December 24, 200619 yr Is there some addon for FS9 that displays a moving map of your current flight.I'm not talking about the ones that you have to punch in the flight plan to get the moving map; but rather one that reads the current flight and just displays it on a map.Like the moving maps you see in the TV screens when you are in a 777 (if so equipped). Thanks :)

December 24, 200619 yr You might also consider 'FSMoving Map' available in the file area for free which works via the FS Kneeboard. There are also some maps available to download to use with it as well....or, you can create your own.
December 24, 200619 yr ....or join BA Virtual and get it as one of the software packages.Rob Elliott, EGPE InvernessPSS Airbus Support andAirbus Fleet Training Captain, British Airways Virtual [email protected]http://www.speedbirdonline.co.uk/airbus.htmlhttp://www.bavirtual.co.uk
December 24, 200619 yr FS Navigator has a real time moving map with all of the details of FS9 on it. Frequencies, VORS, NDB, Intersections, Airports, Runways etc. everything that's on the GPS is on the map plus more. It is not a true sectional map though.
December 25, 200619 yr Just a couple of clarifications on the previous posts about FSNavigator and (FSMMM) FlightSimManagerMovingMap. FSNavigator shows airport and navigation information -- Moving Map utilizes jpg versions of VFR flight charts. Both are great in their own arena of focus. I do a lot of VFR so I typically fly with FSMMM on the 2nd monitor and only pop up FSNav when I need a distance and bearing to an airport. Or if I'm looking for an airport. It does have a search feature - which I only recently learned to use :-dohMoving Map can also show nearby AI if wanted. Overall, both are pretty low-impact.Loyd Hooked since FS4... now flying: FSX Acceleration on Win7/64, Core Duo E8400; GA-EP45-DS3R; GTX 460-768MB; 4G RAM; Freezer 7 Pro
December 25, 200619 yr I was actually talking about 'FSM Moving Map' by Rana Hossain, who is no longer 'in business', but the program is still available. Again, it integrates with the stock kneeboard. Here's the link:http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=62743
December 25, 200619 yr Or FS Commander:http://www.fscommander.com/screenshots.htmSince this package doesn't run 'inside' FS (like FS Navigator), I advise to consider it only if you have a dual screen or a 2nd (networked) PC together with WideFS installed.Otherwise you keep swapping between FSC and FlightSim. December 25, 200619 yr Yet another choice might be the payware FS Flight Keeper. It's map can be expanded to show the entire flightplan area. Many other functions. You do have to enter a flightplan, though. Some of the GPS based add-ons show terrain and can run without entering a flight plan. The question for you regarding these is how much area do you wish to see.Another application that will give you information I think in a seperate screen outside of FS is one that links up FS with Google Earth maps. Since Google Earth can show political maps as well as photo-based scenery that might just work for you. The name escapes me at the moment.
December 25, 200619 yr There also is the Google Earth option where you can fly over the map or the Satellite image. Works best on two networked computers though although it can work on only one.I'm thinking of getting the FSWidgets mentioned above because You can set up manuals, maps, Sid Stars, weather and other stuff in it. Having manuals, checklist, procedures etc. available plus maps and other stuff sound like a great option for me. Would welcome any comments as to it's performance, frame rate hit etc.
December 25, 200619 yr I would highly recommend you go to the fswidget web site and have a careful look around. I've been using most of their products since they first became available and am more than pleased with their projected performance. Because of the nature of their design the FPS hits are not of any concern to my set-up which is not top of the line nowadays:Custom Built Pentium 4Intel P4 2.8 800MHztwin 80GB HD raid 0 configurationRadeon 9800 Pro 256MB with latest driver. The philosophy of Fermin and John is "try it before you buy it" with no hassle. I would consider the service provided for their products to be a model example to all developers. Just read through their forums and you will be convinced of that.http://fswidgets.com/downloads.phpGary :-rotor
