3 Monitors - Needs advice

Featured Replies

Yes, it is well worth it. I reckon to lose a bit more fps, say 30% at a rough estimate.

But Howard- FPS doesn't mean much with multi mons- my FPS drops from a typical single mon 40 to about 18 with 3 mons. But the total pixel output that my eyes/brain see is 35% greater!! So I have that much more QUALITY !!!! In effect, I've unlocked a hidden 35% processing power- in Gary's case his processor is producing 240% more! Occasionally when I've gone back to only one mon for bechmarking, I'm astounded at how crappy it seems- even tho' FPS has jumped back from 18 to 40+.Alex Reid CYYJ

Jim Cooper or Magic Man,Now that I have three monitors and the TH2G, all is mostly good except I am trying to work out where to put my fourth monitor. I can either use my other 19" LCD and put it to the left or right of my TH2G trifeca or use my 22" widescreen as you guys have done in stacked formation. The question is, what furniture setup did you guys use to stack them like this? Also, given both the 22" widescreen and 19" LCDs are 16" tall, don't the TH2G monitors tower over you when sitting in your chair?Any furniture tips on this will be appreciated.Gary

Gary, you're absolutely right. If you look back at the photo I posted it was 'Work-in-Progress'. Basically you almost have to custom build a desk so that the instrument panel is chest height and the outside views are at head height. A way round this is to build it on a DIY shelving unit where you can place the shelves at any height you like.RegardsJim

Same here, I cutout part of the sides of a shelving unit so that the monitors could spread out and then put an MDF piece across to sit the monitors on. They are actually mounted on pole arms but just sit vertical on the board.Built a wooden frame to support the shelving unit and a shelf on this supports the 24". My eyelevel is roughly in the centre of the triple view (vertically) so I'm looking down at an angle at the 24" which is itself slightly angled upwards.I've got a shelf that I can slide in, in front of the big screen but, to be honest for other games that I play on the 24" I just put the keyboard on my lap. The small table at my side is ideal for the mouse at that level.

Thanks guys. I thought as much that custom made furniture would be needed. At the moment, I am running the 3 TH2G monitors + a 4th 19" LCD all side by side, which will have to do until I buy or make up a better desk for the 22" widescreen to be used.Gary

Hi,I'm a newbie to FlightGear - and really like it (well, not such a newbie as I can fly the helicopter).I have a laptop (nvidia Geforce Go 7400) and one external monitor, XP SP2. All was working nicely.Something weird happened to my XP box a while ago, and for some reason when FG starts up now, the main display window after launch will default to the laptop monitor and not the external (large monitor). I wasn't too worried about this as I just dragged it across to the large monitor and resized it. The problem was that I couldn't resize it the full resolution of the big monitor - but it was mostly Ok - so I didn't worry.However...now....I have got my Matrox TripleHead2Go...so, I have 3 monitors now that replaced the 1 single large monitor (as well as the regular laptop display). The same thing is happening as before, but now it is more annoying as the largest I can resize FG is to be about 1500*768. Each monitor is at 1024*768. So what I get is the main, middle monitor is fully covered and I can strech the FG window to about 1/4 of each of the side monitors. No matter what I do can I get it to go bigger. I have de-install FG, and each time I try to Reset to default, FG will crash. So, I guess there is a switch somewhere to tell FG which monitor to use. Or maybe a registry key - since after de-install and re-install all the settings were still there (as I have made earlier). So, can anyone give me instructions on how to just stretch the main FG window to span all 3 monitors with the TripleHead2Go? or rather, how to tell FG to change the default monitor to the 2nd monitor?I have tried increasing the resolution within FG to large numbers - but none of that helps. Thanks for any hints.Note: I don't want to go to the extreme of having 3 FG's running with slave setup, etc....I just want the regular FG with a stretch view...

You're probably better off asking this question on the FlightGear website or going direct to Matrox.RegardsJim

oops...sure...for some reason I thought this forum was for FG folks...apologies...
