October 6, 200916 yr With FSX and a Windows XP Pro. 32 bit Operating System I have used FSX.exe.limited.bat just about ever since it was called to my attention and noticed no significant issue. It did not peg out on my setting, but did cycle pretty close to it with no drastic variations.Recently I upgraded my system and included a Windows XP Pro 64 bit Operating System. Don't know for sure, but this is the only real difference of which I am aware that might account for the following strange behaviour:Set to limit frame rates @ 30 FPS (with FSX.exe limited), everything starts off fine and frame rates pretty well are nailed at my setting. However, even in a relatively short flight the frame rates decay until upon reaching my destination they may be down to as low as 6 or 7 FPS.If I simply startup FSX, with or without AlacrityPC.exe and without FSX.exe.limited from most origins to most destinations I maintain framerates of somewhere between 40 and 60 FPS depending on the complexity of the area with no noticable reduction in FPS. In fact, it goes up significantly at my destination if it is a less complex situation.Following Nick's advice to use this program if it helps, forget it if you don't need it makes this somewhat academic as flight is smooth as silk, but I am curious relative to this new issue.Any thoughts or idieas?Respectfully:RTH
October 6, 200916 yr Not sure what the problem could be. For what it's worth I have XP64 pro, and use the limiter without issue. I use Gamebooster to disable services while I sim, and also use Nick N's recommended settings. -Scotty
October 6, 200916 yr You do know that pressing F10 or F11 will change the set FPS while in FSX. That may be causing the drop you are seeing if you are pressing one of those keys alot while flying. Jim Wenham
October 6, 200916 yr Author Interesting!I do in fact press F10 and F11 a lot, but I see no reduction in frame rates by doing this if I just startup with the default FSX.exe, or with AlacrityPc (without fsx.exe.limited). However, I will try a flight with fsx.exe limited without touching anything and see what happens. Maybe the keys have a direct relationship to the issue with that program.Scotty: I also absolutely use Nick's recommended setup. It is a lifesaver. Thanks for the replies.RTH You do know that pressing F10 or F11 will change the set FPS while in FSX. October 6, 200916 yr Check out the readme file that came with the limiter. It describes which keys do which in relation to the FPS. Jim Wenham
October 7, 200916 yr Check out the readme file that came with the limiter. It describes which keys do which in relation to the FPS... also check the key effect on your system. In my case, the keys differ from the documentation.F11 and F12 are actually the keys that lower / raise the fps value. Bert
October 7, 200916 yr I think you answered your own question... with a i7 rig I see no use for that tool whatsoever
October 7, 200916 yr Same here. None of those tools do anything for my sim and I don't even have an i7.Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
October 7, 200916 yr I'm gonna add to the agreement of not using the FPS Limiter on an i7 system. The only thing I have found that the FPS limiter is good for with an i7 is to induce stutters.
October 19, 200916 yr Author Thanks everybody for the replies.Nick, Bobby, and Sarge; your advice is heeded! Frame Rate Limiter is forgotten. It was more of a curiosity thing anyway as I never saw the reduction with my older system. Frame rates do wander around a great deal on unlimited anywhere from the 30's to well over 100 depending upon how severe the conditions are (ASA bad weather, airport density, and a complex bird), but I have not been able to determine that it affects anything visually. flight is smooth as silk anywhere with anything.Happy Flying all:RTH
