"Seeing has how Ground Environment and Ultimate Terrain don't contain mesh, it shouldn't matter whether FSG is above or below them... They're totally different products that do different things.Ryan Maziarz "If Ultimate Terrain is not "mesh", what is it? I thought it was a mesh product. I'm still thinking of buying FS Genisis 's FULL set of FS Genisis Mesh. What "number" mesh is it.. 78, 38 or what. Is it still supposed to be the "best " mesh for FS2004? Thanks, jerrycwo4

HelloA quick read of the Ultimate Terrain web site will reveal what the product does.It enhances coastlines and water bodys along with providing extra landclass features and night lights.Put very simply the layering works like this.FSgenesis provides mesh, put simply this provides the terrain elevationsUltimate Terrain provides accurate Coastlines around this terrain.GE Pro provides the textures that are painted on this terrain.Landclass tells FS9 where and what GE pro textures to paint on this terrain. All will work together and will certainly transform the sim.Add Flight Environment to this for nice Sky water and clouds textures and you are all set to go.Hope this helps Gerryhttp://www.freewebs.com/reading1871/30.jpg

It should also be noted that FSG sells a US landclass product, which has to be integrated with the UT USA landclass if you want to use both (UT USA website explains how to do this).scott s..

I'd just like to add my impression of ultimate terrain. My home is on a smallish lake here in southwest michigan. I live out on a peninsula that juts into the middle of the lake. With the default terrain, my lake was completely unrecognizable with regards to shape. It was shaped nothing like it is in real life. The only way I was able to find it is because it lies 8 miles due west of my local airport. When I installed Ultimate Terrain it was an utter transformation. The lake depicted in FS2004 now with UT is clearly my lake, the shape is unmistakable and incredibly accurate.

Thanks a million for that explination on what every parts of the "scenery" does. I've been looking for that for about 10 years. What are some website's that I can go to to get a BETTER understanding of all of these scenery parts. I'd like to learn it as good as the best of all of you. Thanks, jerrycwo4

Jerry:Avsim is the website you are looking for, the "search button" is your friend and will yield a wealth of information since subjects like these are covered ad nauseum over the years. For a total FS9 experience:Ultimate Terrain = Coasts, Roads, larger city and town landclass, new night textures and 3d night lighting.FSG Landclass = US Landclass which can be merged with Ultimate Terrain to cover smaller towns and cities not depicted in UT.FSG Mesh = Terrain elevation mesh only covering all major areas of the world sold in packs as needed.Flight Environment Pro = Stunning replacement clouds and water classGround Environment Pro = Stunning global ground texture replacementReal Enviornment Pro = The icing on the cake for subtle sky and lighting elementsThe above 6 packages are your base enhancements for FS9. From there add various tree and texture enhancement packs located for free here at Avsim and you will find the reason that FSX has yet to turn the corner.HTH,Mike T.

Ultimate Terrain's roads, coastal shapes and bodies of water (not to mention the cool night lights which are actual points of light) increase realism greatly. Here is an example comparison between a UT screenshot and map of Saint John , NB, Canada;St_John_NB_ultimateterrain_comparison.gif

Active Sky 6 and Radar Contact 4. default weather and ATC are both trash and AS6 and RC4 do a bang up job of making them more realistic. in fact I'd say those two would actually be at the top of my personal list if we were to rank the major add-ons.

I'm curious, where does FS Global 2008 fit into this? Is it just another terrain mesh program?Dave

This example was great. I'd really like to know how you made this set of pictures alternate like it does? jerrycwo4

It's a gif format image file, which can be used to make simple animations.Googling "make animated gif" gives links to a number of tutorials on how to do it if you want to take your interest further.phil

I just got AS 6.5. all I can say is "Holy *bleep*" Active Sky totally transforms the MSFS experience. :)

>I just got AS 6.5. all I can say is "Holy *bleep*" Active Sky>totally transforms the MSFS experience. :)>Thanks for feedback.Referring to my earlier post -( FS Global 2008 vs say a combo of the 8 recommended specialist packages) - has anyone loaded most or all of them & has there been a significant FR hit??I have read conflicting reports on the FR impact of FSG2008 on FS9 - what are the experiences?? My gut feeling is a combo of 8 specialist packages should be better than one 'Global' package, but not sure what the FR & & impacts are. Thanks RP51
