737 takes ENTIRE runway to Rotate....

Featured Replies

Steve,I'm back. Give me two more pieces of information and I'll get to work. What were the winds and fuel load/distribution on the day in question? Thanks,JoeM

Not too short for 100's of Southwest 737's that come and go each day! Like I said, the runway wouldn't matter at an airport that can handle commercial airline traffic.
Try more flaps. Flaps 5 is not very much. I don't know what the flap settings would be, but in the neighborhood of 15 would be more appropriate.Bill

With a suffcient light weight he could lift up even with Flaps 1 on that runway.
With the weights he's given, absolutely. I've taken a 737-800SFP off of 6500' at near MTOW.If the N1s are in the 95% range, he should have no problem accelerating to Vr. The poster stated that it took the entire runway to get to Vr, so it doesn't sound like a trim/flight control issue.
What was your flap setting?Bill

Since he's runing out of RWY, more flaps will normally shorten the T/O roll. Bill

What was your flap setting?
Very good point - F25. And the pucker factor went up a notch watching the trees at the end of the rwy slide not too far below the nose.Maybe it's a simple performance issue.

Can the PMDG 737 engines be derated? Like FLEX in the md-11? If so, that's something to look into.Blake

I've been following this thread, it's very interesting :( and intriguing. All that can be suggested has been above and I find it very difficult to point out a solution with the info the OP has posted of his aircraft config. Maybe a panel screen shot on take-off roll will help...?

I find that all of the previous posts point out some valid points to check out for solutions to the problem. I also noticed that you are using the paid version of fsuipc. My first question would be, are you using a throttle quadrant to set engine power? With the rig you have posted, it would seem to me that you do.My next question would be did you disable joysticks in the simulator setup menu? With that question in mind comes the third. Did you set axis and calibrate the quadrant using fsuipc? There are times when the calibration falls out, and needs to be recalibrated. This could be a possible cause for the need of fiddling with the throttles to maintain engine speeds which pretty much answers my first question.Last but not least, is your quadrant old enough that it may be wearing out? I don't use Saitek equipment, but I have had a problem with CH equipment on one occassion, and have read posts of others experiencing a problem in that regard as well.Below is a file that is an excellent tutorial on fsuipc and how to make assignments and calibrate axis information.fsuipc-guide-v1.zipI can't remember where I found the file but I am pretty sure it was either on AVSIM or Flightsim.comIt seems to me that this was the only issue that has been neglected in previous posts, so it might be worth a try.John

Hi, here's what you can try:1. Redo the basic 737 NG tutorial flight2. Use a checklist when you fly to make sure all is set before takeoff-i.e. that would include trim, hydraulics, etc.3. Check in the FS fuel and payload that your Fuel loads are not too high.4. Why would you want more than 96.1 power? That's actually quite a lot.5. If you are taking off a short runway, use the brakes and maintainthe aircraft on position as you advance thrust levers to about 40-60%.-When that is done, release brakes instantly and set TO/GA.This is the trick real pilots use for a very fast accelerating takeoff in a short runway.6. Other than that, I can only advise you check the Takeoff page in the FMS.James Woodluk

this topic really makes me miss the NG series. I kind of want to install FS9 just to go back to her

This info seems to be the best so far. I am looking into the calibration now. That could be it since I can get the power up higher by wiggling the throttle quadrant. It is CH Products and it is relatively new---just purchased in December. However, the ENGINE 1 & 2 levers are much looser than 3 & 4 even though we do fly the 747 some too. This is NOT a weight, flaps or CG issue. I have flown enough to know how to set these for takeoff! If I was doing this incorrectly, it surely would be the same issue in other planes. It is not. Just the PMDG 737. I have now read in another thread that the thrust level in the cfg file may not be reading correctly between FS9 and PMDG. FS9 is thinking it should be one way, PMDG is telling it something else---if that makes sense.I am not gaining speed fast enough to get to Vr. I can rotate once I get to Vr but it's usually after I have run off the end of a runway, through a field, passed some houses and between some trees.

Hey Steve,I've been using this product for a very very long time (as have many others), and I've never experienced the problems that you mention. That is why most people are asking you to verify bits of information and provide more where there are clearly gaps. Until you provide all of the required parameters, no one can truly replicate what you're trying to do and tell you whether there is a product issue or pilot error. You provided most of the information in this thread except fuel and flaps (two of the most important parameters), but let's just baseline a scenario that you can't get to work. Please provide the following information (I'm sure someone will scream at me if I miss anything):1. Aircraft Type (600,700,800,900)2. ZFW3. Fuel Weight4. Trim5. Flaps6. Weather conditions7. N1 and V-speeds provided by the FMC8. Any de-rate and/or assumed temperature9. Airport/RunwayI have topcat which provides numbers for the 737-800. If you're having problems with that aircraft, then that may be the best type to start with. Otherwise, we can do some subjective analysis on another type. When you provide ALL of the information, then we (forum members) will be able to help you.

I think I did give all that info:1) Model: 7002) ZFW: 1023243) Fuel per FMC: 46.04) Trim: for takeoff, in the green 5.5 units5) Flaps: 56) Weather: Clear, 75

12R is only 7500 feet, at 75* you're above ISA, which means the air is going to be thinner.......meaning the density altitude at KHOU will be "Higher"the 737 isn't a Rocket. 150,000 pounds of airplane, vs 45,000 pounds of thrust, trying to get to 127 knots......in 7500 feet. Not going to happen all that easily, that's a sitsituation where you would need to "Check the numbers" in the Performance charts to grasp an idea whether or not you can get off the runway. In Laymen's Terms, You're Too heavy, Shave off 20,000 Pounds of fuel *At Least*.8,000-9,000 feet minimum would typically be a value for your given weight.
I understand all you are saying. It's just can't be correct however.I watch SWA everyday takeoff from this runway in 90
