X-Plane

Featured Replies

With the apparent end in further development of MSFS by the ACES team, and with aerosoft planning a new flightsim, i was just wondering, what are the odds of PMDG and other developers starting to support X-Plane. I personally have 0 experience with that sim but from what i hear and understand its a better sim, smoother and handles aero dynamics better. So, is it simply because its not popular enough or are there other reasons?

If PMDG announce the development for X-Plane, then I'm off buying a lottery ticket. :(

Well I was actually thinking about writing this question myself..For some time now my FSX is a real pain in the a**.. > Black/Disappearing textures (what can I say here... :() >> Crash To Desktop (in the middle of the flight without apparent reason... :()>>> Sluggish performance (I mean come on, I got a killer machine here and with FSX I feel like I have a 8bit Commodore... :()>> >> Outdated graphics (PMDG and other developers are doing their best to create things that look nice, however a recent try of the "Wings of Prey" game made me think they waste their time... B))Over and over again to make FSX work I need to format my Hard Drive and reinstall everything starting from scratch...And here I am, watching this:

.....few hours later I was purchasing X-Plane over the internet... I decided to give FSX a long, long (maybe forever) rest. I know our beloved flight simulator has many advantages but they become outweighed by all the crap which this game gives me. Here are two questions for PMDG:1. How about making a step into X-plane world (from the video above we see this simulator has great potential....)???2. How about joining hands with other developers and creating a new Flight Simulator (11)???Please let us know what would be your position on the above...Thank you

And by the way here is one more:

Recommend watching in HQ.... PMDG please excuse me in advance - I am trying to make the point why do we need New/Another Flight Sim......

If you search this forum Robert R. in fact did comment on X-Plane as a potential future platform. Your (#2) is easy - I even believe they also had commented on developing/participating(in) new flight simulation platform is way beyond their risk-reward threshold. And frankly I am glad - you can risk existence of otherwise successful business by undertaking ill conceived ventures.EDIT: I watched the video in HD. Is it very good? Yes it is. Does it match PMDG's J41' cockpit in terms of visual rendering? IMHO I don't think so.
...but from what i hear and understand its a better sim,.... handles aero dynamics better.
If you really investigate it closely, it is not exactly so, even PMDG did comment on it. A lot of stuff had been written on this very topic on these forums. The subject of X-Plane returns every so often as a boomerang, this all had been discussed before.

Yes, coretto... (I can see as well that there I am proclaiming the long life of FSX, just a few posts below)However with the more and more advanced add-ons installed I can see that the FSX is like an old horse whose days are counted...O.K., X-Plane is a different story, I still have to test it to be able to tell who is right and who wrong. But I know that within 1 to 2 years the hardware and software will be light years from what now FSX can cope with.I can't help but wonder who will be making the next big flight sim platform?... Today picture is that all 3-rd party developers have area of specialisation and that is why they are good about it (e.g. PMDG makes planes, HiFi works weather engine, FTX makes the amazing scenery etc...). Would you agree that an eventual joinventure for the new Flight Sim will deliver much better product?...

I think you are selling the CRJ in the video short, it is a masterpiece.

X-Plane - No Thanks. If orbx and rex make the move with PMDG (if they do) ill move, but for now. FSX.

Another Jetstream/CRJ comparison.PMDG have already made it clear that X Plane is not for them. So there's no need to do a comparison as, apparently, FSX allows more flexibility.Goran

Well guys, no one is selling or comparing here... The point was - whether PMDG should consider X-Plane for the future. Apparently X-plane platform is constantly updated and more features are implemented.Anyway, it looks like PMDG does not have such interest. However the second question remains - whether PMDG is capable (and willing) to work in team with other developers for a future simulator platform?...

I can only happily say that Aerosoft will be releasing obviously not this year their own Flight Simulator. I've checked out some screenshots of their partially developed MD-8X series, one word: STUNNING. :( James W.
