Copyright Ruling

If I had spent my time downloading freeware and found the EULA contained a restriction based on hair colour I would say "silly b****r" (or words to that effect) and install it regardless. Moving on, the UK Court of Appeal has today published its judgement upholding a criminal conviction for selling "modchips" under the section 296ZB of of the Copyright Designs and Patents Act which deals with devices and services designed to circumvent technological measures. The defence argued that reading a disk and copying onto the RAM of the console did not infringe the copyright because the copy of the protected work in the RAM existed only for a fraction of a second and therefore the RAM should not be regarded as an article for being so intangible. The issue was also whether a defendant can copy a "substantial part" where he regularly takes a small amount of material from the protected work (the "little and often" case). The word "substantial is in the Act.In upholding the conviction, the Court held that "the game as a whole is not the sole subject of copyright. The various drawings that result in the images shown on the television screen or monitor are themselves artistic works protected by copyright. The images shown on the screen are copies, and substantial copies, of those works. .."http://www.lawdit.co.uk/reading_room/room/...nt-r-gilham.htm

What we need is a star trek situation, do away with currency, just make some replicators, and make everything free :(And if anyone thinks that I think I just made a serious remark just there, they are NUTS!Seriously, this is a never-ending debate, and will never go anywhere. It's like arguing politics between a extreme left winger and an extreme right winger, it won't work. No side will give, let's just drop it before the trolls win!

True, I guess I just snapped at the fact that I've seen enough of these threads in a short period of time, that I start to think it's kind of hopeless to try to debate this. Part of me at this point is tempted to make a what music are you listening to thread just to break the pace.

All I know about The Sims is that 13 year old girls use it to practice torturing virtual people. /jokeSeriously though, back on topic: I noticed this on Digg.com:http://www.boingboing.net/2010/01/20/pirat...s-vpn-goes.htmlApparently, TPB is setting up a new service to help evade law enforcement monitoring internet traffic. One thing I will say is this though, I'm sure the NSA will have the encryption cracked in a week or less.

1024bit or higher is not currently in the 'realm' of computing power to crack... by any agency. Unless you're using a specific encryption process that has an inherent weakness. Public/private key-based systems are still the best... especially at 1024bit or higher.

Except according to the FAQ it's at 128 bit. Hence, Crackable.
