October 29, 200619 yr Hi allI am currently running version 6.14 with no noticable problems, but it is years since I have been updating.I have a dell Dimesnion 8400, P4 3.4Gh, 1 GIG of ram.I just downloaded the newest Catalyst 6.9 drivers.Di you think there will be any advantage by updating to this version.RegardsHentikBGGH
October 29, 200619 yr Good morning!Yes!I have your card of the 256 meg version and have been running them since they have come out.Make SURE you first use the DRIVER REMOVER also on the ATI site. THEN...update your driver suite. You need to do this with each update. It keeps you safe from version mixing of drivers.Enjoy,BTW, I get 12-18 FPS (with all the posted tweaks for FSX) for the most part and 3-8 FPS on the ground at the 'heavy' airports. This is with ASV 6.5 running in the background as well as NORTONS.I did upgrade my system in the vid department with a new X1900GT, until I saw that it gave no better performance than my original system X800XT. Cheers!Mitch R.
October 29, 200619 yr Hi Hentik, I just went to the 6.9's with almost an idententical system and board and they are the best drivers for me since the 5.13's. Excellent balance of IQ and performance. I would also suggest downloading the latest DX9c October update from Microsoft, as well. Hope they work well for you.Regards, KendallDell 8400 3.2 GHZ H.T.800 FSB/2MB L22 GB 533 DDR2X800XT 256MB/Catalyst driver - 6.9's6x Adaptive AA/16x HQ A/FIntegrated SoundDual Monitor: Dell 2405/1905CH Yoke/Pedals Regards, Kendall 7800X3D/G.B. October 31, 200619 yr Commercial Member I'll throw my results into the mix as well. I have an ATI X800XT All-In-One andI have been using some drivers way back like 5.9's or something. I just hated that Catalyst Control Center and thing seemed to work fine so why fix it if it ain't broke was my motto.Installed FSX and finally decided to try the Cat 6.9's out there. I DID see an improvement as well. Can't really quantify it... picked up a few FPS and lost a lot of shimmer so I would suggest using the lastest drivers, particulary with a newer board. And oh yea... the Control Center... doesn't seem to be as bad as it used to be. ;) Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!) Download and forum is @ http://www.guru3d.com/. You can download just the individual display and WDM driver, sans CCC, from ATI's site.Regards, KendallDell 8400 3.2 GHZ H.T.800 FSB/2MB L22 GB 533 DDR2X800XT 256MB/Catalyst driver - 6.9's6x Adaptive AA/16x HQ A/FIntegrated SoundDual Monitor: Dell 2405/1905CH Yoke/Pedals Regards, Kendall 7800X3D/G.B. November 1, 200619 yr Commercial Member Thanks Kendall,Have to check that out. Always thought when I heard the word ATI TrayTools it was just another name for the CCC. Ha! No sooner did I upgrade to 6.9's did ATI just release yesterday 6.10's. Just dropped them in also with the latest DirectX 9.0c update. Haven't updated that in years... since it first came out.FSX looks great, FPS in the high teens and 20's (locked at 25), most sliders in the mid to upper mid range. However I am now getting read/write errors. So I need to look into that. Infact if I recall, that may be why I never upgraded my drivers in the past because I was seeing this.Oh well... back to tweaking.System specs: Home builtIntel P4 3.4 Prescott2 gig OZ'd DDR2 (or is it 3?) 500MHz RAMATI X800XT All-In-One AGP (Cat's 6.10)Asus MB 800MHz FSBWindows XP Pro SP2DirectX 9.0c (Oct update)21" DellTerabyte of WD Hard DisksCh Yoke/Pedals/Throttle QuadrantTrackIR 4 (a must have!) November 3, 200619 yr Just downloaded and installed the latest 6.10 drivers. IMO, the best since the 6.2's on my system with the 85OXT.Highly recommended.
November 3, 200619 yr Author Hi Clutch CargoI have a system Similar to yours. Are the 6.10 drivers any better than 6.9.BTW - whta is 'CCC'.RegardsHenrik KorningBGGH
