July 20, 200916 yr Hey guys.I have decided to purchase some environment enhancing payware addons for fsx. Firstly, i need to decide on something that will improve clouds, water and runway textures the most, i am looking for the best. I have limited these down to Flight Environment X FEX, Real Environment X REX and X-Graphics. I was wondering if it would be possible to run more than one of these at a time. E.g i was thinking of purchasing REX for the clouds and water effects, X-Graphics for runway Textures and Active Sky X for weather. Will this work or will they all conflict each other after installation.I also need help on improving the terrain in fsx. I was thinking of Using Ultimate Terrain X Europe/USA and Canada. Is there any other software that serves the same purpose as UTX and is possible better? or covers a larger area? What would the best scenery enhancer be? Either FSGlobe 2008, FSGenesis? is there any other software that is similar/better?Can anyone recommend any other software that will enhance the visual experience of fsx? Finally i recently purchased Orbx FTX AU Blue,Green,Gold and red as well as many FTX payware airports so i will need all the software i mentioned to be compatible with Orbx.Thank you.
July 20, 200916 yr Personally I run Real Environment Extreme (REX) and Ultimate Terrain Europe (UTX). I can certainly recommend those, because they are both very 'tweakable'. On high settings they can bring a decent computer to its knees, but on the lower settings they can actually improve frame rates and it will still look prettier than FSX as standard. You might also want to take a look at FS Altitude, which kicks in as you climb and gives you photorealistic terrain from 'airliner heights'. It's pricey, but it does look amazing.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
July 20, 200916 yr Hi,You can run REX and X Graphics together. Many do just that. Thanks,I do. Much as I appreciate the hype and furore over REX, there are still many things that X-Graphics does as well, with less of a frame rate hit on my antiquated system. `Sides, you NEED Active Sky X to make all these things work together, as the weather depiction with the default engine is less than stellar. I still think the integration of the engine and X-Graphics is better with the purpose-built pairing, although of course I can't run the super-high resolution graphics that REX permits. Most all these have enough switches and tickboxes to be able to select lights from one, textures from another, and a mix of other stuff. But build it on the weather engine as without it you will NOT see any of these products at their best!

July 21, 200916 yr Author Thanks for your help guys! so i gather that it is possible to run REX+X-Graphics+UTX usa/canada/europe+ASX+FSGlobe2008+ORBX scenery payware for the ultimate fsx experience and nothing will conflict. Also, i usually fly low level VFR and sometimes low level IFR so i am looking for the best looking fsx. thanks.

July 21, 200916 yr Author GEX too?Hmm, what does GEX do that UTX and X-Graphics doesn't do? getting a bit confuzzled. Thanks guys :)
July 21, 200916 yr Hmm, what does GEX do that UTX and X-Graphics doesn't do? getting a bit confuzzled. Thanks guys :)REX is environment that includes sky, clouds, water, runway and taxiways. Great add on.UTX enhances coastal lines, land class and roads. Great add on.GEX: Ground environment X enhances the ground textures. Good add on. X-Graphics: Same concept as REX and am not sure which is better, so to me its a duplicate. But I maybe wrong since I don't have this add on.
July 21, 200916 yr Author WOW! that really clears everything up. I got one last question before i start purchasing these products. Is this http://secure.simmarket.com/oscar-lima-gol...ful-world.phtml ( Osca Lima Golf- What a wonderful world) better than Fs-Globe 2008? How do they compare? Thanks
July 21, 200916 yr FS Altitude sounds interesting. How does it kick in? gradually? at what altitude?I'd check out the videos they have of it on their site if I were you (beware though, they are big files). Basically FS Altitudes takes advantage of the scenery layer system in FS and attempts to fade its scenery in as you climb, the idea is so that you can still use other more detailed sceneries at low level, hence the FS Altitude name.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

July 21, 200916 yr REX looks really nice, would like that as a supplement to ASA + X Graphics.I understand it is possible to disable the weather engine in REX, just use the textures. But is it possible to have REX read the current weather (i.e. not apply it to FSX) and just use it to select an appropriate set of textures - sort of the way that ASA and ASX integrate with X Graphics? Or is texture selection a manual process?
