windows 7

Featured Replies

hi I'm planning on buying a new desktop PC and i'm not quite sure if I should get windows 7 (64bit) as i don't know if it causes any problems with FSX or the 747X addon by PMDG ... does anybody have fsx installed on windows 7 home premium ? and can anyone give me some information on how the 747 behaves on win7 ... has anybody experienced CTDs or else? thanks Danps. i know that there's a similar thread on this subject but i opened another one because i didn't find the answers i hoped for...sorry for that ! :(

Several of the pmdg team have W7. No problems reported that I am aware of. The 64b OS should eliminate OOM in this context.

Yes, we recommend running the 64 bit version as it will alleviate the chance of out of memory errors.

W7 can only be run on a 64-bit processor!Cheers, Richard

Not sure what you mean, there's both 32bit and 64bit versions of it...

I assume he means that you can't run a 64 bit operating system on an old 32 bit processor (but you can run a 32 bit OS on a 64 bit processor). So people with old 32 bit CPU's (anyone still have one?) can't install W7 x64, only W7 x32. :( CheersGraham

Yes, sorry Ryan!I can't think what caused me to speak such nonsense. Thanks for the correction.Cheers, Richard

As a reminder, though, if you are doing a "clean install" (which is kind of an oxymoron for MS), you should re-add the SPs, as I think SP2 is the one that allows greater memory usage that's possible with new processors/systems. Random other question: if the MD-11 shows blank screens with green Xs, it means my install got corrupted/de-activated by the W7 upgrade, right?

There are red or green Xs, and I don't remember which one is failure and other is validation. You should have had to revalidate when installing in a new OS.

Yes, you need to install SP2 or Acceleration (not both though) - our planes require it for one, but yeah I think it does affect the large address aware stuff too.

I use Windows 7. I have to say that FSX LOVES it. The PMDG planes that i use (747 and J41) work perfect. I even got faster disk read performance with the x64 version. And slightly better frame rates.Everones milage will vary, tho.

I have switched from Windows XP to Windows 7 64 bit and therefore done a clean install. FSX works great so does the 767 from LevelD and the 747-400X from PMDG. The only slight problem I have at the moment looks like a tracking error i.e. the 747-400X touches down the runway slightly to the left of the center line. I am currently trying to fix this but I have difficulties. I tried the Registry fix to no avail. So if anyone knows the answer, I am a listener. In any case, the PMDG 747-400X runs nicely up to now on WIN7 64 bit.Jean-Guy

Adrian,This is off topic but I just wanted to say your avatar kicks a*$. I'm a big Iron Maiden fan and Aces High is one of my favorite songs. It's also cool that Bruce is a certified 757 captain.
