How can I shoot videos in FS9?

Featured Replies

I see all those wonderful videos that people shoot in FS9.How do I do that? Which tool do I need to install? Is it doable to at the same time fly the plane and "lead the camera" (I could imagine that the angle I want to shoot is not the angle of view that I require to fly the plane)? How can I edit and cut videos, e.g. to make a 5 minute video out of a 12 hour flight? Thanks

Typically, you would go up to the options menu in FS and choose 'replay', then use FRAPS (a payware screenshot and video capture program) to record what you see as a video file, then you would use some video editing software to edit it down to size. Windows has built-in basic editing software in the form of 'Windows Movie Maker', which is a simple timeline based video editor that will also allow you to add sounds and music.More sophisticated video editing software, such as Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere (both quite expensive), will allow you to add CGI effects to stuff, as indeed will Adobe Photoshop if you know what you are doing, for example, in this clip, I am 'firing' a Kalashnikov, but in fact that gun is plastic, and the flashes, sounds, and ejecting shells were all added by me in Adobe After Effects.Video:

If you really know what you are doing, you can even put yourself in FS video, like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTmZXteZ420...mp;feature=fvwpAl

Looks like you're a beginner. Then I'd recommend 2 tools for you to try:1. FRAPS - for shooting2. WINDOW MOVIE MAKER - for editionFraps is payware, but it is very affordable plus it works for free with some small limitations.WMM is in your Windows by default.Good luck and have fun! :( EDIT: Al, you're damn fast!

+1 for FS recorder. It is far better than the FS built in recorder and is available for both FS9 & FSX

FS Recorder also lets you fiddle with the data files to create formations and other interesting things. Here's one I did from a single fly-by source file:
