AS A320 - Just bought - Wow, this is really good

Featured Replies

Hello all,In my opinion this a/c looks very good and works fine. The only problem I have with it so far is its rather 'stuttery' behaviour, especially when taxying, but also in turns in the air. I'm aware that my rig is not high end (AMD Athlon 3200+, 2GB RAM, Nvidia 7900GS), but other complex aircraft like LDS767, PMDG737 and Wilco's Airbus run very smoothly on it, with fps well above 25 (sliders set to medium or high, GE pro and Active Sky installed). The AS airbus shows rapid and large variations in fps, ranging between 10 and 35 within split seconds, causing miniature stutters. As I expected, shutting down autogen and pulling some other sliders back improved minimum fps, however the stutters remain, taking away a lot of the joy of operating this airbus. Maybe I just have to accept that this product is a number too advanced for my equipment.Kind regards,Ren

To fix the stuttering problem all you need to do is convert the VC textures to DXT3 format. This is the same issue with Feelthere/Wilco's ERJv2 which I forgot to mention during beta testing. When you have textures upwards around 4,000kb your going to have problems. DXT3 format get's them down to 1500kb and therefore improving your performance. The Airsimmer textures are located in a separate folder from the aircraft. I wouldn't worry so much about the livery textures located in the aircraft folder but rather the VC textures alone. Give it a try and let us know what you thing. Do a Google search for the program 'DXTBmp' as that's the utility you need to use to convert the textures.
Hey dilloll0,Is that DXT3 w/MIP or without? I always get stumbled up on that one.Thx!-P

Hello Les,Thank you very much indeed for your swift reaction and help. I'll let you know what the result is. By the way, you must have had an early morning on this saturday :( .Have a nice weekend.Ren

Hello,I wonder .. I wonder ...

And some others give as explaination for this problem .. that it's cause the gauges and this will be corrected in the future ....I must admit have not the plane .. it's just what I learn of reading in differents forums. So .. it's textures ? it's gauges ? or maybe the two ?Regards.bye.gifGus.

It's both... Reducing the texture size helps a bit but the gauges are a factor as well...

Hey Les, is there any noticible lowering of visual quality of the VC when you convert this one to DXT?I've not done it as I have a pretty good rig (by FS9 standards) and have had no stutters and very high frames in theis bird, but would be interested to hear if the VC still looks ok after the conversion?Cheers,

Hello all,After the conversion of the VC textures to DX3 (thanks again Les) and a subsequent flight, the conclusion is that the performance in terms of fps is much better, but the rapid variations and the stutters remain, admittedly with a slight improvement. As far as Davids question is concerned: I don't notice any deterioration of the quality. I was considering to convert other textures as well (now that I have had some good training with the conversion program :( ), but reading here that the gauges may also be part of the problem, I think I'll put the bird in the hangar for a while, awaiting developments.By the way, one other thing nobody has mentioned as far as I know: The airbus starts rolling as soon as the parking brake is released and picks up speed very quickly. So the brakes have to be applied continuously during taxy. A bit odd, but I can live with that.Regards,Rene

Hi Rene,Do you have the modified sim1.dll installed? (I may have the filename wrong, but it's the .dll file with mods that gives less ground friction in FS9).Thanks, Bruce.

Hello,Nothing changed from yesterday (still not have this plane)Nevertheless .. I wonder more and more about this "basic" version.I can understand some buggs will appears after a fresh release ...But I read some comments about very trivial buggs .. like the one just in the post above (plane accelerating when in iddle and brakes released)Those are not buggs but trivial negligence or gross error and at least are some lack of respect for the customers .. IMHO..Those buggs or errors can't pass any basic testings and not be seen by the testers.Any freeware develloper can do better. So I wonder if this plane deserve the qualification of "basic" ?Seem's to me more a beta version in the first stage of devellopment.Maybe I read too much ... but in differents places anyways .....Regards.bye.gifGus.

Hello Bruce,Thanks for your reaction. Yes, I do have the sim1.dll installed...Regards,Ren

Hello,

Thanks for your reaction. Yes, I do have the sim1.dll installed...
I have also this modified DLL installed in one of my FS2004 install.Anyways this modified friction don't give me any problems with the planes (certainly not the jets airliners)I have some probs with turboprops .. but this is a common prob in FS2004.I can assure you .. when the Project Airbus A320 is on iddle and parking brakes released .. he go not in a accelerating motion at all.Regards.bye.gifGus.

Further on the taxi speed: I understand that I should remove the sim1.dll file. Have'nt tried it yet. Anyway on the EICAS I see that after enigine start (throttles closed) N1 reads 51% and N2 72% !. Not surprising that the aircraft starts running. Since no one else seems to have this problem, I'll have to sort out whether I'm doing something wrong here or maybe there is a calibration problem.... :( Regards,Ren

Belga, it seems that once some people have purchased a plane, they are much more likely to ignore things if they really want it to be good.

Fred, I bought the AS A320 with my eyes wide open. The developers said there were bugs and there was less functionality than the advanced version will have. They didn't lie. Does it have bugs? Yes, it does. I'm one of the fortunate ones in that I've only had 1 CTD in the week that I've been flying it. I figured if it was a dog, I had a 30 day money back guarantee from Flight1. If not, I'd see what kind of fixes the developers come up with. In the past week, I've flown this aircraft more than any one I own. I just completed a flight where I did a full autoland approach into Boston. The ceiling was 500' with 1 1/4 mi. visibility. When I intercepted the ILS I made the mistake of turning on my nosewheel landing light. I had to turn it back off because it was reflecting off of the clouds. I hadn't seen that before. The approach was just right of the centerline. It was one of the best flights I've had in a long time. For me the immersion this aircraft brings compared to the Wilco bus, outweighs some of the flaws it currently has.
