June 15, 200520 yr Commercial Member Hi, It is important to read this before we got millions question duplicated on the same subject each monthPrevious Users of FSW should Uninstall Fs Sky World 2004 Afraid to loose your existant texture or want to back them later? -When you install asv, it will backup your entire fs2004texture..Flight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironmentFS_Texture_Backup-By default ASV at start don't use any of ASVAE texture until you do it manually or change the Active Environment startup option in asv option. To use the mips map 1) Download Imagetool files here:http://simflight.com/users/fsw/files/imagetool/imagetool.zip OrDownload Terrain SDK http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimul...sdk.asp#terrainThe Terrain SDK and install it to a temps folder and copy the imagetool.exe available at Terrain_Toolsimagetool.exe 2) Copy imagetools.exe to Flight Simulator 9ModulesASVActiveEnvironment.3)Before Enable mips.4)Download ALL 3 Parts of the AE 512x515 texture sethttp://library.avsim.net/search.php?Search...=root&Go=SearchA)Run the setup.exe from EACH of the 3 PartsB)Installing each one individually 5)By default ASV mips are disabled, from the Active Environment Interface, enable mips one time and don't touch them again after. Mips WILL HELP for smoother performance and are recommended to enable the mips. Default fs2004 clouds are mips enabled. 6)You only need to convert them one time, after, mips will be enabled for ever. When enable the mips , it will generate mips for all resolution at once, not only one resolution.7)To enable mips, go to AE interface and press mips enabled and wait until it is finished. To be sure you are using AE Texture In Fs2004If All manual (No Auto Selection) in asv option is not enabled and one of the others option are enabled, OR you are going to the AE interface and install manually texture, you will see All Active Environment Clouds,Sky and Environment.ASV Option StartupICS + Random Sky/Env ASV will automatically select appropriate cloud textures (based on wx conditions) and randomly select sky and environment textures.ICS + Last Sky/Env ASV will automatically select appropriate cloud textures (based on wx conditions) and leave all sky/environment textures as previously selected/submitted. You can then manually change the sky/environment textures or leave them alone. All Random Kind RegardsChris Willis
June 16, 200520 yr Hi i understand all this and already downloaded these files, do i need to do it all over was something wrong? I wa one of the first that installed them when they were released with asv. Also the file sizes are different how come these are actually smaller? Also if i do have to reinstall will they overwrite?YThanks!
June 16, 200520 yr Author Commercial Member Hi, You don't need to download them again, if you have them already working. The files are not smaller.Ps: The only difference are the setup files, not the contents.ThanksChris WillisHiFi Simulation Software Team Developerhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpgFreeware Addons for FSW GROUP Kind RegardsChris Willis
June 16, 200520 yr First question before the other questions: does the Wheather setting in FS have to be set to Clear Sky, as in your directions for AS4.5??............I bought the upgrade version and installed.......seemed like the clouds, etc. were much better that previous, but I installed the update and the three 512 exe files ( they go directly to FS/modules/ASV) is that correct??............I set on Online Mode, load a Plan, refresh, load FS, set FSUIP to Clear, FS Weather to Clear, load the same plan, hit Cntrl F12, load ActiveRadar w same plan, start flight,..........the AR screen disappears and the clouds show up when sky is supposed to be clear, and clear when Natl Weather reports say is overcast...........I have done something wrong, obviously, and thughts on where to begin a fix?? Appreciate your help and maybe others have some of similar problems R Leonard
June 16, 200520 yr Moderator Sorry to be so dense but there's still one point that confuses me - 512 are 'default fs9' performance, 256 are faster. What about quality? Which are better, regardless of performance? And how will DXT affect this?Thanx,VicVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
June 16, 200520 yr Author Commercial Member Hi,-512x512 have the best quality, normal performance (similar to default fs2004)-256x256 have little between 25%-30% lower quality, better performance.Ps: In the resolution panel in AE it is writed.ThanksChris WillisHiFi Simulation Software Team Developerhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpgFreeware Addons for FSW GROUP Kind RegardsChris Willis

June 19, 200520 yr I cannot access the link for image tools. It says I do not have permission. Linking to forums.avsim.net/user_files generates an internal server error.Greg Greg Clark

June 20, 200520 yr Hi ChrisI followed your outline for installing 512Mb textures - and then converting to mip maps. However, in the course of doing so, I received the following error message:Delete the old flag 2108C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActive Environment c:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActive Environmentmip.bat OK?I said OK - and the process seemed to complete - saying all textures converted.Should I do anything else?ThanksSimon
June 20, 200520 yr Author Commercial Member Hi, Not sure.. the message came from which program? Firewall, Antis virus or? The mips convertion should take near 20 min. Just check if the mip.bat still available at ModulesASVActive Environmentmip.bat. Your 3D Clouds Texture folder in, ModulesASVActiveEnvironment3D Clouds Texture should be near 1.65 Gig when mips are enabled.-Right Mouse Click on the 3D Clouds Texture folder -Than click properties.Ps:If this have taked 20 min to enable mips, they should be converted.ThanksChris WillisHiFi Simulation Software Team Developerhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg Kind RegardsChris Willis
June 20, 200520 yr Chris3D Clouds Texture = 1.62 Gig. Does this sound about right?mip.bat is in correct place. It must be OK - from what I can tell. Do you agree? Thanks for this.RegardsSimon
