July 10, 200916 yr Hi.I have noticed since digging out my sceneries from Aerosoft some time ago that I now have an additional menu in FS9.1 when I press the alt button. For example I press the alt button to alter the time of day etc, and I now se an additional menu item called add-on manager.I only have this since installing EDDK,EDDP,EDDH from Aerosoft.I did delete the two additional files it placed in the modules folder called VIA...cor or whatever.Does anyone know how to get rid of this please, or where I might be able to find out.I would post in the AS forum, but to be honest it can take ages to get a responceMany thanks for any help. July 10, 200916 yr I don't have any Aerosoft products...but I do have the Addon Manager in my menu bar. It was put there when installing any c9 or FSDT product, and is essential for those products to work, along with the bglman.dll which it places in the modules folder. Sorry I can't be more specific about Aerosoft.Russell.
July 10, 200916 yr Author Hi Russell. It might be the Cloud9 EHAM thats put it there then.I wouldn't call it essential though, all it has is the other products that they do, and check for any updates.I seriousley wouldn't check for an update to the scenery while FS was running !Don't know why they even included it in the FS menu.I would still like to get rid of it though as it is pointless space taking. Thanks for the reply all the same. July 10, 200916 yr I've had the c9 stuff on so long now, my memories a bit rusty, but as far as I remember, you download and install the product, then purchase and activate it through the addon manager. You also need to use the addon manager if ever you need re-install. I think thats correct. Certainly don't delete the bglman.dll from the modules folder (which is part of the addon manager) or EHAM won't work.Russell.
July 10, 200916 yr Rename "Flight Simulator 9\Modules\AeroCore.dll" to "AeroCore.xxx" and see if that gets rid of the addon manager that you're looking at. If not, then rename it back. It won't hurt anything. If it is the bglman.dll that you're seeing then you definately need that for the Cloud9/FSDreamTeam stuff...Mark
July 20, 200916 yr Author Hi Gang.I know it's been a few weeks, but I would still like to get rid of this extra menu item from within FS9.1.I did have the cloud9 EHAM, but got rid of it a few weeks ago, and I am still seeing this item in FS.I haven't got the AeroCore.dll, and anything else that jumps out at me.Can anyone recommend any other suggestions. What I am still seeing in FS is the Add-On Manager, and it has the drop down menu for the Cloud9 up-dates and EHAM registry backupThanks. July 21, 200916 yr WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT TOUCH "BGLMAN.DLL". I did, and I could not load FS any more. I had to do a complete ground up re-install. I would suggest that you get used to "addon manager" and leave it there. You are asking for problems by just deleting things. Use the uninstall features or use control panel to get rid of anything. Don't go through what I went through.

There are a couple of things that I would do to make sure nothing comes up unexpectedly later. First of all, don't delete the BGLMAN.* files, copy them to a safe location somewhere outside of the Flight Simulator 9\Modules folder. Then, go through your scenery.cfg file and make sure that there are no references to any of the Cloud9 or FS Dream Team products in it. If you do find references in the scenery.cfg file, you can remove them or my choice would be to comment them out. The comment character(s) that I use in my scenery.cfg file are 2 forward slash characters "//".Then start flight simulator and see if you get any error messages. You most likely won't but you can always undo your actions since you didn't delete anything.Mark
July 22, 200916 yr Author Hi All.Just an up-date for you.I made a safe copy of BGLMAN.Dll and BGLMAN.Dat first, then renamed the originals to BGLMAN.Dll.Master and did the same for the .Dat as well.I have just fired up FS9.1 and all seems to be just fine. I went to the add-on airports I have by Aerosoft such as EDDK,EDDP etc, and also EHAM Mega Airport.I no longer have the add-on manager in the FS Menu which is great. Many thanks for the suggestions from you all.So, what does the BGLMAN and .dat file do?Thanks. July 22, 200916 yr Someone chime in if I'm misguided here but I believe that there are 3 functions to the bglman files. One function is an anti-piracy system that allows you to demo the products for a short period of time, after which the scenery is disabled.Another function is that it allows you to purchase Cloud9 software via a Flight Simulator interface...why, I'll never understand. I personally think it's smoke and mirrors to disguise their anti-piracy effort as something