Usually fs-gs requests from their clients that they not discuss any particulars regarding the service we do on their machines and one of the reasons for this has been dramatically demonstrated here in this post. The vitriolic personal attacks against Tim are shameful.I just spoke to him regarding our non-disclosure agreement and he explained that he was just trying to say "thanks" to me for the service which was performed on his machine and to express his feelings about his 'new" simulator experience and he was surprised and shocked by the replies.I explained that Fs-gs's success does not require that people on these or any other forums agree with why we do or do not DO THINGS THEIR WAY but rather because we adhere to our system regardless of "common" beliefs.Oh and by the way it works. It worked in the past when you called it "smoke and mirrors". It works regardless of you not understanding how or why, it works in spite of your disagreement, it works because year after year our clients return to us when they upgrade or need help after all the other sources have failed them. I myself have encountered this type of personal attack over and over again ever since I started this service and I am well used to this low-level nonsense but this is against a gentleman who had no idea that posters on these forums could sink to these levels. So........................1) to the poster who thought that Tim didn't understand the service I say RIDICULOUS !!!! We are not SOME JOHNNY COME LATELY FLY BY NIGHT OPERATION throughout the service our clients are given full explanations and we only continue when we are sure that every step is fully understood and.......................2) fs-gs service is designed to achieve a balance between visuals and performance and does not forsake either one for the other.Leave Tim alone if you want a fight than fight me. I welcome the opportunity just as I have welcomed it in the past.My clients in general are busy flying FSX instead of whining about it so they don't post here often and when they do they've learned to expect these type of replies.Tim now joins their ranks and once again our warnings to our clients regarding the forums are proved true.Shameful absolutely shameful.Michael Greenblattramsa329www.fs-gs.com

Hello MichaelI have read through this thread and fail to see where Tim was shamefully attacked. All I can see is some forum members trying to offer help and a couple of very experienced Simmers being at odds with some of your advice to Tim.If you as a businessman were really confident in your product you would not let things like this get to you. This is after all a discussion board, where we can "discuss" your service all we want without your aggressive stance and offers to Fight.

I don't wanna fight with nobody. I'm just wondering about this bit of contradictory information...
This guy said the first thing that's going is your D & E drives.Microsoft never made FSX to install on any other drive but the default which is "C" you'll note when you place your install disk in.That's why he said your other drives go.Only a Large "C"(terrabyte) Is part of the smoothness of FSX.
Can you back this up with something?

Trying to get back on topic for a while here, I've started to see something that may be the same issue that the original poster was talking about. IIRC I've also seen this a couple of times in the past, years ago wich completely different OS version and hardware.I'm not talking about the momentum effect, texture shimmering because of bad tuning, the shaking picture that can happen during replay or tearing because of vsync not being activated. It's more like the picure is vibrating, moving maybe 1-3 pixels up and down several times a second. When you're in VC mode, it's only the outside scenery that vibrates, not the VC itself. Sometimes it's only when looking outside the left or right window that this happens, not when you look out straight ahead. It's only noticable when the a/c is not moving and it does not matter which a/c I'm using.I don't have any more details at the moment, I haven't investigated this further as I'm changing gfx card any day now (for other reasons). If the issue remains after that, I will investigate it for real. Currently using win7, i7, gtx260, fsx acceleration, GEX/REX/UTX etc, latest version of nhancer and drivers. It would still be interesting to hear from someone who has a clue about this though.

To answer your post directly, as it at least contains enough information to recognise the problem, the `vibration` is a function of the Mesh settings. You will often find that just changing that setting by a couple of percentage points you change the `balance` of texture loading v. texture placement, which is really the cause of the issue. Imagine a quilt on a bed and someone underneath has their knee raised with a book on it. They lower the knee and the book subsides to a different position, but still in exactly the same place relative to the quilt. That's what you are seeing here as the render engine in FS creates the mesh matrix first, then places the ground texture and finally the autogen on top of it, all of which rely on a trig equation to place them in the right place relative to one another. It might be that the mesh setting being used is asking too much of the computer, it might be it's being asked to provide a rendering level it does not support (i.e 76m mesh set to 19m resolution) or it might simply be that the mesh itself is inaccurate. But regardless of the cause the sympton is the same - FSX has a finite limit to the render distance, and beyond that distance it moderates the accuracy of the mesh to represent the decline in detail with distance. This means that as the image display moves from low to high resolution, there can be some vertical movement in the position of textures and autogen. If the computer is already close to its limits this can seem like a pronounced upheaval, almost like a mini-earthquake. By changing the `balance` of the mesh, texture and autogen you can mitigate the effect.Start by setting the mesh detail to 40%, and work up from there, when the upheaval becomes noticeable either back off the slider or reduce the detail render distance slider (yes, reduce not increase as if the problem is system-resource based that can tip the balance back in favour of the mesh). With a bit of experimentation you should be able to find what triggers the earthquake and simply dial it out.As to whethr this solves our OP issue, I have no idea. But now that Greenblatt is on the case one waits with baited breath for our troubled simmer to report the solution, and for a justification of the inherently unsound recommendation to use only a single drive for FS and OS...

