Wilco/feelthere Airbus Volume 2

Featured Replies

Some time ago, I got my hands on Wilco/feelthere's Airbus Volume 2. Since, I've been doing a repaint for the A332 GE in Air Greenland colors. Yes, the GE variant: Shockingly, Wilco didn't do the PW variant. I have no idea why, but so be it. I still wanted my Air Greenland livery, so I ended up doing it for the wrong engine variant. That was a slight bummer. However, the more I fly these aircraft, the more I come to the sad conclusion that I have no idea how to fly Airbus aircraft. I have been mostly flying Boeing aircraft, and my inexperience with Airbus aircraft shows bigtime. This doesn't mean I hate these aircraft. Not at all! Mloreover, the more I fly them, the more I want to learn them. I used to hate the A332/A333, but I actually start to like it. The mroe I see it on my screen, in the air, the more I think what a handsome plane it actually is. And the systems strike me as ashead of Boeing, but that's maybe because I use to fly the 747-400 and 767-300 (Because I fly the PMDG and LDS, is why :-P).Finally, the more I'm busy with the Airbus Volume 2, the mroe I think it's a pretty good package, and I'm very happy with it. Even if I wasn't happy, I don't think currently there are better alternatives (not with that much simulated. No, I don't count CLS or PSS in here...), either.Anyway, what do you gusy think of Airbus Volume 2?

I wish some more systems were in the package but I do fly them all often. AS far as Airbus vs. Boeing yes there are differences but I have no problems making the few adjustments..I don't like the Airbus MCDU however......I do fly w/ a yoke instead of sidestick.....don't really care for that either. They are nice airplanes however

It's interesting, though, these differences between Boeing and Airbus. See, I have almost no problem getting to learn the JS41 or the ERJ 145, but Airbus aircraft keep eluding me. Is it really that different from Boeing aircraft? It's mainly the A/P I'm talking about. As for the MCDU, I'm not sure, but I think it's not that different from the FMC/CDU IU'm familiar with from Boeing aircraft. It seems to be sort of the same, with some small differences.

HiAirbus a/c in reality is very good a/c not to complicated for flying.Wilco Airbus V1&2 only looks like Airbus, but FMS is so messed up, so my opinion is that You cannot learn how to properly fly Airbus a/c with Wilco. Search a little bit old an new Feelthere forum and You will find lot of conversation and negative critics about FMS, managed mode etc.I won't talk about system simulation, just compare PSS made 8 years ago. PSS system simulation is 300% better then in Wilco.Only my opinionEdin

*sigh*The PSS has its own problems, though. There doesn't seem to be a way to save the panel state, and this is soemthing whih is possible with the Wilco, and the PSS visual model looks rather bad. The sole reason I gave up on the CLS Airbus, was because I hated the VC, and the Wilco seems to be the only Airbus package that gets to the standard I want. Can somebody maybe provide some more info on the PSS A330/A340? perhaps a link to a review?Maybe a stupid question, but is there an Air Greenland livery for the A332 with PW engines? for the PSS Airbus package, I mean...And, is trhere maybe a possibility to merge the PSS and Wilco packages? I'd want the PSS instruments in the Wilco model, in that case.

Egbert: I'm sorry, but most of it is useless to me... The merges are all about either PSS or Wilco and some other model, not merging PSS and Wilco into one thing. The reviews were also not that helpful (actually, right after I posted that, I found a lengthy review myself which helped, but didn't seem to be that critical of the MCDU). However, i'ts ncie to know that there is an Air Greenland paint. In fact, the biggest problem I encountered with the Wilco Airbus, is the fact that there is no PW variant modeled, but in the end I might stick too Wilco. I'm simply not convinced the PSS is better... The fields it excels in, make that its worse in other departments. I think, in the end, we have to wait 10+ years for Airsimmer to release their own A330. God knows when that happens, but I hope it's sooner rather than later. We need a good Airbus, and it seems all Airbuses that are out there are flawed in one way or another. really quite a pity... Is it just me, or does the FS community generally seem more interested in Boeing than other aircraft developers? I ask, because it seems Boeing aircraft that are released, are more detailed and work better than, say, Airbus aircraft.

Why on Earth would you want to merge a PSS panel with the Wilco/FT model? The Project Airbus models are far, far superior in visual quality to the Wilco/FT offering (and they're free). As to the performance itself, both are equally atrocious. The PSS has a tendency to dive like a Stuka dive-bomber and generally performs like a Boeing (no Aribus laws simulation at all, with the exception of Alpha Floor, but even that wasn't done correctly) and the Wilco/FT has significant problems with managed modes (ignores restrictions, descent profiles, etc.) and has occasional LOC/GS capture/tracking issues. On the plus side, Wilco/FT does simulate the Airbus normal law (to some extent, not sure what the actual limitations are).

Cheers,

Mack

I didn't know PA has A330/A340 models, actually... Besides, they don't have a VC. I demand a VC... 2D panels make me feel claustrophobic. I need some space and I use VCs at basically all stages of flight. Plus, I have TrackIR which makes life in the VC great. The planes I have that don't have a VC usually just sit in the hangar doing nothing.Concerning the PSS: Yeah, that's what I thought. Where one excels compared to the other, it fails in another department. I guess there is no perfect Airbus out there yet.

HiConclusion, there is no perfect Airbus, yet ;-).Don't forget that PSS was made 8 years ago, and still is better in 70% of things then Wilco.Personal opinion.Edin

That's true, there are no PA 330/340 models. Personally, I use the payware CLS ones for the A330/340 and PA for A32X. Unfortunately there are no successful merges that include a VC that I am aware of. It's difficult if not impossible in most cases to merge a given panel with a VC model.

For what it's worth, I find the Feelthere Airbus' Fly-By-Wire excellent. A real joy to hand fly, precise and responsive. Apart from the problems already described, both, vol.1 and vol.2, are decent and I still fly them a lot. Better than PSS? No doubt, at least for me. With a bit of planning it is not hard to bypass the flaws in the vertical profile logic of the FMS - the rest works ok. Just my 0.02

Benjamin, I just checked... it used to be in the library, but apparently got lost when AVSIM was hacked. File name was vc_light.zip. I can send it to you if you wish or better still, I should upload it to the library again. Will do so when I get home later today....Regards,Jure
