How can I disable UT2 from starting?

I want to test something, but I need to get UT2 from starting up. I know that I can either adjust the UT2 UI to display zero traffic or I can kill UT2 in the task manager, but I want to find out how I can keep it from starting when I start FSX. I think I remember seeing an adjustment you can make in the FSX.xml to keep it from starting, but I couldn't find the post with the info. I also asked on the UT2 forum, but it's just crickets chipring over there right now, lol. Thanks in advance.

Don't have UT2, put I imagine it starts either from exe.xml or dll.xml, probably the exe one. These are in your fsx.cfg folder. Open them in a text editor and csroll down to find the entry for UT2. Find this line and edit from False to True as below:

<ManualLoad>True</ManualLoad>

When you start FSX you get a pop-up asking if you want to start.scott s..

That was it Scott thank you . I actually changed it to read like this:<Disabled>True<Disabled><ManualLoad>True</ManualLoad>and now it doesn't start at all or have the pop up. Thanks for the help.

What is it that your testing? Im just wondering as I also have UT2.Jim

Jim Wenham

I'm not sure if this helps but UT has a config that allows you to restore FSX to it's original setting. But, I think you already know this.I hope that helps.

Hey Jim. Well, not much really, but I have noticed a few things since I installed UT2.When I first got it, I though it was the best thing since sliced bread for an AI program. Seemed like I could run it at 100% commercial traffic into even the biggest hubs and not even get much hit on FPS. This was with all the airlines activated, minus the ones that were missing paints, also no UT2 paints selected. Then I installed the 1st patch, which without looking is version 1.08. Since then I am not sure what has changed but I can't seem to run the same amount of traffic at 100% like I had been. I check the assignments since the update and it looks like everything is the same, but something has changed since the performance has gotten worse. Plus since the update I seem to get a lot more pauses for traffic to load. What I wanted to do as a test was completely deactivate UT2 from starting and insert all my WOAI packages and see how they worked.I did it today. I put all my WOAI bgls back in and ran a few tests at KMIA and KDFW, two airports that UT2 had been giving me recent performance trouble. Since I put the WOAI back in it seems like I am back to higher frames again at these two airports and I am not getting the pauses while UT2 loads traffic for the area.I'm not sure what has changed since I did the first update. I never ran the 1.08 update since I had seen some people had starting having problems after that update.I think in the mean time, until the next update comes out that they have been working on for a while, I am going to stick to my WOAI stuff. However, I am going to miss the "Clear approach button" that was useful a few times when I was about to get run over, or run someone over on approach. One last thing that I did notice that is weird is that when I first installed UT2, in the UT2 aircraft folder I had 1968 folders. Now my UT2 folder in FSX has 1989 folders. I'm not sure if the extra folders came from me assigning missing textures to them, or what the deal is. Also I am wondering if the slow down has come from me adding repaints to WOAI aircraft that are external from the UT2 folder. Since UT2 doesn't create a bgl maybe it takes longer for the UT2 engine to locate an external paint from outside the UT2 A/C folder.I'm not really sure whats going on but I am enjoying smoother flights for the time being with my WOAI back. Of course when the newest patch comes out that will fix the pauses for the loads then I will try again.

No I didn't know that. Where is it? I looked in the UI under all the settings and didn't notice this feature, but I am still on v1.08 so maybe its not there, or I am looking in the wrong place.

UT2 has the best ever looking Ai models.I dumped TrafficX for UT2, but UT2 was virtaully causing my plane to stop in the sky as it loads traffic at arrival airport. So now that i am back to trafficx , i notice a few more things that i prefer about trafficx over UT21 - with UT2 traffic gets reloaded each time you enter fsx menu, so for many of us chances that you will have ground traffic in airport during depature are very slim. Since i got back to TrafficX, i notice the ground traffic at smaller airports is more lively.2 - Enroute all the UT2 planes seems to dissapear till you near your destination, TrafficX enroute traffic is far more realistic. 3 - And approach is where UT2 falls flat on its face, cuause you start gettting paused in the sky while UT2 loads traffic ahead, with TrafficX you get a normal non might jerky approach.UT2 is a product with great potential if they can fix it, until then i think, installing this stuff on your machine will only ruin your sim experience. Its all because they opted not to use the BGL files to manage traffic like all other developers do, UT2 has a more dynamic approach to traffic, which messes with FPS in FSX, and even just enetering FSX menu cuases the whole traffic to reload, i say, DUMP UT2 till they fix it.

I agree.Once they get the injection system worked out to a larger radius it think it will be fine.As a test last night I flew the LDS767 from the Imaginsim KATL to KDFW with 100% airline traffic provided by WOAI and really bad weather. Granted at KATL with 100% AI and bad weather my FPS would go as low as 18 FPS at times, plus the fact that there were a ton of go arounds and a backup to take off, the flight was actually smoother since there were no pause for traffic to load. Same could be said for my arrival to KDFW. There was a ton of traffic and FPS would hit 18 at times, but the flight was smooth. I just need to pick a runway that didn't have 5 planes on approach already since I can zap them like UT2 let you do.I think for the time being I am going to stick with WOAI until the next patch.

I second that. I am not happy with the overall performance with UT2 even on my i7 setup. Maybe I'm too pickey about what I consider good performance but it is night and day difference between UT2 and WOAI. Sure WOAI has some issues but the overall perf is better. Hopefully the new SP in the works will get it fixed. IF not then I guess I lost some money for something I wont use. All those saying they are running 100% with UT2 at big airports must like slideshows.

Same here for the time being back to my custom AI which has a better performance waiting for an update...
