Web pages not displaying properly

Featured Replies

H. Has anyone any idea why 'non-standard' characters on the AVSIM Home page are not showing properly in Firefox (v.3.5.5)? Even apostrophes don't show - they are all replaced by a small square with FF in the top half and FD in the lower half. The page looks good in IE8, and as far as I can see it's only the Home Page that has a problem - everywhere else I have browsed to on AVSIM seems OK.Martin

Updated the Firefox, but the odd characters are still there. Thanks for the link - it's no big deal and if it is a pain for AVSIM for fix, as the post says it si, I can of course live with it!Martin

None of the Editorial Staff could see this , could you ( or anyone ) tell us the News or Review item that isn't displaying properly ?

The Home page, http://avsim.net/This is what it looks like, from the current Home Page (20/12) - though I am not sure it will come out right, copying and pasting here: the odd rectangle is between the word "ATCsimulator" and the number 2.ATCsimulator2 is the premier Air Traffic Control simulation on the market for the PC.ATCsimulator has been at the forefront of ATC simulation since Feb/2001, and is still going strong.ATCsimulator2allows you to immerse yourself in the mysterious world of air trafficcontrol. This is as close to the REAL THING! as you can get. This is a SERIOUS SIMULATION (er..game)! But, it can also be FUN!ATCsimulator2Martin

I have been noticing this at other places too. I wonder if it has to do with nonstandard characters being used and the way web browsers try to decipher them?

Not for me I'm afraid - the 'R' symbol is only one of several that doesn't display correctly in Firefox: apostrophes, repeated dots (...) and quotation marks are replaced by the same little square (FF/FD). Maybe other punctuation characters too (below) - I can look more closely if it's helpful. Or maybe ytou have better things to do just before Christmas!! :-)Kevin Gibbage Miller. Thanks Martin , i reposted that with the formatting removed and hope it did the trick, seems fine with Firefox 3.5.6.

Sorry to report I still have the AVSIM home page with a lot of FF/FD squares - seems to be apostrophes and speech marks ( " ). Also (from comparing with the same page on IE8), the copyright sign (encircled c), & the superscripted TM (trademark).. maybe some others I didn't spot.
