There is already a provision for that. Why do you think that the engines are on the bottom of the Hudson. The engine mountings are designed to fail when the engine causes a lot of vibration or when they are stressed in uncommon (no thrust) directions.

The only other jetliner ditching as far as I know was a 767 that was hijacked and forced to stay airborne till it ran out of fuel. There were fatalities, so guess that is why this was the first "successful" ditching of a jetliner. I am glad things worked out this time.Donald T.
