Captain Sim 767 1.1 Out

Featured Replies

The CS757 v4.3 is my favorite FSX Boeing. It flies beautifully and if you have a high-end computer it's a real pleasure to see how much details and work were involved in producing such an addon.Apart from some minor bugs, the V4.3( long-expected though) fixed all the known issues.I don't own the 767 but I guess it's a good product too.
If these bugs are "minor" (I fired the sim up and instantly found 5 very nasty bugs in the CS 757) it should be easy for CS to fix them. Unfortunately, they know of some bugs since a long time, and they're still there, so I wonder if they'll be fixed at all.The day the LDS 757 comes out, my CS 757 will be history and wiped off my drive, that's for sure.Andreas

David,I've purchased the 757 and I'm just starting to learn the systems and procedures.I loaded up a flight to test it out when I got it and the glass cockpit guages don't seem to display anything but some text. No attitude indicator or airspeed or anything like that. Do you think something's wrong or is it just a procedure thing where I have to perform other actions before they will display anything.Total newbie question but I just want to make sure something's not broken. This is FSX + Acceleration/SP2.Thanks,-jk

No keyboard mapping for CDU,MCP,etc. Autoflight functions is a show stopper for the growing number of hardware users.

You need to align your IRS (3 knobs upper left overhead, turn directly to NAV and don't move for 10 minutes... your airplane that is) and program your FMC to see everything you're supposed to see. Follow the manual, or at least the sticky tutorial links on the CS forum, and I bet you'll get what you're looking for.

The LDS 757 has far fewer bugs than the CS 757. It has fewer features, though. I'll probably wait until it comes out until I decide what to do. If it looks better and performs better while giving a significant frame rate improvement, then it might warrant a replacement for me. But with McPhat paints at even higher definition than their recent Coolsky releases, I have a feeling I am only going to be loving my CS757 more. The 767 is showing some interesting improvements, too, and I expect those to filter back to the 757. One thing you can say about Captain Sim is that they continue to work on their products now. I think they are feeling some competitive pressure, which is a good thing. Does the Quality Wings 757 have sun visors? Hey, look what we've done now!As for key mapping, Captain Sim is showing some interest in this. FS Pax lets me set some things on my keyboard, so I am seeing the value, although I am so used to mousing around it doesn't bother me, especially in a nice vc.

Thanks Tim. I'm starting to follow the procedure in the manual. I see what you're saying. On to the training...-jk

I simply replaced the sounds for GE RR and PW with newly purchased TSS sound packages. For me, these sound files are more aligned with power settings. The engine sounds from the cockpit are still too loud but I can make adjustments. Yes, it cost me an extra $25 dollars for the GE and PW. I was already using a replacement RR package for the 757 Captain. This is just a suggestion.
I think CS uses recordings of real engines, although whether they are separate for each of the three, I don't know. Is there a distinct difference? How hard is that to change? When it comes to jet engines, I'm sort of like U.S. Grant, who said he knew two pieces of music: one was Yankee Doodle, and the other wasn't. I am not averse to pimping out my 7-5/6-7 to the Nth degree.

I have no doubt that CS used real sounds for the 767, but each of the models are aliased to sound.ge so you won't here a difference. Before I swapped sounds I played a few Youtube videos that were taken from inside 767 cockpits during takeoff. I could not tell which engine variant was being used in the videos unless the video identified the specific Airline, then I could cross-reference airline to engine type. On one video you could not here the engines at all, just packs, fans, external air noise...Obviously, different devices were used for each of the recordings so there is no real winner or loser.I felt that I had a better match of sounds from TSS when compared to the videos than I did from the original CS sounds. Maybe the parameter values need to be adjusted because each individual sound file by CS sound excellent when played alone.I almost hate to use descriptors such as growl, howl, groan, buzz, or whine, but these all vary due to many variables and from engine to engine, yet RR RB211 engines sound a bit different than the others. Also remember our ears interpret tones and vibrations differently from one another and we might have varying degrees of response to certain frequencies as well. So what I believe is the best engine sound, could be the worse for a lot of others and vice-versa.Swapping files is just an idea for anyone who would like to try something different than the original setup. My 757 Captain with RR seem fine with the TSS files as well. Thanks for the response and questions.

