Hello Alex Good mesh will give you more accurate terrain elevation Loook at this screenshot at LOWI and then go there in your sim, notice the mountains?http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=268995See also here:http://www.lawn-mower-man.co.uk/eld.htm
Yes, great pics thanks. But those are narrowly focussed scenes- hence needing all the detail possible. But with a triple wide view, much detail is lost to the brain because the same number of eye retinal receptors are receiving a pic that is three times as big!The receptors just don't pickup that extra detail to send on to the brain. But the higher res mesh IS valuable for single view simmers where the vision is narrowly focused.Alex Reid

holy smokes this is ridiculous. How can you not get this? All your three monitors are doing for you in this case is spreading low detail mesh over three monitors instead of one. Its STILL lower detail mesh. lol.heres one more comparison for you...this is sitting on the deck at Squamish looking at EXACTLY the same spot. Note the difference in the ridge line between the two, and the difference in the water running up the side of the hill...huh? huh? do you see it? :)

I think we all need to agree to disagree. Yes, better mesh is a good thing- no argument: especially when it corrects errors. But if you reduce the lettering size on a chart so as to increase the amount of info, there is no gain if you then can't read it- unless you have a magnifying glass- or merely a single FS view, which like the magnifier, also concentrates your vision! Same reason a pilot won't see a stray oncoming airplane unless he is told where to focus by ATC. The eyes/brain simply don't pick up enough detail in normal relaxed wide vision. You guys (& gals) do the narrow focussing for me- I'm too old!!The End.Merry Christmas All- Alex ReidPS Yes, Zevious, I see the river on the hill side- but when your vision is spread across 45" and 3 different FS views all tightly synched, the goof in Mesh is pretty easy to overlook! It's just one small detail in a very wide pic.

:( :(

...or unless you can fly right up to and in and around said lettering. :(Look at it this way - you are flying around lettering where the "A"s and the M's have their tops lopped off...

Alex just means that in his setup terrain faults, errors and lesser detail isnt so pronounced because of the simple fact he cant see all three screens at once, he needs to turn his head, so at least one screen gets out of focus, and the showed scenery is irrelevant for the details. With one screen, your eyes/head dont have to go much to refocus, so you se it all in one go, hence the increased notice of terrain errors.I think this is simple to understand: you will see a stopped car in front of you, but notice a car way on the left, but you cannot tell if it is stopped or not because you dont look actually at it.Now, Alex just needs to understand that with mesh, the part of the scenery he does look to, thus has in focus, can easily without a big fps impact (remember the slider) be improved. Simple as that. If he wants it or not is something different.Same for textures.I run two 22" screens as one monitor, have a great view and notice the peripheral view a little bit, its nice, but I want more to have the best cockpit feel there expirience, with mesh, and textures.. I want to have it all!Johan

The main thing I don't like about add-on mesh is it creates hills in downtown city areas. I've seen this problem with Mesh that covers Seattle, Atlanta, and Minneapolis. Other than that there's huge improvements in mountainous areas. I have mesh for the whole of Utah/Arizona and it looks outstanding.

Hey where did Charlie Chew (the guy who needs a nic change) go?See his words "I will not try to convince you that my way is better than yours".In the end, who cares who's right or wrong because how you use the sim will be different then the next guy. That said, where did this character "Sesquashtoo" go too? I bet he's a car salesman. With all his posts, I feel like I should be buying everything.... :( RJ

Zevious-Just noticed that your scenery pics, both default and Holger's are quite different than mine !!!!!Here are 2 screenies looking back as yours are, at CYSE R32Alex Reid

I can speak for Seattle, since I was downtown earlier today, Seattle is quite hilly and what you see in default FS9 is way too flat.I like having addon mesh so that FS can more accurately display terrain. However I have many scenery addons that do not work with anything other than default, so I keep my mesh in it's own scenery area so I can turn it on and off to suit my needs. We all have our own opinions about what is right and what is best. And a healthy debate about those opinions is great. To me, what's important is that we all respect each others opinions and not try to force others to conform to ours.regards,Joe

This is default (except for the runway texture).Alex, you have mesh installed. Now, with my default scenery can you understand why my receptors need mesh?RJ

Alex, I don't understand why you have to start an argument in any thread with any subject..it can literally be anything and you'll start one up. No matter what, you always find a way to push your devoted love of your 3 monitors into the discussion, we get it! How about you give it a break...please...for the sake of all of us. Enough about your eye receptors and what is or isnt realistic...just talk the actual thread topics from now on, please?

yes, you obviously already have mesh installed and don't even know it. Chances are if you look in your addon scenery folder you'll find some BC LOD9 mesh folders in there. Unless you have FSGenesis installed...or now that I think of it, Victoia Plus or the payware Vancouver Plus probably have mesh that might cover the area....ah, on further investigation it looks to me like you must at the least have the free patch of FSGenesis' Cordillera mesh for the Vancouver area installed. I just put it in and it is fantastic!
