I've ordered my new system!

After a few posts on here asking for advice, I have finally ordered my new system.E6700 Core2Duo4GB 800mhz XMS2 ramAsus P5W Deluxe motherboard500GB SERIAL ATA II HARD DRIVE WITH 16MB CACHE (7200rpm)150GB SERIAL ATA RAPTOR HDD WITH 16MB CACHE (10000rpm)8800GTX graphics cardCreative X-fi fatality sound card700W PSUSamsung 21" 215TW monitorVista upgradeHas anybody got a similar system to this? What FPS do you get? Are your sliders maxed? What about autogen settings?I'll be interested in peoples input on my system. I'll post here next week with a performance report.Cheers

I've seen people with a system like yoursreal nice btw, but you won't be able to run settings maxed. Nobody has been able to. I'm sure you'll be able to get things sorted out though...I got mine running fairly well (couple tradeoffs here/there) and my system is less powerful than yours.

Nice setup - was considering similar myself but thought maybe go E6600 and overclock to get similar performance for less $$

So have I. My current system is a P4 1.8 / Geforce3 500 TI 64MB. Needless to say I can barely run FS4. Still I have been a sim fan and player since the mid 80's when I would try, try, and try again to land the cessna at Meigs with keyboard only on my 8088. I was hooked.New system on order (even after 20+ years I'm not a DIY guy)E66000 overclocked to 3.4MZ2GB 800 MZ ram overclocedNvida 8800 GTX overclocked24" Dell LCDand (this is the cravat, VISTA home premium)I have high hopes, even if I wait for drivers, as I said I have high hopes. I know I'll be thrilled because I'm coming from FS4 on LOW settings. I don't care that I won't be MAXED OUT. In my mind I'm maxed out already. Good luck on your new system. I can't wait for mine.

Mine has impressed me enough to not do any upgrading right now...RhettAMD 3700+ (@2310 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 2.5-3-3-8 (1T), WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian case

You will still have to do some adjusting to your FSX here and there to get good performance but you should be able to get it running well. I'm not sure if you will have Vista installed on it right away, or if you'll be getting XP on it.Are you going to put the OS on the Raptor? Or FSX? Or both? And use the 7200 rpm for storage?RhettAMD 3700+ (@2310 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 2.5-3-3-8 (1T), WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian case

>Are you going to put the OS on the Raptor? Or FSX? Or both?>And use the 7200 rpm for storage? What would you recommend? I was going to just put games on the raptor drive.

Yes, I meant FS2004. I've owned every version. Wasn't FS4 the one where clouds were white balls?:-lol

You know, I ran FS2004 with less computer than you have. I had a P4/1.8 cpu, and a GeForce2 card with 64 mb vram. I ran that until January 06.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2310 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 2.5-3-3-8 (1T), WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian case

I would for sure put FSX on the Raptor. Beyond that, I was kind of asking you what you were going to do, because I am not sure what *I* would do in that situation. It might be advisable to put the paging file on a different physical drive than the OS.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2310 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 2.5-3-3-8 (1T), WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian case

Put FSX on your Raptor, give that drive a good de-frag from time to time, but more importantly, put your OS swap file on a separate hard drive.Helps a bit.

What about partioning it and having OS on 1 part and FS on the 2nd, swap file on the other HD??Currently got 2x75gb Raptors in RAID 0 for OS & FS and it seems to be working well...CheersMike

"What about partioning it and having OS on 1 part and FS on the 2nd, swap file on the other HD??"Exactly what I do...I like that set-up...I like the OS on the Raptor's..I have a small 15gb partition(C:) for WindowsXP, Nod32, Spyware stuff ect...Then the Remainder is partitioned for FS9(D: 140gb) and FSX(E: 130gb)Have Fun...

I finally broke down and ordered parts for a new system too.It is similar to yours, but a little more spartan.Core2 E67002 GIG XMS2 Corsair 6400C4Intel BOXD975XBBX2 MoBo (will play with overclocking!)BFG 8800GTX Video150GIG WD SATA 10K Raptor250 WD SATA2 16mb cacheCooler Master Centurion CaseCoolMax CUG-700B 700W Power SupplyLiteOn 20X DVD RW/RAM Burner Win.MCE with free Vista upgrade.I am going to try and run it with onboard sound, but I do have 2 systems, here, with SB Audigy2 Platinums in them that I can always use if I need to.I also decided not to get 4GIG of RAM,yet! I can always add that if I need to.I am going to continue using my 32" Viewsonic as my monitor. The picture is great and I don't think I could live with anything smaller again!Pete S.
