GNS430W into Carenado Arrow?

Featured Replies

Has anyone swapped the default GPS with the RXP GNS430 into the Carenado Arrow? Maybe the 530 unit would work better...

Ryan,I spent some time fiddling with the panel last night, and it turns out that the way the VC is modeled, it's difficult to swap out the avionics. I don't have the RXP stuff, but I do have the SimFlyer GNS 530 & 430, and tried to install them...the space where the original GPS is installed is too small for the GNS530 to look realistic. The GNS430 does fit nicely in the #2 NAVCOMM slot, though, right above the existing transponder and below the #1 NAVCOMM. I tried to put the GNS430 in place of the #1 NAVCOMM but if it's sized correctly, the VC model breaks up the lines of the faceplate, and if you size it to fit, it looks squashed.

I've got it in the Nav/Com 2 spot. I have the weather radar in where the default GPS is too.

The GNS530 fits perfectly as a replacement for the Carenado GPS. Just adjust the hight a bit.

That's what I suspected. The radiostack is almost an exact copy of the stacks in their Cessna U206G and Mooney M20J; these also show these lines. As for a third party GNS530 in the place of the Carenado GPS; it somehow looks silly because of the width. It looks squashed vertically. In real life a Garmin 530 is as wide as the rest of the radio's in the stack. If I get this bird I'll just remove the GPS altogether, just as I did with the GPS in the Mooney :(

Cheers, Bert
