KJFK performance help

Featured Replies

For my system specs see my gig, now on to the question. I enjoy flying the LevelD 767 in JFK and was wondering what results you get as far as performance and what special settings do you use to optimize performance there. Currently I am getting 13 - 15 fps on final and wonder if that is good or should I expect better. I use UT2 for my traffic and have it at 100% commercial and 25% GA, my scenery setting is at very dense and my autogen is at very dense. So what are you guys doing that fly into JFK and should I be happy with what I am getting there? Thanks in advance for your advise!JimEdit: I just did a KBOS-KJFK flight in the 767 and this time I set my traffic to 25% and the approach was MUUUUUUUCH better and I was able to maintain around 18 fps on final which I can live with in NYC. I guess my traffic was holding me back. I do love the traffic but I much prefer a better flight. Even though the FPS was not a huge gain the smoothness was greatly improved as I guess the CPU had more room as it wasnt having to calculate gobs of traffic behind the scene.

I hate to say it, but 13-15 with a complex aircraft on final to JFK isn't bad for FSX. I would recommend turning down either the AI or the autogen. I don't like to fly with 100% AI anyway, since it makes me wait to long on the taxiways (there are some kinds of realism I don't feel the need to simulate :(), and I find heavy autogen is not necessary for simulating heavy iron. Also, you can try turning down the watter from 2x to 1x - at the very least to 2x-low. That helps a bit, although I do hate to lose to 2x water.EDIT to your edit - try trading autogen for traffic.

I would recommend turning down either the AI or the autogen.
Also try turning off all cars (freeway traffic) - that can make a big difference.

I tried a test once for JFK. I left UT2 traffic at 100% airline and 0% g/a, turned off the cars, left autogen on Normal and set scenery complexity to Normal. The results, in the LDS 767 with bad weather, mostly cloudy and raining I got 27-35 FPS and didn't even seem like I was missing any scenery, except for a few of the jetways were gone. A few missing jetways I can live with to get 27 or more FPS into JFK with 100% airline traffic and bad weather. As a test I moved the scenery complexity slider back to full right,Extreamly Dense I think its called, and ledt the other settings as I mentioned and got between 18 - 24 FPS. The only real difference I saw was the jetways. It's funny though that JFK is pretty easy to tame on my rig. The only major airport in FSX that gives me fits is KDFW unless I put the scenery complexity slider at Normal. I dont know what is it about DFW but something is going on there that gets my rig.

Using the PMDG MD11 I get from 17 FPS up to 24 FPS, it fluctuates between 17 and 24 all the way in.I use MyTrafficX and both Airline and GA are set to 30%. Airport vehicle is set to minimum. All land and sea is set to zero.Mesh resolution is set to 10m, water effects are set to Low 2.x all other sliders on the scenery tab are maxed out.Global texture resolution is maxed out.Rod

Recommendation if you have not already done so, I would highly recommend you take a peek at the following advice from Nick:Follow Nick's "How to tune it right" at the following link.http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=29041My system is very similar to yours, also overclocked to 4.0, however, in all honesty it was pretty smooth at default settings.Nick also was a life saver to me on my overclocking procedure at the following link:http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=29041 This sure worked for me. I usually get slightly higher framerates than you mention, somewhere in the mid 20's at KJFK with a complex aircraft and ASE weather. At other times, the numbers may be higher, and I want swear that they don't go into the teens somewhere along the line. But as Nick advises, forget the numbers. If your performance is smooth and without problems, the numbers are academic. Just enjoy flying. For the purpose of this reply, I just moved my LDS 767, Delta Livery to Gate 069 and left it there for about 15 mins. under the present ASE weather conditions. (21.5, 26.4, 28.0) were my Min. Avg. Max. frame rates. I then taxied to Runway 4L for takeoff and let her sit there for a few mins. I got (22.7, 29.9, 33.4). I then flew at about 500 feet to the center of Manhattan, which for me usually is a lot more taxing than KJFK. I got (19.6, 24.2, 31.5). I really never catch the minimum and maximums that it detects. All I really see is dancing around between 24 or 25 to 26 or 27.Hope something helps here. Again, I would highly recommend that you take a look at Nick's advice if you have not done so yet.Respectfully:RTHAdder: My KJFK is the FSDreamteam contribution.
