December 16, 200916 yr Where do I find this? Filename? link?ThanksRJ http://www.fsgenesis.com/Merchant2/merchan...ategory_Code=CAdown at the bottom of the page theres a link to the free Vancouver Island trial download...BTW, when you install this I'd suggest creating a folder called say FSGenesis Mesh, and then creating a "scenery" folder within that and put the mesh file in that scenery folder. Then drop the FSGenesis Mesh folder into your Addon Scenery folder in the FS9 directory and manually activate the area in the scenery library in flightsim. I just find it easier to keep track of what I have installed that way rather than putting the mesh file in the actual FS9 world scenery folder itself...hey, just noticed the "from CYWG" in yr info there 3Green. You from Winnipeg?

December 16, 200916 yr Author ...ah, on further investigation it looks to me like you must at the least have the free patch of FSGenesis' Cordillera mesh for the Vancouver area installed. I just put it in and it is fantastic!Zevious - you may be right! Probably 5 years ago I downloaded a free something- can't recall what or origin- that was touted as I recall, to adjust Vancouver Isl. scenery. Notably correcting shore lines which then was my interest. I don't recall seeing the term "mesh". After subsequently flying around VI a fair bit, I didn't see any particular benefit and assumed it was a mediocre addon. Have no idea what it was and totally forgotten 'til now. Coast mountain flying for me is more recent- last 2-3 years, hence I've assumed the scenery I was seeing was plain old FS9 default!Since then, having added UT and GE, I've presumed they are responsible for whatever improvements there are over default scenery- which I thought I was seeing! Until your post I had forgotten- in any event I never connected it with the term "mesh".------------Perhaps this is living proof one is never too old to learn. Thanks Zevious.Alex Reid

December 16, 200916 yr OK,, what is MESH?RJThink of mesh as the skeleton of FS.Draped over the skeleton, or mesh, is the ground textures, etc.Without mesh our FS world would be flat, no mountains or valleys.Mesh is a good descriptive word if you think of covering the world with a net or a mesh made up of lines parallel and perpendicular to the equator.Where those lines cross, a data point with an elevation above sea level is assigned by the mesh file. FS interpolates, or fills in the data between the points. When we talk about mesh resolution we are defining the distance between the points where the lines cross. The default mesh resolution for most of the FS9 world is a little over 1200 meters between data points.A lot can happen in a box whose sides measure 1200 meters (about 3/4 mile). Mountain tops and valleys get completely missed at that resolution. But all FS sees is the four corners. That is why we like addon mesh. Because it has data points that are closer together so the sim can render something more realistic. For more information go to this link - http://home.earthlink.net/~smgreenwood/resources-g.shtmlThere you can find a text document by Steve Greenwood describing default mesh and resolution.hope this helps.regards,Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
December 16, 200916 yr Author :( ZeviousOK,, what is MESH?RJEver built a model train layout and used fly screen MESH to create the humps and bumps of mountains? The finer the mesh, the more accurate the scenery. Alex Reid
December 16, 200916 yr Author Alex, I don't understand why you have to start an argument in any thread with any subject..it can literally be anything and you'll start one up. No matter what, you always find a way to push your devoted love of your 3 monitors into the discussion, we get it! How about you give it a break...please...for the sake of all of us. Enough about your eye receptors and what is or isnt realistic...just talk the actual thread topics from now on, please?red1- Wasn't aware of "arguing". But I have always felt that conversation & debate was an excellent way of learning. However, feel free to not read any posts with which you disagree.Merry Christmas Alex Reid
December 16, 200916 yr hope this helps.regards,JoeYes,, thank you...Ever built a model train layout and used fly screen MESH to create the humps and bumps of mountains? The finer the mesh, the more accurate the scenery. Alex ReidActually yes,, when I was a little boy...Conversation & debate is good and I've learned a lot. Thanks everyone for tips and links.Alex, do you know what mesh you have installed? Zevious Zoquis thinks it might be http://www.fsgenesis.com/Merchant2/merchan...ategory_Code=CAdown at the bottom of the page theres a link to the free Vancouver Island trial download...I've downloaded, just have not installed yet..RJ
December 16, 200916 yr Author ---------------Alex, do you know what mesh you have installed? Zevious Zoquis thinks it might be http://www.fsgenesis.com/Merchant2/merchan...ategory_Code=CAdown at the bottom of the page theres a link to the free Vancouver Island trial download...I've downloaded, just have not installed yet..RJRJ- it was along time ago- not long after I started into FS9. It WAS free and because it referred to Vancouver Island where I live, I tried it. I recall the expression "trial---", so I would be willing to bet you have nailed it correctly as "Vancouver Island trial ------".It seemed of interest at the time, because it referred to correcting VI shoreline. Since FS9 was fairly new to me, I didn't see any obvious changes and assumed that it was either a dud addon or that, in my ignorance of downloading, perhaps hadn't even got it installed!!!!! (Still don't understand downloading- I just push buttons until something happens. Multi views are much simpler!)So imagine my astonishment when Zevious realized I did have enhanced mesh- but I assumed it was default. Hope this helps.Merry Christmas Alex Reid
