August 18, 200916 yr Many thanks for your, It seems alot of work has gone into this which makes it well worth the wait,Piran.
August 18, 200916 yr If you forget, you'll find yourself on the runway with RPMs at 100% and unable to generate more than about 35% torque.I've done that more than I care to admit. :(
August 18, 200916 yr Author J41 torque problem ? What torque problem ?Huh ?VangelisSorry if the title was confusing. ;-)It's odd the people over at Digital Aviation wasn't able to fix this though, as far as I know they make very realistic planes. August 19, 200916 yr Commercial Member The start up sequence is completely custom. Numbers and time to stable engine will also slightly vary every start cycle. You can burn the engine too :) (optional...)When you get the plane you can go to youtube and search for J41 start videos. August 19, 200916 yr Commercial Member When you get the plane...when can we expect to take delivery? Best regards,Robin.
August 19, 200916 yr I've done that more than I care to admit. :(Mike, how does one accomplish the power lever aft move from the simulator? Do you use a mosue click on the throttle quadrant or do you hit F2? I ask, since my throttle lever (CH) doesn't do reverse thrust (at least as far as I've been able to figure out).Doug Doug Orvis PP-ASEL-IA (USA), Based at KHEF Picture courtesy of Kyle Rodgers

I ask, since my throttle lever (CH) doesn't do reverse thrust (at least as far as I've been able to figure out).Doug, since you're using CH throttles someone else could answer this better than I can. I think some of the beta members have set up their CH throttles up using FSUIPC so you can use them only, but I don't know how you'd go about doing so as I don't own them.As for me, I just use F2 to move the throttles back, but I don't have CH throttles or anything, just a basic joystick with a throttle on it.
August 20, 200916 yr Best solution to that is to get a set of Saitek throttles that have a detent below that acts as a button - just slide the throttles below it, assign that to reverse thrust and you're good to go. David V

I ask, since my throttle lever (CH) doesn't do reverse thrust (at least as far as I've been able to figure out).Doug,I use the payware version of FSUIPC, which allows me to configure the controllers. For the power levers, I pull them all the way back, then bump them up a smidge before clicking on the set button, to ensure that moving the levers to the physical stops gets me full aft in the sim. I move the levers to the detent, then pull them a tiny bit OUT of the detent, aft, and click set again for the aft center setting. I push the levers a tiny bit forward of the detent for the next setting, and this gives me assurance that the levers in the physical detent are going to be at the idle position in the sim. Finally, I push the levers to the forward stop, then pull them back a small amount before clicking set, to ensure that when I push the levers all the way forward, I'm getting full travel in the sim.I use the same technique when setting the prop levers and condition levers. This has worked well for me with all turboprops since I got the CH TQ in '05. I get reverse by pulling the power levers aft of the detent. In the J41, the condition levers in the sim are controlled by the prop levers on the TQ. It'll be easy to remember since the condition levers are shaped the same as the knobs on the prop levers. The development team has been refining the engine model with each successive build, and I've had to recalibrate each time a new build has been introduced. They're doing some pretty neat things with the engine model (stuff no one has seen before) and once Rob tells us that we're looking at a release candidate, I'll post the specifics of my CH TQ setup and technique for folks to consider. August 20, 200916 yr Why imagination? Engines running/prop running - that FS delivers just fine. :(Ah, I'm sorry. I meant to say FS can't simulate the prop being feathered with the engines running. It's shown as completely flat still. Dan
August 20, 200916 yr Ah, I'm sorry. I meant to say FS can't simulate the prop being feathered with the engines running. It's shown as completely flat still. The J41 - or more specifically the Garrett TPE-331 - doesn't feather the prop with the engine running like you might see on a Dash 8, EMB-120, or ATR. I think it's been covered here elsewhere, but to quickly recap, the TPE-331 is a geared turbine as opposed to the free turbine configuration of the PT-6. In order to reduce drag, the props are started (and therefore, shutdown) at flat pitch. The props are held flat by mechanical start locks that prevent the prop from feathering as propeller oil pressure is lost. The start locks are engaged during shutdown by moving the power levers into Reverse as the props spool down. The PMDG bird does indeed show the props feathering at the appropriate times, namely when you pull the condition levers to FEATHER to shutdown an engine in flight, or if you forget to pull the power levers into reverse during shutdown, the props slowly feather as oil pressure is lost.Fear not. The engine and prop simulation is very robust and accurate.Nick

I was specifically commenting on the failure of the FS engine to simulate a turborpop engine (PT6, CT7 etc) running in feather. Dan
