January 26, 201016 yr Hi guys, I'm running Windows Vista and i have installed FS9 with everyone's great tips here. However when i start to do a flight and i browse in spot mode i notice a different looking style to the water with black texture...It looks horrible like somethings really wrong. I have a pic below showing, I really hope someone here can help me.I just edited here, the second picture is what i see pressing keypad number 6 to look out the aircraft, The difference in the look is bugging me so much, Will be very very grateful if someone can help me.. Thank you
January 26, 201016 yr picture one -normal for FSpicture two -normal for FSboth have to do with the land/scenery draw distance and visibility. do a search of the forum for some 'hacks' that can increase the scenery/land draw and visibility distances.NOTE: on some computers there will be a decrease in FS performance do to increased CPU load.-- D. January 26, 201016 yr What's your visibility set to? You really want to limit lower altitude visibility to around 30 and upper to no more then 60. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |

January 26, 201016 yr Hello,You have to check the weather options and also the graphic options in FS2004.For better use (or at least a basic use) of FS2004 I suggest you to read sometime the FS2004 help provided with the sim.Weather options are described. It's plenty to learn .. and even you want not go deep in .. you will quickly find the basics.regards.Gus.
January 27, 201016 yr As mentioned, go into weather options, go to user selected, and set visibility to 30 or 50 miles. Post a screenshot with those settings. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |
January 27, 201016 yr Hi there,I remember a heated discussion on the matter a few months ago, here it is, it may be of help.http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=251321&hlAlso, I would certainly recommend Soft Horizons, you should be able to find it in the Library.Regards Onur K. January 27, 201016 yr Basically it comes down to two things:1) Water textures - some blend-in more, some less - there are many free water texture addons in AVSIM library, but there are also payware addons2) Visibility - either per manual setting in the weather control, set visibility to your liking until you don't see this line - it will depend of course on how high you fly (the higher you fly, more visibile will it be), or you could use FSUIPC (payware), which you can set automatical visibility limiting for different situations or heightsIn options don't forget to activate extended textures.Forget about any hacks, they don't help with this issue.
January 27, 201016 yr Pic 1 is really completely normal for FS9!But who actually cares how the earth looks from outa space in top down view? That's Ireland from a "Million Miles" above. When looking out of the plane flyin at normal altitude you won't see this!Pic 2 - don't know what you mean (but I think that's because the monitor here at work isn't the best :( Wolfgang
January 27, 201016 yr Author Thank you, i will try some of these ideas and see if i can resolve it.. I will post a screen shot here and show you if it works.
January 27, 201016 yr I had this problem , difference was, it was on land, covering KBTV. Resolved it by turning off "ground casts shadows", worth a try.
January 28, 201016 yr Author Right guys... I have followed steps here and i think i am getting somewhere, The pic here below shoes a overview similar to picture one at the start of my post. Its not black looking type squares anymore, You can notice a difference... Not too bad though.. what i have noticed is this different looking section is only wherever the aircraft is.. If i move the aircraft further away in slew mode.. The water looking different follows...
