"Junk" in VC View

Featured Replies

In certain of my installed a/c which do not have a Virtual Cockpit, I'd like to remove stuff like the gear which sit there suspended in front of the cockpit when you do go to VC view (a good way of looking at the passing scenery I find). How would I do this? Advice appreciated. Thanks!Martin :-)

Hello,

Can you give a link for download one of those no-Vc problem planes for test purpose.Regards.bye.gifGus.

This happens when the cockpit viewpoint is set too far back in the aircraft.cfg file, so that the VC view is behind where it should be. This means that you can then see things (like the nosegear) that you wouldn't normally see.So in the aircraft.cfg file you'd see something like:[Views]eyepoint=31.110,-2.00,4.00 //horizontal, lateral, verticalHere, the 31.11 figure means that the viewpoint is 31.11 feet in front of the plane's reference datum (the reference point from which all distances are measured). If this is too far back (which it sounds like yours is) then move it forward 5 or 10 feet at a time by increasing the 31.11 to 36.11 or 41.11 until you get it to where it should be - just in front of the gear in say a 737.Make a backup of the cfg file first.You don't want to do away with your landing gear! Just put it where you can't see it.;)

Thanks both for replying. Yes, that is just what I was looking for - I'd been looking through the aircraft.cfg file but missed the Views bit: feel a bit silly now! Made the alterations and all looks good, no more disembodied views of my landing gear... Thanks again,Martin

Pleasure - I get enough good hints here so it's good to give back.;)

Hi Microlight, These settings work great for altering the VC view..Thank you Can the settings for the 2D panel be set as easily in the cfg?

I think that the 2D view location mirrors the VC location, except that you can't see any of the plane parts or pan the view when you cycle using 'W'.You can however change certain features about how the forward view displays (certainly how much of the outside you can see through the 2D cockpit windows) by changing some of the panel.cfg settings. For example,[VIEWS}VIEW_FORWARD_DIR=7.000, 0.000, 0.000The higher the first number, the higher your virtual seat is in the cockpit, so therefore the viewpoint shows more of the ground.Is this what you mean?;

I,ve seen those lines in the cfg file, but never altered them.I wasn't aware the 1st number corresponded to seat height position.Do you know what the 2nd, and 3rd group of numbers correspond to?Is the number sequence, (horizontal, lateral, vertical), the same as the VC ? I'll play with a few of those and see what I get. I suppose to make the 2D cockpit panel smaller, you'd have to alter the background.bmp, and gauges to match the new size..??Thanks for all the helpful info.Are you the same microlight that goes on the PT chat program on occasion?

No, the order's not the same; the first is vertical, but I've never changed the other two.'PT chat program'?? Nope, not me. :(

The file "AircraftContainerSDKFS2004.doc" explains all the lines in the aircraft.cfg file and about changing them. This URL will download AircraftContainerSDK from the Microsoft website. Run the exe file (do an anti-virus check if you like, but it's safe, from MS) and then you can access the document itself:http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/f...ainer_setup.exeMartin

Great tip Martin,I would like to add that the panel.cfg info is in the Panels and Gauges SDK which is downloaded here - http://download.microsoft.com/download/a/2...s_sdk_setup.exeNote: As Martin stated, these links will download an .exe file to your computer from MS without asking you if you want it. I got chastised one day for posting such a link.Here is a link to the Microsoft Support page listing the download links for all the FS9 SDKs - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555857regards, Joe

Joe,It should ask you if you want to download the file - my browser (Firefox) certainly does. You click 'save file' to download, or cancel. You are right though of course - it's very unwise to download exe files without knowing what they are - even more to run them!!M. ;-)

Panel Cfg allows some interesting adjustments. I use it in setting up multi monitors: to adjust & synch view heights, twist/rotate the view horizons to align across all mons and to adjust the outer views angles to compensate precisely for bezel separation of the views. In addition, it is possible to adjust the position of virtual artifacts in 2D windows such as engine nacelles or window frames etc. They can be moved sideways,up/down or rotated.All vital adjustments when synching multi mons!Alex Reid

Yep, you're correct.Been a while since I actually downloaded any of them and the memory is.....well, you know.Correction: Firefox does ask if you want to download it.regards,Joe
