September 26, 200817 yr They cut my frame rates up to 40%. They caused my computer to freeze and require rebooting 5 min. into my flights, on the ground even. Horrible. I went back to the 175.19s. I am using Windows XP SP2 with an 8800GTS. I never had a worse outcome. When will I learn that everything Nvidia does is pointed to any game except FSX!Randy Jura, KPDX
September 27, 200817 yr Using Vista, the new 178 Drivers work great for me on my 8800GT video card. Only time will tell, however, since I've only made a few flights with them.
September 27, 200817 yr I kind of think that's the problem. The 178's are pointed at Vista, which I won't be installing for a long time yet, so I guess I'm stuck in so far as future driver updates, but.... sooner or later!Randy Jura, KPDX
September 27, 200817 yr Not so sure. I run Vista and the new drivers don't work as well as the old 169.25 drivers.Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
September 27, 200817 yr Moderator That weird Randy. I just installed those on my 8800 GTS 512 along with the newest DX9 update from August and they are working great for me. I am on XP SP2. Although Michael at FS-GS was actually the one who did the set up on them after I installed, so I don't know about particular settings, but they work fine on my system. BTW, you ran the driver cleaner before you installed right? Are you using Enhancer? If so, we also updated and reinstalled when going to the newer driver. September 27, 200817 yr Yea, I ran Cleaner Pro, but the the only time I tried Enhancer, I crashed my computer and almost didn't recover. I'm no genius when it comes to these things, so I have to keep it simple so who knows why one "similar" system can accept the new drivers and another doesn't? I don't.Randy
September 27, 200817 yr I installed them last week on a fresh Vista 64/SP1 OS and they work great. Their as good if not better than the previous 177.92
September 27, 200817 yr "Vista 64/SP1 OS" .....just what is with 64 vs. 32 bits in Vista? What advantage to FSX, if any?Randy Jura, KPDX
September 27, 200817 yr The 178.13 is very unstable on my PC compared with the 177.92. Could well be my overclock settings but I can't be bothered to start picking at that scab again. One thing I found was that reducing or deleting the "BufferPools" entry in FSX.CFG made an improvement - but I still got occasional crashes so I've reverted to 177.92.The "BufferPools" point may be significant: perhaps it implies that the newer drivers are making better use (or trying to make better use) of the video card's resources, including RAM. I'll wait for the next 178 before trying again though.Tim(Asus Rampage Extreme, E8600 @ 4.3GHz, DDR3-1600 @ 1601 7-7-7-20 Perf Lvl 7, Evga 8800 Ultra factory superclocked @ 655MHz, 2x300Gb 15k SAS). 14900ks, RTX4090, 64Gb@6000-30-36-36-T2, Samsung 990Pro 2Tb , Dell G3223Q 32" 4k Gsync + 27" secondary monitor. September 27, 200817 yr Bob, I agree with you. I tried the new drivers as soon as they were released Thursday but immediately reverted to 175.19. I lost too many FPS with FSX. I didn't try FS9 but I imagine it suffered too.I suggest you try these 175.19 drivers as I was running 169.25 until I found these. They have the same frame rate as 169.25 but give you a more up to date control panel. My system: Dell XPS 420, Q6600, 3GB, VistaHP32/SP1, 8600GTS/512MBDolphUpdate: Bob, get a better monitor man! You will NOT regret it. I have a 24" WS flat panel and OMG what a difference!
September 28, 200817 yr I first said that the 178's were working well. After several flights, I've reverted back to the 177.92's. The 178's did cause a few crashes, and I found the frames suffered especially with Otter type aircraft in water. The water really affected the frames more than ever with these new drivers.
September 28, 200817 yr Again as with any new drivers, how they were installed is usually the culprit with the issues many experience. With about a dozen sims/games including FSX and FS9 that I have installed with these drivers they are working great. September 29, 200817 yr I always uninstall NVidia from Control Panel, run Driver Cleaner, Restart, and install the new. Usually, there is no problem. These drivers have caused me some issues...I'll wait for the next ones.
