August 26, 200916 yr I'm about to take delivery of my new computer which is Intel I7 975/Nvidia GTX285 based. The machine will initially come with Vista 64 loaded (with a free option to load Windows 7 when released).I have a few questions....1. Which is the best video driver for FSX (SP2) for that card?2. Where is the option to choose DX9 or DX10 within the sim?3. I've read some reports that Windows 7 may be problematic for add-ons. Is it worth upgrading to Windows 7 when available? Thanks for any help.Toni.

I think you need the Acceleration Expansion pack for Dx103. true, but W7 should get better over time
August 26, 200916 yr Hi,Please look in the windows 7 forum (located at the bottom of the forums in this section) for experiences on Windows 7 with FSX as reports are coming in, so long as you're running Vista 64 now you should not have problems upgrading.I went from the 180.x drivers to the 190.x drivers during the update, I was unable to keep my best performing driver for my system as I would only get a "black" screen when starting any DirectX session. I suspect you may have to do this as well when you update - the installer was very specific and indicated it was installing the Windows 7 driver, not the Windows Vista driver even if both appear to be included in the package. Drivers should theoretically be the same as W7 can use all Vista drivers so this may just be a marketing thing. You can select the DX10 preview mode from the display options. The checkbox is next to the bloom options and to the right of the screen resolution list picker in display configuration. A restart of FSX is required when you change modes. Note that DX10 is a preview mode, and while I personally believe it is much faster than DX9 mode, it has some artifacts such as some flashing textures and incorrect light occlusions which presents issues with nav lights and the like. That's an FSX problem, not a DX10 problem.I would definitely recommend Windows 7 for the incremental improvements it provides, particularly speed, although if you ask me, it so far looks and feels a lot like a tuned version of Vista - what some say, what Vista should have been all along. UAC is still there but is largely unobtrusive, and it still takes forever to find stuff in control panel as it was once again reshuffled. FSX works a bit better in 7 than in Vista, but that is all very subjective at the moment given that the O/S may have a bit to do with it, so does the video driver, etc... Bottom line, it works, and quite well thus far.Hope this helps,

August 26, 200916 yr No, you need Acceleration or FSX SP2.I am confused...........I have XP with SP 1 and 2, and I think this is DX 9, but the question is, can I get DX 10 with this arrangement?? I have the 8800 card with a hefty computer, but get a lot of freezes, and now a black screen after 10 min into a flight..........(.this is after installing GEX, REX, UT2, Ult Terraine, and some Genisis landclass programs) .....I will be installing the v7 in a couple weeks, and maybe that will correct some of these operating problems, but wonder about this DX 10 issue.........appreciate the input B42L8
August 26, 200916 yr Hi,you can't get DX10 with XP, only vista and the new Win 7StevePlus a DX10 compatible video card. August 26, 200916 yr Right, DX10 is only a feature of Windows Vista or later. In fact, Windows 7 is DX11.The DX10 support in FSX is supported in FSX SP2 or Acceleration.