useful for the end user, but that's just me.The last function, (at least it used to be there), is Cloud9's own version of "Active Gate". It moves jetways to your aircraft when parked at specific parking bays in their sceneries. I never use it because I fly GA aircraft mostly so for me, it's a waste of FPS and a potential CTD.I don't need anti-piracy or buying software though the Flight Simulator application. I think that's ridiculous personally, but that's the Cloud9/FSDreamTeam's philosophy. In my opinion, the whole bglman concept doesn't do anything but annoy its customers, (or maybe just me?). As misguided as they are, I do respect their copyright and have purchased legitimate copies of their software on CD...not via the FS9 interface. On an interesting note, I've heard rumors recently that FSDreamTeam was so concerned about spam on their web site, that it appears they actually removed New Zealand's ability to access it! They have got anti-piracy on the brain and we're being enlisted to enable them by hook or by crook.Mark
August 11, 201015 yr Commercial Member Another function is that it allows you to purchase Cloud9 software via a Flight Simulator interface...why, I'll never understand. I personally think it's smoke and mirrors to disguise their anti-piracy effort as something useful for the end user, but that's just me.To be able to purchase inside Flightsim, has the following advantages:1) By purchasing inside Flight sim, the scenery will be active IMMEDIATELY, without waiting for an email receipt to arrive, and without obviously waiting for a download link, because the Trial version is immediately unlocked without downloading anything extra.2) By purchasing inside Flight sim, there will be no need to insert a Serial Number, because the serial number is passed from the server through Flight sim immediately and automatically while purchasing. You don't have any idea how many emails we get from users, every day, that can't activate the product (so they lose valuable time doing this), just because they typed the Serial wrong. Those are all users that purchase via the Web page, of course. Purchasing inside Flight sim bypass this problem entirely.3) By purchasing inside Flight sim, the user will be able to activate the scenery even if he inserted his email wrong, or if he inserted an old email he doesn't have acces anymore, because the activation is not tied to having received an email or not. We get lots of emails too, from users that order a product with a different email, sometimes don't even remember which one they used, but this is not a problem if they purchase inside Flightsim, because the product will activate without the need to receive that email.4) By purchasing inside Flight sim, the user can't risk not being able to activate the product (not at least without emailing suport for help), because some anti-spam along the way, blocked his email receipt. The last function, (at least it used to be there), is Cloud9's own version of "Active Gate". It moves jetways to your aircraft when parked at specific parking bays in their sceneries. I never use it because I fly GA aircraft mostly so for me, it's a waste of FPS and a potential CTD.First, you shouldn't dismiss a function and question the utility of the Addon Manager JUST beacuse you don't use that specific function, without even mentioning the fact that most of the Cloud9 or FSDT sceneries, are strongly oriented towards the airliners crowd, so having an active gate might be something useful to them. Also, that's not the ONLY function the Addon Manager does beside protection, in addition to the Active Gate, it also offers also the following services to the sceneries:1) Information about weather conditions and temperature on the ground (not possible with FS9 SDK), so the scenery can display special textures or different objects depending on Time of the day, weather, temperature. In Cloud9 ENBR and FSDT Zurich, for example, ice blocks appears on the taxi/runways sides, only in winter, and only when the temperature is freezing.2) Detect the airplane type automatically, without having to revert to unrealistic (and cumbersome, if you are taxiing) use of the Com radios to tell the airplane type, in order to activate the Docking system panel. 