January 21, 200719 yr Excellent. Thanks, Manny! Before I overclock I'll have to decide on which CPU Cooler I am going to get. I'm not sure how well the stock fan will work, and I will need to see how much room that Centurion case has(The AMD64 4000+ I am using now is overclocked about 15% and is being cooled by the stock fan with no problems).I ordered all of the parts from Newegg Friday and they are scheduled for delivery on Tuesday, than the fun begins!Pete S. January 28, 200719 yr Finally turned up today. Ran FSX straight out the box (after re-activating with M$). No add-ons or tweaks. Sliders pretty much maxed out with traffic and boats etc set to 50%.Took off from London Heathrow in a 172 and climbed to 1500ft. Set the weather to clear skies in daytime. I was getting around the 10FPS. Not brilliant, but better than before! I think the dense scenery might be slowing it up.I'm now going to load Traffic 2005 and maybe do some tweaking. I'll report some more after my Vista upgrade arrives. What are the most basic of tweaks to improve FPS?Cheers
January 28, 200719 yr I'm very happy with the Zalman 9700 CPU Cooler. It fit well in an ABS Nighthawk MidTower Case and was easy to install during the initial build. To install anything, you'll have to take your system apart to make any changes to the fan if you don't install it during the initial build as you'll have to install a block which has screws which attach to another part on the back of the motherboard. Many people like the Thermaltake CL-P0114 CPU Cooler as well. I like the design of the Zalman better, it's got copper fins and the fan is aligned with the exit fan. I think you'll need a side grill in your case to make the Thermaltake design work well.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180 Tom Perry
January 28, 200719 yr I finally put my system together, and loaded up FSX. Yowsa....that's what I'm talking about! This thing is running FSX like it was meant to be run.If anyone is contemplating a system upgrade for FSX, than: E6700, 8800GTX, and at least 2 gig of the fastest ram you can afford is the way to go. The 10K RPM Raptor definetely helps the loading times. I have seen no stutters, pauses....nada. Runs fluid as can be! Twice the frame rates of my AMD64 4000+ and with even slightly higher slider settings to boot. Best $1800(After all the rebates) I've spent in a while!Cooler Master Centurian Case700W Coolmax P/SIntel D975XBX2 (BadAxe) MotherboardE6700 Duo Core ProcessorCorsair Twin2X2048-6400C4 RAM150G WD Raptor 16M SATA250G WD 16M SATA2 BFG 8800GTX 768M Video CardThink I'll add another 2Gig of Corsair RAM, a Zalman Cooler and do some overclocking. }(Pete S.
