March 23, 200422 yr Hi All,Just one comment to those who can't wait. PSS and Patch. We all know what has happened with these products and the reputation it has given that software company.May I just suggest that whilst you are waiting for the V2, try the new simavionics throttle, I am sure this will keep most virtual (and RW) pilots interested until the release date. Also don't forget Lee's TCAS with aural warnings, there is still so much to learn, and fun to be had, on the current PIC, and above all it is time to be patient and let Wade and the guys work in peace.Remember all good things come to those who waitRegards,Chris WillisBAW976Senior Captain 757/767 Fleet Regards, Chris Willis, CVHK Line Pilot http://hk.vatsea.net/cpa/
March 25, 200422 yr Hi Chris,There are indeed still a lot of features of PIC767 to be discovered. For instance:I guess that not many pilots know how to "remotely" tune a NAV radio.answer: at page 55 of Wilco Pub FMC Manual Cheers,Nicowww.nicokaan.nl
March 25, 200422 yr Chris and Nico, Your posts are both Gold. Indeed there is still much for many to learn about PIC. Rob and I used to laugh about it every day. For the first two years, hardley a day passed without finding something new. After going back and reviewing page 55 in the FMC manual, I had forgot that the "R" status could also be cycled back to AUTO by recycling the AUTO/MAN switch.Great posts!
March 26, 200422 yr Chris and all,First off, has anyone actually received a Simavionics quadrant? I couldn't even get the company to answer an e-mail to see if my "pre-order," had been received. I wrote several e-mails. Needless to say, as good as the screenshots are. . .I gave up on Simavionics. Now, onto PIC v2. Moderators, are you listening? Why don't you publish a PIC +v2 FAQ that always stays at the top of the message list? The first question should be "Is 767PIC compatible with FS2004?" And the second/third questions should be "What is the status of v2?. . .and when is it due out?" This permanent FAQ will ELIMINATE the constant frustration from those "regulars," who are tired of answering these questions.OK, let's talk more about v2. I really think a lot of expectations are NOT going to be met with this "update." My guess is that all we're going to see is a version that's now compatible with current MSFS versions. The only real tech innovation is for networking gauges. However, I don't see the average home user wanting to sit there for hours watching someone elses guages. As it stands right now, we have to download newer updated aircraft models. And I don't see that changing. Has anyone even mentioned an "official," sound update? In addition is concern that the team has lost the only member with real 767 experience. All told though, a PIC v2 that is compatible with FS2004 and future FSs will be a welcome addition. PIC is just a fun program that has hit a sweet spot with it's current version. Transitioning that into FS2004 should be formula for success. Particularly if that can be accomplished without a real world connection to the 767.On another point, it would be nice to at least hear some encouraging words from the team leader. At least from time to time without almost being forced to comment by PIC's loyal customers. Speaking of which, it's VERY rare nowadays for game/sim company's to keep their most loyal customers almost completely in the dark. Look at the big company's as examples on this one. They start announcing projects WAY in advance. Most company's keep their loyal customers in the loop and "hook," them early with updates and screenshots. It's called "wetting the cutomer's appetite." Something that the PMDG group has learned VERY well.If you have any questions about this, just take short little visit over to the PMDG Support Forum. You'll see what I'm talking about very quickly.HAWKMAN
March 26, 200422 yr Wow! Wow...You know how to stir a pot well... WowPMDG forum is waiting for you. GO!
March 26, 200422 yr Hawkman,1. Regarding pinned topics and continuous questions: so true2. Regarding "expertise" in the team: think again3. Regarding "appetizers" and other mouth-wetting ads: as far as I know, PIC team never did this for money. This is even more true to the new update; it's probably not even in their motives to shoot up the sales etc. etc. You might call that stupid, but I call it wise to concentrate on the work, rather than start posting feature-lists and screenshots here, which would IMMEDIATELY lead to some smartasses telling how this and that is wrong. Trust me, the Beta-team will do that dirty job later on, with a great pleasure.regards,Terops. I don't understand your negativity towards Simavionics. I don't have anything bad to say about how they have conversed with me on various subjects. So they have a small delay, nothing serious. PPL(A)
March 31, 200422 yr Tero,Thanks for agreeing about a pinned FAQ message. Hopefully the moderators here are listening!? Didn't want to make anyone think I'm questioning the designer's "expertise." I was just voicing a concern that the team may lack a real world connection to the 767. That raises questions to me regarding how accurate and real to life the next version may be.As far as the designer's motives for the whole PIC deal, that is up to them. I'll just be happy to see a version that is once again compatible with the latest MSFS.However, it is somewhat disapointing to never even hear anything except for a very few be-grudgingly veiled words from a designer. And, that's only if a designer ever even shows up here.Overall, the lack of support by the designers is VERY noticable here. Yes, they maybe working on v2. But just take a quick look over at the PMDG forums. The difference is like night and day. It's enough to make me question whether or not it's worth it to wait for a v2. And, I'm starting to entertain thoughts that it's getting about time to delete FS2002 from my HD. Technology has marched on. Unfortunately, 767 PIC has not kept up with this march. And right now, PMDG is looking really good.Or, at least some "official," news here to keep the faith.
