Video Card question for NickN

Your scenario isn't a valid GPU test. Payware (i.e. complex) A/C shift the bottleneck to the CPU. Really simple stuff here...
Tims first tests with default aircraft did not show any greater than a 10% gainand with the payware... 2. Do NOT expect the 5870 to be a miracle cure if you're into the "heavies". The 5870 brings a SLIGHT improvement to the experience in a PMDG 747 or MD-11, but nothing like the large increases in my Manhattan test using a default helicopter.I concur and reported similar results but I also bench side by side on 4 towers and found some differences to what Tim saw that could in fact be driver relatedThis is a MSFS conversation and with that comes the render loads the application presents to users who use FSX for those complicated aircraft.. and the scenery/weather that comes with it tooand YOU are grasping at straws now.. Forget it MaxEnjoy the thread.. you can teach everyone else what you dont know

No.
GTX 285 (factory overclocked to 702MHz): average 36.67fps , minimum 22fps , maximum 63 fps.Ati 5870 (stock clock, 850MHz): average 51.347fps , minimum 31.5fps, maximum 68.5fps.
You.Are.Wrong.

And this is the only logical conclusion to reach. Complex aircraft are CPU-bound.

Thanks for the update.

Where do I start here... I know, how about the fact that applications do not "present 'render loads'" to users, but rather to hardware. Then there's the very concept of user-defined settings which totally invalidates your premise of "complex A/C, scenery, weather, etc." as an average case.

Your ego won't let you quit this thread, as you've demonstrated several times now, despite being very clearly wrong.

Max shut up and go away for a while, give us all a break. You flood this forum with ignorance. You're a gas bag and the more you try to dig yourself out of the hole you've made the more everyone knows it.Now... :( !!!!-jk

Max,I can't take it anymore. You are starting to annoy the begeezus out of many here at AVSIM. Please step back, give it a long hard thought, and give it a rest for a while.Regards,Bob

No Max, you still don

Ah yes, the classic ploy of the defeated egotist."I'm leaving and I'm taking my toys with me too."Next thing you know will be a petition to ban me :( Nick, you can run your mouth all you want but the numbers don't lie. What an ego! To think you could somehow disprove math with mere words.

What are we arguing about anyway? 1st generation tech sucks 95% of the time and if you enjoy getting ripped off by all means go ahead. Anyone with 2 cents worth of common sense will wait it out anyway...

I apologize for comments to Nick.I stand by my first post, in which there are no personal remarks.

In that I would appreciate it if you would not continue these post stunts where you attempt to pit your "look it up on the net" PC Tech knowledge against my 45 years as a lead engineer because your ego won

Uhmm you aren't applying ENGINEERING there Nick.. last time I checked Engineering along with the rest of the Sciences go based on empirical data... not the rationalizations of a so called expert! We stop doing that oh about the beginning of the 19th century...

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!And I will be the first to admit.. I am horrible at engrish especially when I am just getting up and on the first cup of coffee and of course you are correct :(I did have several others confirm my findings but of course none of those are verified by organized sources for documentation.. dont think you will find any for "Flight Simulator" :( I should have worded that differently and have edited the statement.

Oddly enough I'm a mathematician/coder by trade, and I'll be the first to admit how useless so called "theoretical" limits are. Best Case, Average Case, Worst Case... I think you left out a negation in one of the posts above but yeah nobody in the CS arena would ever focus their efforts on a Best Case scenario.. perhaps I could arrange my books using a binary search tree, try doing that with the Library of Congress. What's that saying "failure to see the tree from the forest" :)

Are there better measures of a video card than frame-rate for MSFS (either version)? Seems to me that the software can run well for many of us (I'm only on FS9) at frame rates from the teens to whatever. There should be more factors that are included to really measure a GPU such as how fast it can communicate with all other components or the likes...you get my point I hope. I know FS is CPU bound, so with that point in mind, does other than GPU speed matter?

Hoping For CAVU --- Chris

Really Nick? That's who you are, huh?K. I won't talk *TO YOU* anymore. I will, however, correct your b.s. every chance I get, because you are full of it. BTW, the thread you referenced WRT over-heating never had a resolution posted by the O.P. Every technically knowledgeable person to whom I've posed that question agreed with my methodology over yours.

If this were a civilized debate, I would actually be interested. Could we please get back to the topic at hand? I am very interested in seeing what results people come up with regarding the new ATI video card. Thanks!
