Question About ASE

Featured Replies

Can I remove ASA and ASv6.5 and do a complete install of ASE? I'd like to know if this would help any possible problems I might be having with ASE. Where might I find the full version of ASE? I assume if this will work, I can plug my ASA key in after install and it'll work, even with ASA and AS6.5 uninstalled?FWIW, I still had the cloud popping issue on a flight from TNCM to TNCC last night. My high-level cumulus clouds were finally gone and other things seemed better, but since some are reporting no cloud popping, I'd like to try a full install without ASA or prior versions. Thanks

Thanks Jim! I'll give it a try.

Jim, is there any real advantage (or is it only a perceived advantage) to installing a totally new ASE package instead of installing upgrade on top of upgrade? Right now, if I do a reinstall I've got to install AS6.5, then the ASA upgrade, and finally the ASE upgrade. While this takes a few minutes (I don't bother with doing any settings tweaks to the intermediate installs) it is obviously more of a job than doing a direct install of the ASE stand alone package. I've been flying the ASE upgrade and things are working well.

I'd appreciate an answer to that question too. Thanks.

Well all I know is I had the upgrade install done and then uninstalled everything and went for the full because some say it cures the cloud popping and now I can't get ASE to update my wxr anymore...I checked the ASE log and saw a permission error I fixed but no matter what I do I can get ASE to update FS9...It clears and winds seem to update via shft-Z but the temperature never updates... Starting to regret the full install...Just my .02,-Paul

My ASE install (the multi-part install mentioned above) seems to have cured the cloud popping. I had asked the question out of somewhat idle curiosity, I think I'll stay with what I've got running now. It ain't broke, I ain't gonna fix it.

Hi All,First, if you have a vadid ASA/ASE key, you do not need to do any sort of install sequence. Install ASE Full and register it using that key.Second, at this point I can't say if there is an advantage or not. See, the last thing we tested was the Full ASE package from download to install to operation. So that meant that I had no sign of ASA on my computer. I do know that I saved a bit of HD becuase ASA is no longer installed, but other than that I don't know.Paul, how much time are you giving things?

Hey Jim, Sorry to be a forum hog... :( I created another post with more details opposed to hijacking this thread. To answer your question, until ASE says that depiction is complete... And then an extra minute to be sure...The other thread and my email have logs.Sorry again for duplicate posts! Thanks as always,-Paul

Hi,I have done a full install of ASE but I have still the cloud popping....so it's not a solution and this bug is still here.Christian

Thanks Jim. The next time I have to do a reinstall I might try doing the stand alone ASE install just for funzies. Like I said earlier, my upgrade install seems to be working well, I'm not going to tamper with it.

Unfortunately this is true, before I had disappointed me.Sorry

I think for now I'll stick with the ASE upgrade from ASA. OK there's a bit of cloud popping, but everything else works fine and it does look fantastic :-)

I agree, I haven't had ASA installed on this machine (only AS6.5, haven't used ASA much...), so ASE was installed as a full fresh install. I did one flight with default settings (only changed non weather related settings such as voice ATIS and whatnot) from KLGA and KIAD and on multiple occasions the weather changed in front of my eyes. I was looking at beautiful weather one second, I blinked, poof...Seems like I need to continue using 6.5 for a little while longer.:(

Mike...

Yes I still get a bit of cloud popping but, really, isn't it inevitable? After all, the weather is updating every so often depending on your setting and, surely, when it does the cloud depiction is almost certain to change?I haven't timed this exactly but the popping I get is at a frequency that could easily tie in with updating.Iain Smith
