ASE what's improved over ASA?

Featured Replies

So... surprise, surprise, there is a new version of the program out, which I had heard nothing about. I had shelved ASA, in favour of AS6.5, until the quirks had been ironed out (most notably my aircraft falling like rocks out of the sky). So I installed ASE with my key from ASA, start up a flight from Sydney to Bangkok in a PSS 777-300ER. About two hours in my plane drops from the sky.The interface is now red, but everything else seems the same. It occurred to me that about 75% of the problems I have, I cause myself (usually unknowingly), so I'm wondering if that's what's happening here. Are there any special install instructions for those who have AS6.5, ASA and ASE?- daniel

Gerald, Thanks!JET1, that all the winds will not be zero kts all the time.Nobleord, that is an outcome of DWC mode in FSX, it is not an issue that will ever be fixed using DWC, so you disable DWC Mode, control wind shifts through FSUIPC, and then RC will work correctly.
Jim if you disable DWC dont you loose visibility graduation and smoothing?

Jim,Thanks. Since I fly FS9 (at least for the time being), does this mean this will not even be an issue in FS9?

Icing?

I have all icing turned off, in both FSUIPC and ASE. It's most likely to be a temperature/pressure issue - it kills complex airliner simulations, so I've heard (and experienced, really). Good thought, though.- daniel

Nothing .......I fly mainly in Italy with FS9.ASE appear in the same blunders that I have in ASA.The clouds appear and disappear suddenly.ASV6.5 remains the best, IMHO.(Google translate)

Hi,For me with ASE/FS9 I have always pop up cloud like with ASA/FS9.....No change always the same bug.Christian
I agree with you. Perhaps ASA / ASE work only in USA.

@crash and nemo: Judging from your prior posts, I am guessing both of you are using FS9. If that is true, since you seem to be the only two people reporting that the TAT problem still exists in ASE (so far!) I am wondering if maybe the TAT issue is only fixed in FSX and not FS9. The root cause/solution identified by Lek in this thread: http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=270839 was a SimConnect/FSX problem, so I am thinking that maybe the FS9 problems are caused by something completely different. Just a thought...

Maybe, but I bought ASA for FS9 and I pretend that it works

Today I flew YSSY (Sydney) VTBS (Bangkok) in FS9, using the PMDG 747 with BA livery, and ASE. Online with VATSIM.Specs:Dell DXP051 X86-based PC x86 Family 15 Model 6 Stepping 4 GenuineIntel 2793 MhzTotal Physical Memory: 3.00 GBTotal Virtual Memory: 2.00 GBPage File Space: 5.84 GBMicrosoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 Build 2600NVidia GeForce 7900 GXT, driver 6.14.11.7824Creative SB X-Fi sound card, driver 6.0.1.1361FS9, SP 1ASEAt first, all went well. Then, when Iwas about 150 nm north-west of Darwin, all hell broke loose. Basically, I was showing an AS 0f about 300 kts and was in an irreversible descent. I disconnected AP and AT and wrestled back control, though not without flying a few miles upside down. I leveled at Fl 240 indicated at a speed of 160 kts indicated.I then closed ASE, went to World -> weather-> Clear all. Problem solved.I rearmed VNAV and gently climbed back to cruise at FL 380 without mishap.I flew another 100 nm or so.I then reengaged ASE, with AT and AP engaged, LNAV and VNAV.Before the brown stuff hit the fan, I just had time to register: OVERSPEED! and an indicated alt of ... wait for this... 58000 feet. (As in: Fifty-Eight Thousand feet). And I wasn't even flying the Virgin space trip livery! Once again: Overspeed, irreversible descent, cut ASE, restore Weather -> Clear all.Now this is all good fun, and I must confess I haven't tried it out in FSX, but I don't think the developers can actually claim a result just quite yet :( I hope this will help somebody, somewhere. I'm off to nail the Shiraz.John

I use DWC and RC4 - the only issue was slow response time - which i solved by running ASA and RC4 on different cores, and wrong wx... but what the hell I need RC4 Wx since i have this weather tool with me where I see destination current conditions, and know which RWY to expect long before I close to approach? Perfect simulation of acars for me :)

All,I cannot and will not troubleshoot in a thread that has become so disjointed. I will go through and answer some questions since yesterday. If you feel you are having a specific issue, please start a new thread for each user, not for each issue.Blueridgeflier, that is correct. Our first choice is to have DWC On.Nobelord, that is correct. The TAT/negative cloud height issue was worked on for both FS9 mode and FSX mode and also for world wide fliers, not just USA fliers. And this will end my 17,000th AVSIM post!!
