March 20, 200323 yr The low-res version of the cloud video works. The high-res is a broken link. The video is very impressive. I think the clouds in Fs2004 will be northing short of a revelation over previous versions. It's interesting to hear that the clouds in the distance will be rendered as 2d, which should help with peformance while still giving us the ability to see clouds to the horizon.
March 20, 200323 yr Author Commercial Member Hi Panman, Great observation. As I post a month earlier from the ealier fs2004 video, you can see now the clouds do not disappear anymore, cumulus to cirrus (high level clouds), when the aircraft is not near the clouds altitude..ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
March 20, 200323 yr I noticed that it also says that AI planes will push back now also before taxiing instead of turning around at the gate and that VFR planes wont be allowed to fly if the weather isnt good enough for them.So lots of nice features being added. Im really looking forward to seeing this in a few months time.Craig Kiltie
March 20, 200323 yr I can get to the smaller file, but I don't see any footage. All that I get is audio. :-( Tim13
March 20, 200323 yr I think the Clouds in FS2004 (or what ever its called) will be good, if Combat Flightsim 3 is anything to go by, as I think the clouds in CFS3 are the best ive seen in any flight sim (*exept Flight Unlimited III which will never have anything to beat it exept itself) I just hope it is not as bugridden as CFS3.*My most emotional moment in my 4 year Flightsimming experience was in Flight Unlimited III ,taxing from the stand at KSFO it was broken cloud and light wind, by the time I was sat at the end of the runway behind a couple of 747s and it was raining to the point of not being able to see properly, then the thunder started and I lost sight of the terminal buildings. The effect of rain on the windshild is like nothing Ive ever seen, if you look hard enough at the rain drops you can see a reflection of the outside world upside down, as is real life. Also can anyone remember the turbulence given off by other aircraft taking off, that would make your plane sway softly in the wake. I would love to see Microsoft beat that. Those were the days.Andrew
March 20, 200323 yr According to the weather video presentation MSFS team is using Sudio Max, which is a professional version of GMAX, to render clouds. The clouds look to be a combo of sprites and textured bitmaps. Together with the weather engine the over-all effects look fantastic.I think there will be a slight performance hit, perhaps 5 fps compared with fs2002 cloud/weather system - slider set to max. But, if they can continue to optimize everything as a whole then the need to upgrade later to those with a high-end system now will probably not be likely. Also, FS2004 should be one of the very first DX9 games to come out in 2003 and this should be good for those with DX9 compliant cards NV30-35 or ATI 9700/9800 Pro.I notice too many of the shoots show poor AA or jaggies probably using Nivida Ti4600 cards. I think Nividia and Microsoft are still partnered strongly due to XBox. Anyways, FS2004 team please show some screenshots of the game using ATI 9700 Pro with 6X AA and 16X Ansio.
March 20, 200323 yr Author Commercial Member Hi, (*exept Flight Unlimited III "The clouds are VERY pixeled in fuIII not 16 bit or either 32 bit, but even lower.. I have yet to see any 35 000 feet clouds in fuIII, and realistic lightning on clouds. I don't put fuIII in the same category.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
March 20, 200323 yr Here are some things that I found to be great news."ATC detects IFR weather conditions and refuses take off and landing requests by VFR aircraft." "Request direction to the airport

March 21, 200323 yr I wonder how the cloud's will look like from the high flight level's as far as repetition? I am very impressed! My new Athlon 3000,1gb,Radion 9700 machine should be fine with this new toy. And with PMDGs B737-800, I will be in hog heaven! :-)
March 21, 200323 yr From my point of view, I think the best of all (besides everything that has been already mentioned) is that the weather
March 21, 200323 yr These are impressive clouds but not as impressive as yours Chris. I was wondering though there isn't any thunderstorm clouds shown in fs2004 so my question is what will the C/Bs look like and will the lightning light up the night sky as in real life or just see lightning streaks like in fs2000/02. I hope it will light up the sky because that would be extremely cool. I also think there should be three radio buttons to command the type of lightning. 1. sheet lightning (cloud-cloud) 2. cloud to ground. 3. both.