You might be waiting a long time yet for the LDS 757. CS might be not so hot on the bug front but at least they get the products out there.

Well, we're very lucky that we have fine airplanes for everybody right now or at least in the works. Quality Wings is working on a 757, Captain Sim has their 757 and 767, which they continue to refine for the more right-brained among us, and there's always good old LDS 767 and, whenever it arrives, their 757 which will be interesting to see. I know competition is causing the Captain to ramp up his game, and the LDS 757 can't be a poor second graphically, and we are the ones who will benefit from that.

The CS 757 in my opinion is great! I have very few problems since the last update which makes it a great product. Probably their best. I still can't comment on their 767 since I still have not decided to purchase it. I'm still in love w/ my Level-D!!! I really want to see a detailed review on CS's 767 before I decide to fork over money for another.

I am working on the review, but the patch caused me to tear up most of it and start over. Thankfully. If you're really in love with your Level D, then the only reason to change would be for the vastly improved graphics. Although the patch improved fidelity, I think most big Level D 767 fans would find things to quibble about with the Captain Sim 767. Personally, the Captain has the 767 for me, unless I find some nasty surprises in the new version, but others may get the fortune cookie that says "stay with old wife."I agree about the 757, and can't imagine anyone who liked the 757 not liking the 767, too. They are very similar. In fact, before the patch, a little too similar, maybe. Still, I was mostly enjoying the 767 even before the patch. I am wrapping up some other things before redoing all those long, long flights to make sure I know what was fixed (or broken) by the patch. It's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it :(

So far I have not spent enough time in the 767 1.1 to find problems with flight dynamics or autopilot related conditions. This is partly because I get periodic Crash To Desktop when I try to select a new 767 from the menu. It is fine upon initial load of any 767 but if I want a different airline "Zap" goes FSX. I can switch from 767 to a different aircraft type without a problem. Even better, I never had an FSX crash prior to this. The funny thing about this jet is I love it, I've added payware sounds to it, but I will probably never sim fly more than 1 hour straight in a 767 so what's my point of getting a long-range wide-body? Just because it resolved all the waiting I guess? So far I have spent more time in the galley and opening the overhead compartments than spent in the cockpit.

Long-haul flying is definitely an acquired taste. I, too, would rather spend a couple of hours actually engaged in a fight than put in a full 8-hour day or more flying a very long route with a lot of distractions and other activities. Especially without a co-pilot to keep an eye on things! But I enjoy the planning. I recently reviewed the LROPS guide and learned a lot about that. Checking weather, fuel planning, routes, NARs, NATs, SRDs and all that stuff is fascinating. It does give a feeling of accomplishment to finally land on time after several hours, and with the right amount of fuel. There is a surprising amount of stuff to do in cruise, especially with FS Passengers, but even just making sure you're where you are supposed to be with enough fuel to get you safely and legally to where you are going takes some work. Seeing those long routes on whatever mapping system you like is satisfying. So have you opened ALL the overheads yet? :(

Good point about all the tasks and responsibilities we would never have to do alone in the real jet. I think somewhere maybe Aerosoft, it has been conceptualized to develop a sim for tasks performed by the pilot flying PF and simulate all pilot not flying PNF responsibilities. I do more of the quick turn 40-60 minute flights, with a lot of hands and feet on the controls. The longest flight I ever did on Flight Sim, I didn't even stay in the house while it was running. I can't remember what version it was 5.0 or 98. I turned on the simple autopilot, drove to the grocery store, came back and navigated in a general direction towards Chicago and out of nowhere a bunch of yellow lights appeared as a depiction of a large city. Wow!!! Oddly enough, I sort of dropped the LROPS because FS9 would always crash somewhere between capturing glideslope and touchdown after a few hours of flying. I said no more of that non-sense.

I have dropped long haul flights. I want to be able to finish a flight in one go, and since I don't have *that* much time, I want the flight to be over within two hours. In practice, that's rather hard, because I tend to takeoff at EHAM (Schiphol, Amsterdam), which probably is one of the busiest airports in the world. between taxi from gate and actual takeoff, usually half an hour passes (just like in real life!). So therefor I decided I'm only doing flights within Europe. Even that, though, can give you flights of five hours... Ah well. I like it, so I do it.