March 31, 200422 yr Hawkman,>Overall, the lack of support by the designers is VERY>noticable here. Yes, they maybe working on v2. But just take>a quick look over at the PMDG forums. The difference is like>night and day.If it ain't broken, don't support it. There's nothing wrong with PIC. Yes, it won't work in FS2004, but it wasn't meant (sold) for it.>Or, at least some "official," news here to keep the faith.Wade has announced PIC v2. Looks official enough to me. More news would not make it more official.I trust Wade enough to let us know if (horribile dictu) they had ditched the project.Kind regards,Stephan Haaswww.lemont.nl/b767flightdeckhttp://www.pic767flyingclub.com/images/sas544.jpg
March 31, 200422 yr Hey Hawkman,If You had read our (Simavionics) forum, you would have seen that no one was sent a pre-order confirmation email. I have replied to everyone that either sent me an email or posted a message on this subject on our forum. As you say you have gave up on Simavionics, I take it that when we start shipping the throttle quadrant that you no longer want one - your loss.
April 1, 200422 yr I'm finding the nature of threads relating to future developments of PIC rather bizarre.767PIC was a commercial product and as far as we are given to understand any upgrade will not be made available for free. This means those who enquire about availability of this upgrade are 'Potential Customers'. If I were in some way connencted to this venture (which I am not) I would take a very dim view of people slagging of my potential customers and seemingly taking the demand (and hence income) from interested flightsimmers for granted.Furthermore unless made by an administrator/moderator, ordinary members have NO right whatsoever to intimidate, bully or otherwise instruct other members on what they can/cannot post about. I'm not talking about expressing ones opinion. But I've seen many here who seem to beleive they have a right to police this forum. Any non-official who attempted repremand me for raising a PIC related subject will get told where to get off (and in very few syllables). This forum isn't a private club. If that's what someone wants I suggest they install the software to their webspace and set it up, where they can be king of there own lonely little castle.
April 1, 200422 yr The frustration some people vent on this forum is caused by the actions of a few people who refuse to do a simple search to answer their questions about PICv2. There are no cops here, just some regulars tired of reading the same questions...this sometimes results in a blasting. No one is slagging potential customers or showing lack of appreciation, just frustration at the same old questions and pokes at the 767 team.Rob.
April 1, 200422 yr Hi,I am sure PIC team, at least mr. Wade Chafe, regularly views this forum. Therefore, and given his status as a member of the current PIC team AND as a moderator here, he has the possibility of telling us all here, if he regards the current state of affairs as unacceptable.Further, he also has the power of naming more moderators to this forums should he desire.I personally am sorry if I have offended anyone here. My intention is most definitely not to harm the new 767 in any way, rather the opposite. My sincere hope is that the new 767 will be a huge hit and the developers should get the best possible economical benefit from their hard work. It's all in everyone's best interest. Surely we want to encourage the continuance of PIC long into the future.Tero PPL(A)
April 2, 200422 yr Well I certainly would not miss out on a project such as this simply because I was offended by forum posters or perceived attitudes of supporters. PIC V2 will stand on it's own merits. I actually had some jerk tell me one time that he was not going to purchase a certain un named product simply because of our conversation! I mean please we are not all children are we? I could give a hoot less what anyone says thinks or flatulates in my choice of pleasure. While there have been times I have been rounds with some folks in this forum I can honesty say that 99% of the guys here are helpfull, funny and very knowledgeable about 767 operations. Either one conforms to a certain extent and enjoys some great friendships or whines and #### his way to a miserable exitence. So while waiting, spend some time time asking some relevent questions on 767 operations and the like, you might be suprised on what you can learn waiting for the update to be released and some people more than willing to share their expertise on various topics.[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. Smithhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/betaimg.jpg Randy J Smith
April 2, 200422 yr All,First off, I do agree about the forum being a little bizzare. Noobs come here and ask the same questions. . .they are kinda made fun of. . .told they should've researched the answers first. . .and then sent some funny photos of a version 2 car/767 contraption sort a thing. Is it any wonder why these folks quickly disapear. . .and never come back?IMHO, not the way to get folks interested in plunking down a few quid and spending some time learning a whole new sim. At least it wasn't when I first logged on here. . .and it's still not today. Please don't get me wrong. A bit of humor is actually good at times. However, if anything we should be telling them how great and fun this sim is. We should, at the very least be offering ENCOURAGEMENT to these folks. Yes, answer the same old questions (that really should be in a pinned topic!) and leave them with a sense that this is a cool place, where they will be more than welcome. Who knows, maybe that will leave them with a desire to actually come back!?Randy, you have some good points my man. The folks around here are VERY knowlegable about the 767! And, this is some good "downtime," as we wait for v2. So, Randy, here goes;Let's talk about 767PIC vs PMDG 737. Randy, I couldn't help but notice that you display a PMDG 737 Beta-Test member tag under your name. So, what are your thoughts on this?Especially considering that with v2 we are basically dealing with the same program we have now, albeit networked gauges. So, a direct comparison should be more than fair. Also, PMDG seems to have come a long way since it's first 737 release.I remember reading about bugs and various FMC glitches that seemed to have put the PMDG 737 at a disadvantage to 767PIC, at least in the beginning. Glancing over at the PMDG forums I couldn't help but notice the talk of significants patches and updates.OK, so now that PMDG has had some time to refine it's 737 product. . .how does it compare to 767PIC?Any and all takers are more than WELCOME to join in here.
