Default Garmin ?

Featured Replies

Hello,For the FS9 Default Garmin 500.While FS9 was running I clicked on "Help" and took the screenshot on the left. All data is shown a normal font. The screenshot on the right my FS9 Garmin. The map view (not shown) has normal font for waypoints etc.I have Italic Font elsewhere.Like on the left side WPT, BRG, CTS etc as shown. Is this "italic font" correct or did I get my fonts messed up?Garmin3a.jpg

Thanks for checking ... verifying for me.Last thing I did was install Windows Service Pack 3 on my Dell WinXP computer. That service pack also messed up my original CDROM (read/write) drivers.!No telling what else it did.I have no idea how to get the original fonts working again in the FS9 Garmin.

The default Garmin GNS500 uses the default system "Arial" and "Courier" fonts.

Fr. Bill,Thanks. Now, if I knew where to put them after I find them ... I think It would work!As you can see, I do not know fonts. But I will Search my hard drive and see where things currently are located.

I found Arial and Courier fonts in a Windows XP folder.I copied them to FS9 fonts folder.See Screenshot of my FS9 Fonts folder now.Same Italics problem.I think FS9 is telling Windows to use Italics font for Garmin 500cannot or Windows cannot find the font correct font, so Windows defaults to Italics.Maybe someone could check their:C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Fonts folder and see what exact file (name) I need?Anyone know how FS9 tells Windows which font to use in the Garmin 500?Like, is it a statement in a gauge or something like that?FS9-Fonts.jpg

Drag and drop the Arial.ttf font file from the FS9\Fonts folder to your Windows\Fonts folder to "reinstall" it to your system.

Fr.Bill,Thanks for the reply.I did do as you said.It overwrote the file already existing in the Windows\Fonts folder.Garmin 500 still has the Italic font.Darn!

You could try renaming your current FS9 install folder to something different and doing a fresh install. Then take a test flight and see if the font is still italic. If it's not then you know it's something inside your original FS9 install. If it is then it's a Windows setting somewhere. It would probably only take a half hour to test it this way.If you do decide to do the above then make sure you backup your "C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9" folder first and somewhere safe so you can restore it later.Mark

Mark,I will save that test for last. The chances of me making a little problem real BIG is great doing that!

Yeah, I guess you're right. I would take that route 'cause it's fast and easy but then again, we're not all software engineers :)Mark

I opened Notepad and selected the Courier and Arial fonts ok for doing a text file. So, at least I know now Windows is using them ok.FS9's fonts are ok on the radio stacks etc ... just the Garmin 500 is doing Italics!

OK, you might want to try this...it seems pretty straigt forward but if feel at all uncomfortable then don't do it.1) Make a backup copy of the "Flight Simulator 9\Fonts" folder2) Get your FS9 Disk 1 and Disk 23) Get Disk 1 and find the file named MSGAME1.CAB which contains the fonts installed with FS9. Open it and look for the following files...arialnb.ttfarialnbi.ttfglassga.ttfmaian.ttfmaiandb.ttfmsgothic.ttcnwgthc.ttfquartz.ttf4) Replace all of the duplicate font files that you have in your "Flight Simulator 9\Fonts" folder with these files5) Still On your hard drive, change folders to your "Flight Simulator 9\Gauges" folder and find the fs9gps.cab file. Rename it to something you'll remember like fs9gps.cab.xxx 6) Now grab Disk 2 and find the MSGAME3.CAB which contains the cabinet file named fs9gps.cab. This is the folder which contains all of the GPS 500 instructions. 7) Copy fs9gps.cab to your "Flight Simulator 9\Gauges" folder 8) Start a flight and post the results. I went ahead and read through the gauge's xml document and didn't see any reference to italics anywhere in it. There still could be some other kind of issue but at least we can eliminate that something changed your default true type font. Also, the XML is looking for the "Arial Black" font as opposed to simple "Arial" and as it appears so far, the string does not have an italics qualifier. The fon't maybe missing in the window font folder but try this first and see if you get any change.Excertp from gps_500.xml contained in the fs9gps.cab from MSGAME3.CAB (Disk 2)----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<Element> <Position X="0" Y="0"/> <Text X="280" Y="10" Length="20" Font="Arial Black" FontSize="10" Adjust="Center" VerticalAdjust="Center" Color="White" Multiline="No" Bright="Yes"> <String>ACTIVE FLIGHT PLAN</String> </Text></Element>----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
