FSX is a far better platform for developers- and in our opinion FS9 is both outdated, outmoded and at times convoluted to work with. This has never been more true than as we work the MD-11 backward to the FS9 platform.Currently we are working out a number of issues, almost all of them have to do with the airplane model, the virtual cockpit and the way we handle animations and lighting in the VC.Right now, we're still working on a few test cases to determine if some updated techniques will resolve the outstanding issues we have.We are prepping a version to give to our beta team so that they can begin to validate all of the normal operation of the simulation, but I don't expect us to have all the visual kinks worked out before they get the first version...Based on what we know is still to be fixed- and what we know already works, I think we are currently looking at around mid-December for an approximate release timeline. I want to caution that this could still change if we continue to knock our shins on hurdles that are presented by FS9.On a positive note- I loaded up the 2D panel a few days ago and was absolutely astounded by the frame rates in FS9. :-)To answer a few questions that might pop up on "version control" issues between FSX/FS9:We are fixing a few items that have been discovered since the FSX version 1.0 release. These items are being fixed for both versions, and when the FS9 version is finalized for release we will update the FSX version so that both platforms will have identical iterations of the software. We'll have more information for you when we have more information for you- and not a moment sooner. :-) Robert S. November 28, 200817 yr >Just thought you guys might want to know - we're in beta with>the FS9 version as of tonight... :( Just knowing that the FS9 MD-11 is in beta gives me the joy of realizing that we FS9 users are that much closer to getting our hands on this great aircraft!I better get studying my printed manuals! :(
December 7, 200817 yr Dear Mr RandazzoHow could I express how grateful I am with your last update? I fully respect PMDG policy regarding release dates and I fully understand the reasons for it (already well explained in this forum). But, and this works just for me, you coming up with a likely release date (mid Dec I guess) and few reason why it may happen or may not at that date, is such a relief, such a "Santa feeling"... it is just so relaxing... And don't get me wrong, if by that time or a bit later you come up with the news that the release will have to be postponed perhaps, Feb, Jun... Dec 09! (lol) due such and such (even if that such and such is not very true, I will never know and I wouldn't mind anyway...) I would be as happy as I am right now. And this is the reason why I said that this only works for me as many others in that situation will be complaining... unfortunately. But that is not my case. No matter how many times a release have to be postponed, as long as you tell us a little story that feed up our dreams about the products, anything, I would be delighted. PMDG is the best FS add-on aircraft factory ever, and I guess the time a release takes has made it possible (among many other things of course...). If any of us want a quick release product there many places where to look at; but we'll never find an aircraft like the PMDG's though. That is a fact.Anyway, just in case my English is not good enough to explain myself properly, this is meant to be a very nice comment. I feel very grateful for your update as it makes the wait (no matter how long it will last) a lot less painful. Let me make clear that by no means my comments attempt to argue with PMDG policies or re-open old useless discussions about the subject. Is just to say thank you very much indeed and the reason why.CheersAntonio
December 7, 200817 yr I can't wait for the FS9 version to come out, I just hope it doesn't get further delayed due to problems, but if it does it will be worth the wait.Michael P.
December 8, 200817 yr I can't wait for the FS9 version to come out, I just hope it doesn't get further delayed due to problems, but if it does it will be worth the wait.Im just so glad PMDG is making something for FS9. I have heard how FSX can do so much more as a new platform but FS9 still LOOKS SO GOOD.Carl P.
December 8, 200817 yr I am very glad that PMDG had the forethought to not leave the FS9 people behind as many still do not have a powerful enough computer to run FSX well.Michael p.

I just upgraded my DUAL Core DELL to 3GB of RAM and I still cannot run every slider to the right yet in FS9. I have one more chance to upgrade 1 more GB and change my graphics card up to 512MB. I have two computers in the house. This one is for FS and I have the typical MS Office (just for reading files for FS) I am sorry to tell Microsoft they out did themselves with XP and FS9. No need to go any further.Carl P.
