December 21, 200520 yr I have upgraded to my current ASV 5 from previous versions. Also use Flight Environnmet and am eager to check out the clouds with version 6 of Active Sky.With a whole new set of textures, clouds etc [possibly smaller in disk space requirements] introduced with new version, what files can I get rid of prior to the new installation to conserve disk space, without impairing the ability of the new version to install over the old one? I can imagine quite a few texture sets hanging around with all the upgrades over one another.Or does it install to a completely new folder allowing deletion of previous product?Would you know if I am using a water set from Flight Environment, would ICS from version 6 overwrite those when the new textures are sent to FS 9 upon loading a new weather download? Or will ICS leave the water set alone? [i am not sure if these are all in different folders]Thanks,Greg Greg Clark
December 21, 200520 yr Commercial Member Hi Greg,You will be downloading an ActiveSky 6 Install "Unwrapper" for ASV/E users, which will verify your ASV/E installation. The full ASv6 will then be generated and this can be backed up for future re-install use without the need for ASV. You can uninstall ASV right after the ASv6 Installer is "unwrapped" before actually installing ASv6, which is the recommend approach. In certain situations, uninstalling ASV after installing ASv6 will result in some required shared controls being removed, and running the "Repair" feature on ASv6 setup will restore such controls if this occurs.Uninstalling ASV/E can save you upwards of 1GB of disk space depending on your texture sets installed.ActiveSky Graphics is fully compatible with other graphics add-ons like FE, by enable/disable of any ASG texture category (if disabled it will not submit and will leave the texture to be controlled by the other add-on). ASG does not include a water category so it will not overwrite anything here.Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
December 21, 200520 yr Author Damian,Thanks for the reply.Sounds like the best of both worlds.I really like the water sets but missed being able to use Intelligent Cloud Selection. Can't wait!Greg Greg Clark
December 21, 200520 yr I'm in the same position as Greg. Thanks for the information! Great support as usual.ReidENZV
December 21, 200520 yr Hi,i'm looking forward ASv6, hope to loose my little problems whith ASV ;)Does ASG - if enabled - overwrite the FE-textures in the FS-texture-folder? Or will the ASG-textures choose from a special AS-folder?If ASG will overwrite the FS-texture-folder, can i restore it (completely incl. FE-textures) via the ASG-options?Best whishes Roland
December 21, 200520 yr Hi Roland,On your first running of ASV6 it will backup your entire Texture folder. Then, this folder can be restored with a single button press in AGS.Yes, if AGS is enabled, some FE textures are over-written in FS04. There is no way for FS04 to pull textures from an external folder, though that would be cool!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
December 21, 200520 yr Getting confused with names - wasn't ASV Active Sky 5? In which case there can't be ASV6 - surely it'll be ASVI? :-)
December 21, 200520 yr Hi Graham,Jim had his capitals stuck on - the correct version for the new coming release is ASv6 (ActiveSky version 6)Dave
December 21, 200520 yr Pretty soon I am going to type AS6 and really throw you guys off!!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
December 21, 200520 yr How can AS6 backup in a FSwide install? At one point was AS and FE working towards being able to use both products?Bill M Bill McIntyre Asus StrixB650E-F Gamer, AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D, Corsair Titanium DDR5 64GB, Samsung 990 PRO-4TB M.2, (4) 2TB SSD's, Corsair H1150i liquid cooler, RTX 2080TI Founders Edition, (2) LG 34" HD Curved Monitor, Sound Blaster Audigy X, 1Kw PC Power & Cooling Power Supply, Corsair Obsidian Full tower Case. December 21, 200520 yr I'm trying to do a little housecleaning on my HD this week. I just want to make sure I understand this correctly. Is it true that we will no longer need the additional cloud textures that were separate downloads for ASV? I recall there was a 512 set that was downloaded as three separate files, and another as well (64 or 128, can't remember now). In other words, AS6 will come with all the textures it needs, no additional downloads required? Thanks,Dan
December 21, 200520 yr Hi Bill,1. By pulling a copy of your texture folder across your network. Just the opposite of now submitting your textures from ASV TO FS04.2. Peter's choice.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
December 21, 200520 yr Hi Dan,You are correct, no additional downloads required. We have included all 4 texture sets and reduced the size of the download by quite a bit.Clean up as you wish! Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
December 21, 200520 yr Thanks Jim,and the folder FStextures is the only one, where ASv6 changes Data?No other changes in any folders by using ASv6?Best wishes, Roland
December 21, 200520 yr Hi Roland,That is correct!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
