My apologies if this has already been addressed, I did a search, but not joy...I departed from and have been flying over overcast weather areas all night. It seems that while on the ground, I see an overcast sky. After I climb above the overcast, the overcast layer disappears, and I see only the upper cloud layers...and the ground. Any suggestions welcome.Layers set to 5, overcast enhancement is on. Using AS6 with update.Thanks,Rob.

Rob:I'm getting the same thing. Today, climbing out of KORD - which was pretty much socked in with snow and poor VIS, either the WX changed instantly, or I went from 1/2M VIS and overcast, to very much improved WX initially at approximately 2500' and then near clear WX in the WX area by 20K feet. Go figure. :-grnmd Ron McLeod_CYEGhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpg

Hi All,1. Make sure your Frame Rate is locked to a low enought number. If FS cannot keep up one of the first things it drops are clouds.2. Make sure Cumulus vs Stratus is Off.3. Make sure Force Lowest Ceiling is Off.Please also keep in mind that if the visibility jumps, clouds may seem to disappear. Using FS9Haze and Fog Generation can help here. There have been many discussions on this, in this very forum.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg

Hi Rob,A few things:1. You are not getting wx Influenced textures because auto submit is Off.2. Are you processing a flight plan?3. Are you doing short flights of 80 miles or less where the destination weather kicks in?4. Is it possible that the visibility is changing or is there an actual OVC code in the METAR and are you close enough to the station?Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg

1. I have tried to get overcast with auto submit on and off...makes no difference it seems...I will leave auto submit on from now on.2. Yes, processing a plan.3. No, the flights were 300nm +4. I flew only in areas that were completely overcast...Toronto-Montreal-back to Chicago...then to Toronto...the entire flight area has been overcast since Friday and still is...shortly after I climb above the overcast ceiling, it disappears only to return in the final stages of descent.- The nearest AS6 metar display is telling me the area is OVC, yet I can see the ground clearly at CRZ Alt. - FS9 using simple clouds, 3D @ 100%, frame lock to 25fps.Thanks for your help with this...I await the next suggestion.Rob.

Hi Rob,I suggested #1 just in general as I noticed things going through settings! Because you process a plan that is good enough. It is not part of your problem or solution. In FS are clouds set to:Maximum coverage100% 3DWhat is FPS locked at?Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg

In FS are clouds set to:Maximum coverage= No, under Cloud Detail, I am using "Simple" clouds, the coverage slider is greyed out, but is set at 100%. I have seen overcast skies from above (at CRZ ALT) with "Simple" clouds previous to AS6 - FYI.100% 3D= affirm, 100%What is FPS locked at?= 25fps maxOver to you...I do appreciate the help.Rob.

Thank you.I will monitor this thread.Rob.PS - Just to reiterate, I do see OVC sky while on the ground...it's after I climb above the OVC layer that it disappears.

HI Rob,You should not use simple clouds mode, but detailed clouds mode in fs2004 display graphics, simple clouds are basic and not used in ASG graphics, not recommended to use simple clouds which are too much normal cloudsweather.Set your clouds to detailed mode in fs2004 weather display graphics.ThanksChris Willishttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpghttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-beta.jpg

Kind Regards

I experiance the same problem fly in and out of LAX. Where it's definitely OC. While on the ground. When I get to about 1500 Ft, the fog disappers. And when landing all skies are clear til about 1500 ft then OC shows up. This has always happened even in previous versions of AS.Bill M

Hi Chris,I agree, detailed clouds look better...if I had a stronger PC I would use them. Simple clouds will paint an OVC sky however, and I can see a solid OVC when I am on the ground with AS6. After I climb above the OVC, it disappears. This has to be either a config issue on my end or a glitch with AS6.Is there any other information I can provide to help troubleshoot the problem?Rob.

Hi all,No problems that I can see here, this is how it works.#1 This is a station-based weather system, and the closest METAR report never really indicates the exact weather unless you are basically at the airport reported, and even then there it can be different based on influence from other stations. #2 The actual cloud structures depicted are all handled by FS9, based on influence from all stations within the area. I.e. if there is a CLEAR station about 10 miles east even though KLAX shows OVC, then just east of KLAX (and even perhaps many portions of the KLAX area) you're going to get less than Overcast.#3 The report of "I can see overcast on the ground but not when climbing above" is a common one. This is not overcast that you are seeing on the ground, but rather the reduced visibility. All cloud layers are visible from both above and below. Visibility, however, clears as you climb (because of graduation, which can be disabled) and you unfortunately won't see the "low vis" below you. There's been much discussion about all this recently.Hope this helps..
