August 13, 200718 yr Who chose to stick with the original INTEL fan that came with the processor (core 2)? If not, what was your choice of replacement? I am looking ahead to getting a new system and this should help me decide.Thanks.Abe
August 13, 200718 yr http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835118003Ive got a 2.6 factory E6750 running at 3.6 and not breaking a sweat. I used zalman on all of my AMD builds, they are quiet, efficient, and bulletproof.thumbs up for me....Danon O.
August 13, 200718 yr Abe,I'm using the original cooler for my X6800 - no problems with keeping the cpu cool enough.Ulf BCore2Duo X6800 (2.93GHz) running at 3.3GHz, 4GB RAM8800GTX, dual view 1920x1200 and 1280x1024Creative SB X-Fi (Gamer mode)WinXP Pro SP2, FSX SP1, FS9.1

August 13, 200718 yr I'm using a Thermaltake Big Typhoon. It's a beast and works a treat on my 6850. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835106061 Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
August 13, 200718 yr Unless you are overclocking, since the Conroe is a lot more thermally efficent than the Pentium 4 processors, the stock heat sink and fan should be well up to the job. http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2006/08/0...nk_group_test/1Best and Warm RegardsAdrian Wainer
August 13, 200718 yr Now using Q6600 with stock HSF. Without OC, 50-55 degree for normal load, 6x when FSX load (from Everest). If OC to 3.2G, 60 degree as base, easy to see 70+ for any core. Will install the Scythe Ninja plus rev.B after 2 weeks. Was considering Thermalright's Ultra 120 extreme before, but a bit out of my budget.Alkit
August 13, 200718 yr Hi John, I put in a Big Typhoon when I built my AMD Athlon 64 4800 socket 939 dualcore machine and it was really easy to fit [ though if it had been a retrofit it would have been a bit more time consumeing as the mobo would have had to be removed to get at the backplate mounting ] and it is very quiet even when the processor is overclocked.http://www.overclockercafe.com/Reviews/coo...Tt_Big_Typhoon/Best and Warm RegardsAdrian Wainer
August 14, 200718 yr Wow, that P4EE 955 certainly runs hot. August 14, 200718 yr Ya'll know Coolaler? the Godfather of O/C.Here, he has a Q6600 at 4.0GHZ under a Thermalright. But note that at 4.0, he has the CPU volts cranked way high and can only get a single SuperPi run. At 3.6GHZ, the system is entirely stable with all 4 cores running simultaneous SuperPi-s. 3.6Ghz is our Q6600/G0 target. But you gotta have the best air cooling available. http://www.coolaler.com/~coolaler/forum/pr...?t=157070&pp=10Note too, he's using DDR2-667 ram for his system speed tests. With the current state of the art, DDR-800+ ram speeds are a total waste of $$$.
August 14, 200718 yr Keep in mind it's not just the CPU cooler - it's the rest of the board to keep up with it as well.I like the oil solution = drop the PC in a tub of non conductive oil, figure out how to read a CD/DVD, and voila. Plus, smells a bit like french fries :)Etienne
