September 11, 200916 yr Thats strange... it tells me I already have an equal one installed and no update is needed. Jim Wenham
September 12, 200916 yr jwenham: you have to get it from Microsoft Downloads, the directx site will not update it for you not yet anyways.
September 12, 200916 yr jwenham: you have to get it from Microsoft Downloads, the directx site will not update it for you not yet anyways.Got it now. Thanks! I must say I see a bit of extra performance with it. A few extra frames and smoother in heavier areas. What do you guys think? Jim Wenham
September 12, 200916 yr Quite possible, I haven't tried it myself but yes DirectX11 will overload the previous calls to DX9/DX10 API without needing to recompile for the new version. Forwards compatibly is key to the way DirectX function calls work.
September 13, 200916 yr jwenham: Had a chance to test it myself... very marginal improvement in frames 5%-10% but it is there. However what is evident is fewer frames are being dropped which is resulting in a far more consistent FPS. I suspect it's got something to do with the updated mesh libraries. So yeah a few extra frames :)

So yeah a few extra frames :)By now the placebo effect would have worn off and I still agree with you on the improvements. I am seeing smoother performance when the frames go 16-18 range, ie when landing at EGLL. MS did good on this one for us FSX'ers. :( Jim Wenham
September 14, 200916 yr Hey guys, try this out and see what you get. I have found out that for some reason with this update that I get more fluid movement if the TBM is not set at 70 or 80. Try 30 and 40 and see if you get the same results. Jim Wenham
September 16, 200916 yr I've had two unexplained crashes so far... related to using the menus and the right click view options... anyone else? Price you pay for running a beta I guess:)

September 19, 200916 yr no crashes on my side. maybe you should re-install your vc driverI'll give that a go.. maybe it doesn't realize I've updated :)
September 19, 200916 yr I've had two unexplained crashes so far... related to using the menus and the right click view options... anyone else? Price you pay for running a beta I guess:)That's a known issue with running FSX in Windows 7; copy over the UIAnimationCore.DLL from a Vista installation (from the System32 folder if you're on 32bit, from the SysWOW64 folder if you're on 64bit) and copy it into the main FSX directory. Then in the CMD, type "regsvr32 UIAnimationCore.DLL", that'll solve the menu issue. If you don't have Vista installed, just do a google search for the .DLL. Luke Harvest
