HELP!!!!!! Brand New 8800 GTS 640MB NOW STUTTERS

Recommended Posts

>I Might Do That. >OH NO No Vista Here.Gary, without Vista your 8800 is just a very, very expensive bit of DX10 hardware that will never run anything but DX9 mode.No offense intended, but that's really kind of a waste of money... ;)

BillYou know, I have read TONS and TONS of post But I have to say yours are always the most NEGATIVE and DEMEANING. SO you know I am happy with the performance boost I got going to the 8800. And how do you know I aint going to go to vista? do you have any clue as to my future plans for my PC? One more thought, seems like early in the year i posted here and got a real nasty post from you. *frown*Its my opinion you dont represent ESDG very well.(PS. one more thought. Your guages are excellent, I fly the Citation II and CJ1 and enjoy the guages but, You should keep writing software and stop responding to posts in forums.)

Gary your ram is fairly slow, and could be the bottleneck. You should go to at least 800 MHz, or 1066MHz if your mobo supports it.

Im not sure about the mobo. Its a Asus p5N-sli. I had some 266 in it before, now i have the 533Mhz, so its double then it was. Like i said I did have a good boost in performance and have not had any CTD's that I had before with my old Vid Card. I am now also OC'ing my e6400 and its stable at 25%.I might wait for my wife to purchase some new shoes so i can have an excuse to buy more ram. *lol*Thanks for the Tip!

Boy, for someone with his hand out screaming for help you sure know how to get out of line on someone like Bill right quick. He's advising, through experience I'm sure, that your card performs even better in DX10 since it was designed with that in mind. You musta skimmed the part where he said 'no offense meant' and let your ealrier-in-the-year grudge get in the way.A responsibility on your end when publicly asking for help is gracefully accepting responses that don't particularly help you.And you have a nice day too!Erich

I was going to say the same thing, Ram...I would have gone for more speed with the ram, instead of bulk.Btw. Bill is pretty spot on. He assumed this meant no Vista for you... "OH NO No Vista Here. I have it at the office. Its HORRIBLE crashes all the time. cant use half my programs from work."But then you said..."And how do you know I aint going to go to vista? do you have any clue as to my future plans for my PC?"So....if you are not going to go vista you know that card was designed for DX10, and with it sitting in a DX9 enviro. its going to perform with cards almost 1/2 its price....I will not being going vista anytime soon, if at all. If you are planning to do the same, you might be able to trade the card and use the saved money to get some faster ram perhaps. Just a friendly suggestion.Keep us posted on the progress, and good luck.Danon - -

Don't use the settings on the nvidia page. They will give you pretty average visual quality and you'll think you're in FS9 again. You can get the benefit of FSX's higher visual quality WITH good performance. The fact that 64-bit nvidia drivers are STILL not up to par right now is also going to hinder you. In fact I think that may be a good part of the problems you are seeing.Your Q6800 should be *destroying* the performance I get, which is smooth as silk and good frames. With the suggestions of others here, you can achieve it. The Affinitymask settings mentioned above are a good place to start. And research here about the 64-bit nvid drivers is another place to start.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

>Bill>>You know, I have read TONS and TONS of post But I have to say>yours are always the most NEGATIVE and DEMEANING. >?? His post was neither negative nor demeaning. If I ask you the same question, will you treat me as badly? Because I was certainly thinking of asking the same question as he did.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Let me Be Clear.I DO appreaciate peoples help, But the way it was put was just wrong and I was a little taken aback or insulted. I may have been a little sore at other remarks he has made in other post. He also could have put it a little different. Now i sorta feel ganged up on. Oh Well, Ive been wrong before. Anyway, For those who say A waste of money how do you account for my performance boost? And I guess thats about it.Sorry if I was jumpy. I will now SHUT UP and eat my Humble Pie! == Added in an edit ====THe more i sit here and think about it Erich the more I know you are right and I WAS in the wrong. I was extremly defenseive. I was even rude. So Bill, I am SORRY and i wish i could take it back. I do have to say that what i said about his guages still stands. They are excellent. With Foot in mouth and hat in hand I say to ALL sorry. And thank you ALL for pointing in the the right direction.== End Edit ===

Gary, I wrote the following reply before I finished reading the entire thread, so it was written prior to your apology, which I fully accept. Nonetheless, I'm going to leave it as written, since it is simply explanatory and not inflammatory... :) I surely meant no offense whatever, but as others have stated given that you're not planning to install Vista, the money spent on the 8800 would likely have been put to better use on more and faster memory.Heck, for what that cost you could have 4 GB of "Crucial" DDR, which is currently the best on the market... ;)Additionally, if you do decide to downgrade (er, I mean "upgrade!") to Vista, by that time the 8800 will be rather long in the tooth and obsolete. In fact, since DX10.1 is now the current spec, it's already obsolete! :~P >Bill>>You know, I have read TONS and TONS of post But I have to say>yours are always the most NEGATIVE and DEMEANING. "always?" Hardly. More likely less than 1% are negative, and never "demeaning," the propensity of some to take offense where none was either intended or written notwithstanding. Try exegesis rather than isegesis whenever parsing another's words.>SO you know I am happy with the performance boost I got going>to the 8800. And how do you know I aint going to go to vista?>do you have any clue as to my future plans for my PC?I read what you wrote, "OH NO No Vista Here. I have it at the office. Its HORRIBLE crashes all the time. cant use half my programs from work." The emphasis on the "OH NO" implied "not now, not ever..." >Its my opinion you dont represent ESDG very well.I don't "represent ESDG" at all:"NOTE: Unless explicitly stated in the post, everything written by my hand is MY opinion. I do NOT speak for any company, real or imagined..."Did I "explicitly" state that I did? Nope.

Even without DX10 and Vista, the 8800 is still one heck of a DX9 performer. Unfortunately for us flight sim nuts, FS is not one of the titles that benefits from the DX9 power of the 8800. I know this first hand, as I upgraded from a 7900 to an 8800 and noticed neglible improvement in FS9 and FSX, but I do see the benefit in other DX9 titles. Gary
