New DX9.c updates released Feb 2/07 Here's the link...

Thanks Mitch.I think it a good general recommendation, however, for folks to wait for a video and/or sound card driver update to follow before installing the new DirectX. Drivers can be uninstalled and rolled back...DirectX cannot. So if you load up a new version of DX9 and your older video/sound driver(s) have issues, you're stuck until new drivers hit the streets...these days usually not too long, but still could be an issue. And since when is DirectX a hardware issue?CheersBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VSantiago de Chile

I upgraded, rebooted and have no issues to report.DX a hardware issue?I don't follow?!?Mitch R.

What are the new features if there is?Does it enhance FS9?Thanks

>What are the new features if there is?>Does it enhance FS9?>ThanksNoneNo, but it does ensure you are up to date.DX is the ultimate hardware issue - without it, none of the graphics hardware is worth a fig, no matter what drivers you use. Nor is it a specific FS9 or FSX issue. This forum services both communities. Therefore here is where discussions about it belong.Allcott

I last updated DX with the 9/2/06 update. The ver.is 4.09.0000.0904 and the latest date on the majority of the files is 28/2/06. Just ran the latest update 2/2/07 and it says it detects a newer or equivalent ver. already installed, no update needed. How can that be ??Russell.

Unless an app is changed to request newer versions of the DX dlls, it will continue to use the ones it was designed for, regardless of any of these bimonthly updates. It could be FSX sp1 will need one; time will tell. In the meantime don't expect any changes due to updating DX. In all the cases I have seen, if an app needs the new dll, it will package the runtime with an installer with the app, at least for payware apps. scott s..

Allcot, With all due respect I still think the original post should be in the main forums simply because the majority of hard core FS users go to those forums first as opposed to this forum. If the reasoning is correct for it being here then ALL posts regarding any operating system should be here as well. I do understand that it appears there but is linked to here. Respectfully, Craig

It's really quite simple to set a restore point to roll back. Actually the directions on the MS site say just that. Here they are: for those wary of moving forward. # The DirectX runtime cannot be uninstalled. We recommend Windows Me and Windows XP users turn on a "System Restore" point before installing. For information on turning on a restore point, please refer to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base articles:Windows Millennium Edition: Microsoft Knowledge Base article 267951.Windows XP: Microsoft Knowledge Base article 310405. Respectfully yours, Craig

The Vista posts should definitely be in the Hardware forum, under a separate sub-heading if necessary as it clearly impacts on all sims, not just one or the other. Pedants could insist the forum is renamed to `Hardware and General Software Forum` but the result is the same, and clearly the Moderators agree as the topic was moved here. YOU don't have a choice, you have to abode by the rules, same as everyone else. If you don't know where something should be posted either ask first, or risk wasting a moderators time moving it. As well as cut your chances of a suitable reply because someone doesn't see the logic of asking about CTD's in the Screenshot forum. And respectfully or not, your are plain wrong if you think hard core FS users go to any particular forum first,. They have suifficient knowledge and experience to go to the RIGHT forum, and your way not only leads to irrelevant topics going unanswered, it also breaks the rules you signed up to when you joined. And the same argument obviously goes for DirectX which is a core part of the Operating System and neither OS-specific nor sim-specific. BOTH sims require DX9 to operate, XP and Vista won't let you run them withoy it installed. So what do you opaln on doing>? Asking the same question in seven different forums? Do try thinking.Allcott