3) Detect the front gear position of the airplane, and pass it to the scenery, in order to allow precise parking at the Docking system. This was used at most Cloud9/FSDT sceneries that have a docking system.4) Read AI informations and check if a parking gate has an AI parked there, and displaying ground service vehicles only in that case, and having them disappear, when the AI start to move. This was used extensively at EHAM, for example.5) Provide sceneries with Events that can happen at specific dates, days of the week, or randomly with a probability percentage, and this can trigger some animations, so they doen't always happen or happen at specific times.6) Provide "Flying tips", which was a function used by all Cloud9 airplanes (F104, MB339 and Phantom) to provide useful info while flying, to alert of several conditions which were unique to that plane, like alerting the user of special failures that are not handled by FS9.7) And of course, the most important feature is: the Addon Manager ALLOWS FOR A TRIAL VERSION!!!!As misguided as they are, I do respect their copyright and have purchased legitimate copies of their software on CD...not via the FS9 interface. So you surely know that, the CD versions use the same Addon Manager, install the same menu, use the same activation and do not work without the Addon Manager, exactly like the downloadable versions. Haven't you realized that, by purchasing a CD version of a Cloud9 product, the *only* valuable thing you have in the box, it's the Serial Number that allows you to activate the scenery online ?On an interesting note, I've heard rumors recently that FSDreamTeam was so concerned about spam on their web siteSpam on our web site doesn't concern only us, obviously. What spammers do, is to register to the forum, and SCAVENGE our user's email (not many users configure the forum to hide their email address) to SPAM THEM, in THEIR mailbox.that it appears they actually removed New Zealand's ability to access it!As usual, it would be beneficial to actually *document* yourself on an issue, because commenting on it, and drawing conclusion. The issue is:99% of spammers, try to shield themselves by usign some kind of proxy, so we disabled proxy access to our site. But it happens there's a SINGLE ISP in New Zealand, that proxifies all its users by default. As long as we got report of this, that block has been REMOVED, long ago, and we replaced it with a forum registration based on approval, so we don't get spammers registered only to steal our users emails, or to simply post to advertize their blue pills, rolex replica and similar things on our forum.I go to check the forum log every 2-3 days, and get about 12 PAGES of failed registrations attempts coming from IP addresses in countries like Moldovia, Vietnam, Armenia, etc. where we don't have even a SINGLE customer coming from so, the Spam issue is serious, and we have a duty to protect our users from it. This doesn't have anything to do with piracy protection, it's exactly the opposite: since we use an activation system that works well, we don't need to limit access to the forum to registered users only (THAT is an effort agaisnt piracy), the forum is free for anyone, which means even potential customers CAN access it, to check the potential issues on the forum, but because it's free for anyone, we need to take steps against spamming. As soon as I restored bglman.dll and bglman_fsdt.dat, the enhancements once again displayed. So on my FS2004 setup it is vital to retain the Addon Manager on the Menu bar. It's presence there has never bothered me at all.Just my 2 cents worth.
August 11, 201015 yr I think it is self-evident, from the number of posts that have been made on the same subject over the years, that a lot of users would prefer not to have add-ons putting extra menu entries into their setup without asking. Those of us who take a lot of care setting our Flight Simulator up do tend to take offence when these things appear, and get even more indignant when we find we can't easily get rid of it. I'm sure Virtuali's points are very valid, but where does it all end? You only need to look at Opa's screen shot at http://forum.avsim.net/topic/292777-addon-manager-flying-tips-option/ to see a menu system stuffed with non-default entries added by add-ons.Every developer only sees it from their point of view, and that probably includes making their products as prominent as possible hoping you will buy more.It would be nice, at least, to have the option to hide all this stuff when not needed . . . after all, in the case of the Addon Manager we only use it once in a blue moon.John My co-pilot's name is Sid and he's a star! http://www.adventure-unlimited.org
August 11, 201015 yr Frankly I don't understand what all the fuss is about - when it is so easy to hide the Menu bar and only make it visible when you need it.All of the items I have on mine are there because I use them - some when designing scenery and some just as utilities I use when flying. Having them there sure beats having to access something outside of FS.It works well for me - but as the old saying goes...."different strokes for different folks".

This rather questions whether people who claim to "use them" actually do. :o)John My co-pilot's name is Sid and he's a star! http://www.adventure-unlimited.org
