Ethan,The very vast majority of photos on GE are taken from Aerial Flyovers, but much of it is old (as you have figured out). Some of it is in much higher resolution than others, you just have to move around quite a bit. For example, in the Ft. Myers FL area you can see some neighborhoods that is shot in very high resolution that you can see thier trash cans on the side of the street. Other area, like much of Ireland, is in a very poor resolution.Regarding the question about any other sims, no- the LJ is the only one that I can afford!

If you want to see the newest stuff then you will have to register at Hangar45.net and look at the FL180 Project thread in the Project Updates forum :-) Sorry! The new site wont show anything but the sim in a much more completed form since Im using it as a platform for a part time business.

I have found that Bing Maps provides much more current photos - it was Microsoft Virtual Earth.

Hey,This is not related to this topic at all, but... Does anyone know when the google earth, google maps, or yahoo maps satilite images are from?!?!? It is so frustrating, I look at airports there so I can decide where to fly. It is so outdated! For example: KBHM/Birmingham International USA. I live here and fly out of bhm all the time. So I know the gates and all that. But it doesn't show nearly all of the gates that are there today. I cant trust it.-Ethan

Ethan, my old LJ45 sim has been dismantled. Although it (the original version) is slightly smaller than full scale, you are welcome to come check out the new sim one day and if you do I will give you my original MIP and glare but it's not so great. But if you wanted it you can have it. You will need your own screens and electronics/interfacing and such, but anyhow.BTW, Im in SE Georgia, looks like about a 7 hour drive! Dont know if it'd be worth it to you or not :-)

Was just going to add that JET45 now is available in parts, so you dont have to buy the entire suite at once. See www.flightdecksoft.com .

Yikes, expensive.
Hi! Well, I would prefer to say it's "not cheap". However, you must take into account that it's comparable to all the other packages for avionics that are used nearly exclusively for full size home flight decks. As such, its a niche market with fewer sales compared to desktop-only packages that require some way to justify the hundreds of ours of R&D that we do througout the development and support cycle for these types of products. Not to mention, when you spend upwards of $10k-$20k on a full size, fully interfaced flight deck, the asking price for these avionics packages are not a very large part of the total costs, especially considering that without acurately working avionics software, the entire project becomes a very elaborat museum piece :-)

Well said Eric.

There's a freeware 2D and VC enhancement on SimScape, adding EFIS and PFD gauges by Ken Mitchell into both cockpits, but the main issues includes the blurring of the lower panel VC textures, and it won't change the autopilot and airspeed/altimeter select buttons, they remained as when they were released along with FSX. The Full Flight Gauges are payware, and are for sale for only 6.90 Euros via PayPal.
