October 15, 200916 yr Yes that is certainly a workaround. I have several others, such as manually deleting enroute or terminal fixes until properly sequenced into magenta. However there are times when, gosh darn it, I need to use that DIR INTC feature. Oh I almost forgot to mention one other not so minuscule detail: my issues dont always cause a freeze during a course intercept command. Sometimes, just a plain ole garden variety DIR command will cause trouble. When using build 0055 I made every effort possible to avoid that button as if it were the Bubonic plague. So, Dan, if you do the scenario you outline (i.e. without the TTT fix), do you get a CTD, or this just him and a few other people. I use DIR INTC from time to time in flight (e.g., cut off a corner on a flightplan) and haven't noticed a propensity to CTD. October 15, 200916 yr Doug, the direct procedure is okay. The problem is a flight plan without an enroute segment, for example if you want to set up for local traffic (flying KDAL to KDFW is kinda local but also flying the local circus as the brits call it) you're likely to run into a problem unless you add at least one fix before the approach or arrival runway. Seems to solve most problems. I agree, it shouldn't CTD (the real one probably has an error message) but it does and it is in these cases only that I am aware of. Dan Downs KCRP
October 19, 200916 yr It'd take me as long to do the search as you. As I recall, some have had problems trying to LAT REV from the destination instead of a fix prior to the destination; the rare CTD shouldn't happen but will I guess in some circumstances. The SID fix only increased the space capacity for number of procedures. Don't think anyone has provided information that there is a problem with DIR INTC method in termial airspace. Got a specific problem?Dan,I really appreciate your help. I'm sorry I have very few time for FSX right now. That's why I haven't answered yet.I hope to post the details soon.R
December 8, 200916 yr I've started flying the PMDG MD11 again recently. The CDTs are still apparent but I'm noticing a pattern. They seem to occur if the aircraft doesn't follow a complete SID to enroute. If you try to divert after takeoff by pressing DIR INT to a waypoing on a STAR it freezes. If you try to fly visual circuits without having a SID enroute waypoints and a star it freezes, even without key presses!Regards,Martin Neep
December 22, 200916 yr Is PMDG looking at this or are they pretty much done with the MD-11? I can sit for a few minutes doing DIR INTC to different waypoints on the flight plan and I'll eventually get a freeze. I don't think it's waypoint specific, either, as I've gotten crashes at waypoints at a variety of locales. (FSX version) -Alex
December 22, 200916 yr I recently purchased the MD-11 for FSX and have been having this sort of issue as well. I have not been able to see any related patterns as to when it happens, but it tends to happen either right after take off or right before approach. In fact I was just finishing a quick flight, and locked up right before approach (which was extremely frustrating). I am running on Windows 7 x64 with FSX running SP2. I do have DX10 preview enabled, but after reading this thread that does no appear to be the cause. Are there any other suggestions that can be made to fix this? I really hate feeling like I'm making a gamble every time I want fly the MD-11 especially when I paid a good amount for it.

Why do you use DX10 preview? It is pretty broken and has a bug list a mile long. To each their own of course, but for me it's terrible and my hardware/software are above average I would say. Just curious is all. Thanks,EDIT: For the record, I have done a lot of tweaking of my FSX installation over the last couple of months and have had several complete reinstalls (Over 37GB). And for the 1st time am also experiencing these freezes. Since I have only seen it this time and not my last couple installs, I have just contributed it towards one of those strange windows hiccups, possibly during installation. I wish there was a way to create log files for all of my addons including FSX. Some in verbose mode would be great also. i9 10920x @ 4.8 ~ MSI Creator x299 ~ 256 Gb 3600 G.Skill Trident Z Royal ~ EVGA RTX 3090ti ~ Sim drive = M.2 2-TB ~ OS drive = M.2 is 512-gb ~ 5 other Samsung Pro/Evo mix SSD's ~ EVGA 1600w ~ Win 10 Pro Dan Prunier

I was only using it as I was trying to get the most out of FSX visually before jumping into aftermarket addons. I will reload the flight I froze on earlier and fly it without the DX10 preview. Although I don't get the freeze every time. It seems to almost be like 1 in 4 flights I will get hit by it. I'll post back after some more trial and errors. - Jordan Vera
December 23, 200916 yr I just attempted another flight, this time not using the DX10 preview, and I recieved the crash before I even made it to the runway during taxi. I suppose I'll try re-installing again. Though I don't know how much difference that will make.- Jordan Vera

December 23, 200916 yr Well, during the re-install I found out that one of the .cab files I have comes up as corrupt, or that the installer can't read it off of the disc. Thinking back I remember seeing that the last time I installed. Both then and now I just wiped off the disc (which I can see scratches on) and upon clicking retry, the installer continues and finishes the installation. So I'm not sure if that's possible contributing to the issue, seems like other people are still having it as well. Another question I had was, I've seen a lot of talk or writing I guess I should say about FSUIPC. I read a bit and apparently its useful for allowing FS to handle certain addons. Would not having that installed be a possible factor in why I'm getting these errors? The MD-11 didn't specify of whether or not it was required.EDIT: Also I forgot to mention that I was running FSCrew2 for the MD-11. I'm going to try a few flights without it installed to see if possibly it was having any part. The error messages are just generic Fatal Error message followed by a CTD. It never specifies what caused it.
January 8, 201016 yr I'm bumping this thread yet again because the bug still exists and PMDG hasn't replied. -Alex
January 17, 201016 yr Cracked It!!!Although I haven't found a fix or solution to this problem (as I don't believe there is one) I think I have found the cause. The problem occurs when entering a cost index or by hitting DIR INTC but specifically only causes a "freeze" when the 'top of climb' is calculated to be above the end of the last waypoint in the flight plan. It also occurs if you try to divert to an alternate in the climb phase and select a STAR that will prevent the aircraft from reaching cruise ALT. It sometimes occurs if you enter a SID and then join this straight on to a STAR with no chance of the aircraft reaching the cruise ALT entered in the FMC.Maybe this can be investigated?Best Regards,Martin Neep
June 30, 20169 yr Have we still not got an answer to this PMDG? This has been running since 2009! I have it too. Dave Taylor
