May 10, 200323 yr Hi All,Just purchased this card from PNY technologies, I was wondering if any member has had problems with their system re-booting after approx 20 mins when running MSFS2002???.( only happens with MSFS)This has happened since i upgraded to this card from the MX440... never happened with the MX440!.I sent an error (auto generated ) report to MS.. they replied "most likely a hardware problem".???I am running with Soltek MB: P4 2.4Ghz: 500 MB Ram: Win XP home & of course the graphic card is the Verto GForce FX Ultra 5800 with 128Mb DDR II ram.Any help would be appreciated.Regards... Steve Darwen. UK
May 10, 200323 yr Congratulations on your new video card. I'm going to upgrade in Jun or Jul when the new FX5900 Ultra should be released. Whenever installing new hardware, you should remove FS2002.cfg from the main FS2K2 folder and restart the sim. The config file will be rebuilt. You'll have to change all your settings again but it should solve your problem. Have fun with your new card!Jim
May 10, 200323 yr Jim,Thanks for the info.. unfortunatly it did not work!! again after 20 or so minutes of flight time the whole PC just re boots time and time again. I have the latest drives for the card etc. its got me puzzled. The card has made a VAST difference to the frame rate.. 70+ great scenery rendering BUT its no good if I can only get 20 minutes flying time!!.Could the card be faulty??? I'm not sure.. I doubt it really.I am at a loss to know what to do next really.. I was considering re-installing FS2002.. but I have all the UK scenery from getmapping...Visual flight.. and that would be a major task to re-install that lot!!... and would it change things I woonder??.I have checked the thermal temperature of the card.. its running at around 76Deg C.. the slowdown temp setting is set at 140C so I dont think its a temperature problem!.. but it would appear to be something funny.. everytime after 20 mins of flying.. strange.cheers Steve.
May 10, 200323 yr Sounds like over heating... have you tried to fly with the covers off the machine? 76 degrees C is actually pretty hot.. for processor chips the red-line is around 90 degrees... my motherboard slowdown is also set at 140 degrees, but not C.. rather F.. Bert
May 10, 200323 yr "(...) its running at around 76Deg C.. the slowdown temp setting is set at 140C so I dont think its a temperature problem! (...)"Well... 76 degrees Celsius is pretty hot. And with a slowdown temperature of 140C, you can be sure your box will have caught fire long before the card's processor slows down!Jaap Verduijn.
May 10, 200323 yr Try uninstalling the graphics drivers, completely, and re-installing. This could help. Also ensure FlowFX is running @ maximum.
May 10, 200323 yr Certainly sounds hot to me, as others have said try it with the covers off and, if you can, with a fan blowing into the box.Another thought, could it be a power supply problem?I assume the card draws power from the mo/bo, could it be that the mo/bo cannot provide sufficient power, I seem to remember the Voodoo cards having a similar problem. Also is your main power supply up to it?Best of luck finding the cure, I know I would be upset shelling out that sort of money and only getting 20 minutes flight.
May 11, 200323 yr I would have said power supply. Especially as you had no trouble with an old MX card that consumes but a fraction of the current required by the FX. I'm not sure the temps are too great a concern at this stage. The card is known to run extremely hot, and had that in itself been a primary cause of unrelaibility, I think the problem would have been wide spread by now.
May 11, 200323 yr i have to agreethat card is using a hell ova lot of power and is generating alot of heat, take the covers of, go get your table fan and start the fan next to the computer and see what happensit has to be the heat, your mobo has a self protection, if it gets to hot, it will reboot, thats what my Asus used to do, better rebooting than frying your mobo.Clayton I7-10700F RTX 3070 32 Gig Ram
May 11, 200323 yr >As a side note, how do you find out what temp your puter is>running at?Eric, if you have an Award bios, you can simply go into the "PC Health" section of your bios and it will have both cpu and system temps listed there.regards,Max Cowgill

May 11, 200323 yr Hi Steve, Very Sorry to hear of your plight on the FX5800 when runnig MS FS2K2.Have you contacted nvidia or PNY technologies?, If not try Nvidia in the states, I can't quite remember their email address because they don't publicise it, but I think its one of these two: [email protected] or [email protected] am sure the FX5800 was tested on FS2K2 if you check out www.tomshardware.com or http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/from memory it ran well FPS up 20% against the Ti4600.Let us know what happens.Good Luck!Best Wishes,ChrisEGBB(UK)
May 13, 200323 yr Sounds like a heating issue to me. My GeForce 4Ti 4400 has been replaced twice due to overheating! I have the covers off always and a fan next to it. Glad PNY has a lifetime warrantee.
