FSX and Matrox TripleHead-To-Go

Featured Replies

Anyone have this 3-screen hardware expander working with FSX? What did you have to do to get it to work? Please share your settings with us, as I know there are some questions about whether or not it will work with FSX due to the new camera view system used in FSX. Posting this in the hardware forum as well, but it may be of service to more users if left in this forum - IMHO. :)Thanks In Advance,http://www.my-buddy-icon.com/Icons/objects/red_3d_plane.gifAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MD

Well I can tell you that the TH2G works beautifully with FSX. You may have to fiddle around with the Matrox SGU. The exact fiddling I can't remember at present since I installed it some months ago. Its interesting but I can't find a text file in the SGU folder referring to FSX so maybe fiddling is not required. However I do remember you have to initially set the Windows resolution to 800 x 600 pixels with one monitor then turn it off. Then connect up the TH2G to the computer plus the three monitors. Turn TH2G on, then boot up the computer and then set Windows display to 3840 x 1024,and it should work. Windows just thinks its displaying to a monitor with 3840 x 1024 resolution is what it amounts to. You may have to (if you can) shift the image on the left and right monitor- right and left respectively to overcome the two bezel separations. Also you should set WideViewAspect=True in the FSX.cfg folder under the display section. This will give greater zoom flexibility and image width.Believe me you wont go back to a single monitor once you catch a glimpse of the vista in FSX , its fabulous.I guess admin will move this if it too specific.Lets hear how you get on.Re WOZ

Oh forgot to mention the new cameras in FSX are not relevant to the operation of the TH2G. They work perfectly. Put a camera on the roof of the goose with the two engines on either side, turn up the sound wick - now I know what those Utterly Butterly wing walkers must feel like.Re WOZ

Have you guys noticed how bright the airport lights are at night though? Have any of you got a fix for this?

I noticed that all of my approach lighting seems enhanced and brighter using the Matrox 3HTG. This despite dramatic reductions of 50% or more in ALL of the lighting scalars, which you can adjust in the FS9 (and probably FSX).cfg. The effect seems worse further away, and diminishes to what looks like more or less normal intensity as I get closer, say the inner marker or short final.http://www.my-buddy-icon.com/Icons/objects/red_3d_plane.gifAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MD

Absolutely agree, the further away the worse it is. It is almost like a scene from close encounters of the third kind. There was a fix on the matrox forums but they have now dissapeared. Shame.

Yes, same for me. This is the fsx config fix. Not sure how effective it is. There may be some other fixes in the library or on the fsx forum. Worth a search.RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=0.5RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=0.5RUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=0.5RUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=0.5

Ah, Great, I will try that thanks.

Howard:You can try reducing those decimal values to 0.25 or 0.20, but those are pretty low already and like my FS9 values, don't really seem to satisfactorily decrease the overly bright approach lights as viewed from a distance using the Matrox set-up, which makes me think it has more to do with the TH2G than Flightsim config values.http://www.my-buddy-icon.com/Icons/objects/red_3d_plane.gifAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MD

I have changed my halo.bmp in the textures folder with one I found on the net. There are quite a few out there (some good some not) but unfortunately I can't seem to find the exact one anymore or references to it. It has a nice modest star-halo surround and is a good compromise at short and long distances with the following settings:RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=0.4RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=0.5RUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=0.8RUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=0.8If I find a reference i'll post it.Re WOZ

The two previous posts were stuck in the wrong place by Admin.

I have the device working with both FSX and FS9 without any problems. The only thing you need to do is get the new version of the software (driver downloaded from Matrox) and run the utility. Make sure both flight sims are optimized and run the "surround" version (shortcut placed on the desktop by the setup utility. Nothing else is required.Frank

Search for this file in the AVSIM library:airport_lighting_v2.ziphttp://www.my-buddy-icon.com/Icons/objects/red_3d_plane.gifAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MD

  • 1 month later...

I haven't loaded FSX on the new system yet... am trying to get FS9 up and running first. Is there a similar fix for the lighting issue for FS9? I did not see any obvious items in my FS9.cfg file to tweak. Thanks!
