TrackIR 3 Pro - opinions?

I don't know how in the heck I missed hearing about this thing, but I just sat here with my jaw dropped watching the videos of this thing in action on their website. If it really works as well as it did in those vids, I'm all over this and will probably give myself a Christmas present here... ;)Anyone have one and care to comment on how it compares to what you see going on in those vids? I read something about needing to have a 60FPS framerate - surely they can't be serious with that in FS2004 - you can't hit those numbers at hi-res with AA/AF even on a 6800 or X800.Thanks!

I had a TrackIR 2 Pro and loved it!Then I saw the TrackIR 3 Pro was released and thought, "how much better can it be? My TrackIR2 pro works great!"....Wow, was I wrong.....The precision and smoothness is leaps and bounds ahead of my TrackIR 2 Pro...which is saying a LOT, because my TrackIR 2 Pro is GREAT!TOTALLY immersive. Not sure what else to say about it besides that I have a REAL TOUGH time flying in a VC without it.Hope this helps!:)

I have the Track IR 3 Pro, It is the best bit of kit i have bought, I have just ordered the new Vector addon for it which is suppost to give full 3d movement I.E movement along the Z axis as well as side to side and up/down .Dont worry about the 60 fps thing, I am locked at 20 fps here and it issmooth enough for me, in fact after about a week it was totally naturalIt will probably take me as long again to get used to the Z axis movement Once you are used to the Track IR you will probably take a long hard look at your hanger and delete anything without a VC, It really suits single seat aircraft like the Carenado Mentor or RealAir SF260 and Spitfire where just a small head movement and you can glance right over your shoulder.Just my 2 cents although i am sure there will be a few more users along shortly to give their endorsements. like they say, Run dont Walk ! and get one for yourself

I'm not sure why anybody would say you need at least 60FPS in FS2004 for TrackIR to be smooth. It runs VERY smooth without 60FPS! My TrackIR 2 Pro and my TrackIR 3 Pro both do.EXCELLENT products!Mad Dog is right, after you have TrackIR, aircraft without VC tend to fall by the wayside. Honestly, I can't think of ANY that I fly without a VC now.

60 fps and above it

I really like mine, but I was a bit overwhelmed getting used to it- Up to now, any head movement would cause the view to spin around- it is a 2D sensor. What this means is that you don't necessarily have to turn your head- you could "slew" back and forth with your head pointing forward and the view would turn. It is a bit unsettling until you learn to sit perfectly still in your chair-HOWEVER, the vectors add-on looks like it will do exactly when so many of us were hoping for- Those little sideways movements will cause the view to slew as in real life, and only turning your head will now make the view turn. Ingenious. If this works as good as they are saying, it will make FS the most advanced virtual reality sim you can get. It will probably take a lot less getting used to that the original- and we won't have to take away our virtual yokes to make sure we can see everything- you can just lean around it. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS!!!

If you leave it at default it is way to sensitive, IMO.Once you get it set up the way you like it is completely awesome.

Hi guys,I used the Pro 3 extensively when testing the RAS Spitfire and it's very immersive and I wouldn't be without it for VC use (and Pacific fighters but thats another story) I do however find it a bit sensitive and only the slightest twitch of the head is enough to send the view 90 degrees to the left and can be a bit disorientating. Shane, I would like to know the settings you use to make it less sensitive if you don't mind. Also I don't see that wearing glasses should make any difference in fact it means you have somewhere to stick the reflective spot on! At the moment I am using the end of my boom microphone.CheersTimhttp://members.chello.nl/t.westnutt/realair1.gif

>any of you use prescription glasses? Does TrackIR work OK>with them?>ThanksI do!And yes, TrackIR still works great!!:)

If you have a webcam then look into Cam2Pan which is headtracking software designed to work with FS2004. Cam2Pan is much cheaper than track-IR, although less refined, less customer support, and more CPU intensive. I do not get good frame rates but it gives you a flavour of what track-IR does without the price.

Track IR works perfectly but every time it is mentioned someone always brings up Cam2Pan which is as you state1/ less refined,2/ less customer support,3/ more CPU intensive,4/ does not get good frame ratesI tried it and it just about works but is not really very good, you can also get cheap VR helmets on EBay that are better, I have also tried one of these.Neither of these gives you a flavour of what track-IR does belive meIf you are wanting a properly working Head Tracking system the Track IRis the only way to go, the new vector addon will make this even betterWhy is the cost of Track IR always mentioned, it does not seem overpricedwhen you look at the quality of the unit and the fact that it works 100 %I would rather give up my yoke and pedals than my Track IR, thats how much difference it makes to me.

>>any of you use prescription glasses? Does TrackIR work OK>>with them?>I do!>And yes, TrackIR still works great!!I wear varifocal glasses with further correction for astigmatism. One effect of each lens trying to do lots of things at once is that the image is only sharp when looking through one particular spot on the lens. So if I would have to turn my head to make TrackIR work, I wouldn't be able to look through the "right" bit of the lenses to still see the screen sharply. Maybe I should get one of those 18th Century lorgnettes attached to the top of my yoke :) Sadly, I think that TrackIR is probably not for me.--Bryn
