Set up your preferred scenario and save it. Are you inserting the entry DisablePreload=1 under the {Main} catagory of the fsx.cfg? Regards, Kendall 7800X3D/G.B. October 26, 200916 yr I just set up a different default flight, and I'm still getting the same problem.I have checked many websites and I'm 100% sure I've got the right addition:"DisablePreload=1"What am I missing?

Just for a check, enter this AmbientUI=1 under the {Sound} section. This assumes, like most people , the first thing you did upon starting FSX for the first time is to turn off the user-interface music - this entry will turn it back on. If you have turned it off in the UI and you now hear it, you're editing the right fsx.cfg file. Do you have only one fsx.cfg in the proper location - any leftovers? DisablePreload=1 entered in the {Main} section of the fsx.cfg should work. What do you mean by the automatic loading of Friday harbor? Regards, Kendall 7800X3D/G.B. October 26, 200916 yr hi,It is funny because I have the same problem. I added the correct line and does not notice any change; It still takes ages to load. I've got only one config file :( My gallery: http://s1075.photobucket.com/albums/w430/yankeegolf/
October 26, 200916 yr hi,It is funny because I have the same problem. I added the correct line and does not notice any change; It still takes ages to load. I've got only one config file :(You are both making things overly complicated. When the FSX GUI interface loads on startup simply go to FREE FLIGHT, click on LOAD FLIGHT and UNcheck the `make this the default flight` box. Preload has nothing to do with loading straight into a flight rather than going to the menu screen.
October 26, 200916 yr hi,My default flight box is not ticked and FS still takes ages to load. I am talking about the time between FSX lauch and the first FSX window (free flight). Here is what I have is the config file:[sTARTUP]DisablePreload=1DEMO=0SHOW_OPENING_SCREEN=1STARTUP_DEMO=LoadWindow=1Is it correct? My gallery: http://s1075.photobucket.com/albums/w430/yankeegolf/
October 26, 200916 yr Apart from the DisablePreload=1 being under `Startup` when it should be under `Main`, yes.You did defragment the drive properly? Do you have scenery addons installed? Operating System? Hardware Specs? Do try to offer as much information as you can. We are not mind readers! The main reason for long startup times to reach the initial GUI also has nothing to do with preload. Preload is simply the sim anticipating that you will probably want to load the flight that you open the sim with and starting on loading it before you actually click the `OK` button. It does not begin until the load flight window comes up.

I once added it by mistake under "Startup" and it wouldn't work, need to be added in the section titled "Main".Try that and it should work. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
October 26, 200916 yr It seems to me that adding Disable Preload=1 will actually make the sim take longer to load if you typically start with your default flight? Tom Perry
October 26, 200916 yr Moderator It seems to me that adding Disable Preload=1 will actually make the sim take longer to load if you typically start with your default flight?Yeah, I agree. I tried and FSX loads really quick, but then it takes a while for the flight to load once you select all the parameters. Either way, with or without disable preload, the end result seems to take the same amount of time imho. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
October 26, 200916 yr hiThank you all for your replies. I think I will leave it as it is. Honestly, I am a bit fed up with tweaking FSX with no significant improvement, (as usual... :( ) My gallery: http://s1075.photobucket.com/albums/w430/yankeegolf/
October 27, 200916 yr LOL. Everyone is over analyzing this tweak. DisablePreload does NOT mean that FSX will not load with the default flight. It just means that when FSX loads up at the main menu that it will not load all the textures, scenery and other resources for the default flight when you are in the FSX main menu/Free flight menu. If you do NOT have DisablePreload then when FSX loads up you will notice that when you hit Fly Now! FSX will load much faster or it will not even have a loading bar at all, because what it does is it controls if everything loads BEFORE you hit fly now. This tweak is pretty much useless to me because it slows things down a lot and if you set it to 1. FSX will take longer to load when you hit "Fly Now" and it will take longer to get to the main menu after you execute the program.IF you want to change your default flight then in the main menu select the aircraft, airport, time, and weather. Then you can hit "Save Flight" in the free flight menu and check "Make this the Default Flight" or you can load up, modify the position, aircraft setup, etc and then save in flight and check the same "default flight" option.Good luck :( See You In The Skies...gman!"Impossible things are simply those which so far have never been done." - Elbert Hubbard
October 27, 200916 yr Slightly OT with this one but FS9 had a 'previous' flight that didn't need to be saved but just reloaded where you left off. FSX doesn't have that or have I missed something?