I never yet got hit back to 1024 in periodic checks. I run a strat 30 frame rate with no problem.I would not settle for anything less than good performance.Your sure correct about your sentence..."BTW#2(Whom you mention)Why do you people bring up peoples names?I am enjoying very much thank you!Tim
I use NickN's name because it's HIS guide and HIS credibility that I'm referencing and he's also a friend of mine, so I do not understand your comment. What's your problem? As far as the hit back to 1024 - the fact that it hasn't doesn't mean that it won't - I just suggested that you check it periodically. Personally, I find the 1024 much more realistic. In all my years of flying I have RARELY seen clouds as sharp anhd dramatic as the 4096 sets - but that's MY personal preference.

God you people are unbelievable.Tim's problem was already solved that's why he brought up an old post.He wanted to tell you that but instead you only half read (check for ADD LOL) and that in all likelyhood includes your half reading of Nick N's advice also. I would re-read that section on HDDs if I were you.As to the post that explains how my business would be better served if I were to remain quiet (how would you know unless you do what I do) These posts actually help to clarify to my clients and potential clients the reasons that their experience will work and has worked.Every time one or more of you goes off my business grows and my client list grows. So really I owe you a thanks in a weird convoluted sort of way. Fs-gs tests suppositions that we see proposed by others and when we see a performance benefit we inform our clients and advise them on how to proceed. If we don't see a performance benefit (as with dual drives unless certain requirements are met which may not be either cost or resource efficient enough for our clients and may unduly complicate later add-on installations beyond what is necessary.........we have to balance resource efficiency against cost ie....money could be better spent in other ways) than we check to see if there is a stability or other usage benefit (make life easier) for our clients. However If the complications which could arise (not everyone is adept at handling computers and installations and some add-ons require certain conditions) outweigh the benefits then we will advise our clients individually (not enmass) according to their computer knowledge, their needs, their desires and their pocketbooks!Which is why after all these years we are still in business and keep adding successful and happy simmers to our client list.AND YOU DID ATTACK TIM AND HE SAID SO AND HE SAID HE DIDN'T LIKE IT but you're so busy smelling your own importance you don't even recognize it.Not the first time and I'm sure it won't be the last.Michael Greenblattwww.fs-gs.com

I say names should not be used because of competition and the respect of others.Ok......if you want to use names here goes. Nick is a great man and I told him that.He has helped me countless times and very promptly and I stand by that. My intent was not to brag and compare one individual to another or bring things out in the openabout who's work or ways are better than the other by acknowledging how happy I am with my new system.I guess I should have not shot myself in the foot by telling all the people here how happy I amand about certain things/ways this man I hired did in detail to my computer. I'm sure all the forums have seen this topic and I'm sorry & ashamed of ever contacting Nick again.I'm sure there's others as well that now see me as a crazy man. What I did,I did for myself and I paid the business it's fee's.This company told me exactly step by step exactly what was going to be done to my computor verbally followed by a legal contract. This company never as what was said earlier by someone that I was "sold & confused" Let it be known that this man was one of the most honest individuals as he progressed through his work and along with me bringing in a computer man two times to work in the biostaking instructions from FS-GS because I could not do it.I hope this finally closes this topic.Tim Diamond,Canada

Oh and i forgot about this one"There's a sucker born every minute"Very creative and wisely thought out reply probably coming from a well developed source. Typical of these open, democratic and even-handed discussions that we all so love and respect concerning important issues.Just the type of passive-aggressiveness that you use. Like calling me by my last name "Greenblatt is on the case". Classic passive aggressive techniques laughable really. You are calling every one of my clients past or present a sucker who doesn't know what you know or doesn't understand what they do with their money or are unaware of their sims.Including pilots, computer techs, network admins, system admins developers etc etc etc.Unreal just unrealAre you sure they don't include some of your favorite people?Michael Greenblattwww.fs-gs.com

Tim Diamond is as usual a source of mucho entertainment is this silly and sometimes awfully boring Sim World!Check out some other forums where people are standing on their toes and doing headstands just to help him out, and the thanks they usually get are arrogant and stupid wisecracks!Me is feed up, and won't help the guy either here or there.I know that the most stupid questions actually are those that help the rest of "The Audience" - but not in this case, they ARE too stupid, sorry...Go figure it out yourself OK?

Maddog.Hi,Tim here. You never saw the thread as it was removed from the topic quite fast

Tim,The more you reply, the more you will generate responces from the 'experts'. Just follow Mike's advice and ignore those who can't see the forrest for the tree's and go enjoy your FSX experiance, as many other FS-GS alumni are, me included.Signed:FSGS 'Sucker' for 4 years and proud of it.
